yeah Josh Cellars was a sponsor with a few setups at the back of the other stage field. It was pretty fire I couldnt believe I was walking around caraffe in hand
What did that cost? I got a “glass” of wine from a bar which was about a 5 oz pour for 9.00. So I didn’t even try those installations even though Josh is solid for lower rung.
Armand Hammer - fire start. Played The Gods Must Be Crazy which isnt a sure thing. Good to see all of the highlights from a top 5 2023 album to kick things off.
Chappell Roan - The biggest moment set Roo has had since maybe Cardi B in 19? These songs were ringing off throughout the campgrounds all weekend leading up to the show. Felt like we were not at a crusty festival.
Yves - What a huge fucking win that last minute sched change was. Yves fucking destroyed. Heaven Surrounds was a huge highlight of the weekend. The band goes so hard that Yves only can ruin so much with sloppiness, but they were fine on the mic and the weirdo shit they did didnt hurt my enjoyment of the show thankfully.
Carly Rae Jepsen - Fantastic. Almost cried during Run Away with me which I thought was special but then I almost cried during Call Me Maybe and I realized it was probably the drugs lmao. I see people citing the weather delay as a set ruiner but I think it kinda added character.
Fred - So fucking fun. The way he built up Strong and let that fucker rip over the What Stage speakers. Leavemealone, stayinit… this is the type of shit Ive always wondered how great it would sound at that stage and it didnt dissapoint. Going ape shit with Jaz during the Moderat Frank mashup. Big group hugs all around for the last roo show ever.
Then we had our neighbors join us at the RV for a full chicken / beef / pork taco bar and just drank and jammed to parcels, chappell, roisin until 2:15am.
2016 sunday was actually pretty good with Cymande > Charles Bradley > Father John Misty > Death Cab > Ween > Dead and Co. but that day was very chill and pleasant where this one was very relevant and far more diverse.
2013 probably would have been better if I wasn’t a complete fucking idiot back then. Nothing else compares.
Writing this out makes me wonder if Jaz feels justified in the decision to come just for a day. I would guess yes?
last Roo show ever!? You fucker, I just met you for the first time

pretty sure I was in the 50s. Thats what Peyton told me but I didnt look just to be safe. All blended in to the overall weekend damage.

I’ve been saying I’m done with festivals for a good 15 years. Leave for Glastonbury Monday. Will be “done with festivals” by Sunday. Will have the itch again by January.

Are you one of those types to say you’ll never drink again during a bad hangover?

I’m curious about the thought process behind this too. I’ve been contemplating scaling back on fests and shows to focus on some more important goals that 3 exhausting/expensive weekends a year and countless weeknights out until 11 are kinda at odds with… but at this point live music is basically my entire personality so it’s hard to make that change.
Nice! I paid little attention to the drink offerings, as camping in Area 931 makes Centeroo BYOB.
Wait really? Is this an official thing or something that is kind of just tolerated?
They’ll certainly make sure you have the right wristband to get from Centeroo into Area 931. But going from 931 to Centeroo, they just wave you on through. At night, I usually came in with a beer in hand and some in my cargo shorts and/or Camelbak. I didn’t go last year, but my friends said it was the same way then as well. But no, it’s not official.
Edit: Also, the only time all weekend I had to empty the water from my Camelbak was re-entering Centeroo from Moon Colony after brunch.

I just got married in March. My wife has been kinda half heartedly tagging along for the last couple years. She has fun of course. It hogs a massive amount of pto in a crucial point of my sales season. We havent seen any of asia, nothing in europe outside of London and Ireland. I’d like to do more things that she will get very excited about before we have kids in a couple years.
I said it wasnt only Bonnaroo but I guess if theres a situation like iii points where I take 1 day, no flight, and it costs very little and wouldnt interfere with other opportunities… Id prob go. Thats not what Im getting at here.
The only reason I announced it was to add hype to Roo 24. And goddamnit it literally helped get Jim Watson to the farm with us.

The past 10 years I’ve sworn off big multi-genre multi-day camping festivals and in lieu replaced them with more carefully crafted tailored festivals with a smaller footprint and more my taste in what I listen to.
Sure, I’m missing out on the Dua Lipa’s and Billie Eilish‘s but there’s something to be said about immersing yourself in 3 days of Psych or Folk or weird or Jazz or metal or whatever.
Just because you give up Bonnaroo doesn’t mean you won’t see good festivals. With a hot take, you’ll see better ones and in a few occasions, how a festival should run.
