I saw Parcels summer '22 with some people in my roo crew and our immediate thought was this would be so fucking dope late night in a tent at Roo... they absolutely will be late night Sylvan Esso time from '23
Working on my clash finder now… the inevitable Parcels/ Ethel Cain late night conflict is going to break my heart.
parcels LN makes sense to me since that live record is so dancey, but what makes you so confident ethel cain will be LN? i like what i've heard from her but doesn't feel like a late night shoe-in.
would be very surprised if she was anything other than 2 or 3 slots before the headliner in a tent.
yeah this lineup is gonna sell well.. think we're also understating the appeal of Post Malone as a headliner as well.. the youths will be out in full force.. im expecting similar crowd to last year
I wasn't there last year, but I would guess this lineup draws a much younger crowd than last year's. There's no Foo Fighters/Pixies/Sheryl Crow to really attract the olds this year. Just peppas.

As a side note, looking back at last year's lineup, I was reminded that Umphrey's played. Here is a buddy of mine doing his best Michael McDonald impression with Umphrey's on NYE.

listening to PL live from the caverns while i work and suddenly laughed at a post i remembered from the headliner thread, somebody said "when did pretty lights become a soft jazz act". sorry i can't remember who said it.
The clashfinders have already given me so many conflicts. Gonna start working through albums. Rolling Golden Holy by Bonny Light Horseman was yesterday and it was great! Reminded me a lot of big thief’s songwriting and harmonies.
If anyone hasn’t listened yet - “Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” by Chappelle Roan has been huge on my college campus. If you liked Muna or Rina Sawayama last year I highly recommend it. Camp Pop turned to 100 and it’s very very good. Her and CRJ are gonna be great on Sunday.

Listen to her song “Ptolemaea” I get big late night vibes. Anyone remember LN Clairo in ‘19?

first, this Country Roads remix is sick. but second, there is a moment during this song when they put the camera on the rail riders, and some of them are singing country roads, some of them are dancing, and then there is just this one guy recording it with his phone and laughing. because it's funny, right? pretty lights covering john denver? it's awesome and cool and funny all at the same time. and IMO that's when live music is at it's best, when it makes you wanna move but also wanna cry a little but also want to laugh because isn't all of this ridiculous? weaving between all those feelings is where joy lives for me.
Sure I made a lot of mistakes, def wasn't sure how to plan out Thursday!
I say this with full disrespect please never make another clashfinder. Geese+Roisin, Eggy+Nation of Language, GWAR+Neal, Isoxo+JRAD+Thundercat+Khruangbin, Sean Paul+CtE+Parcels, Joey+Megan this is offensively bad

Yes, Bonnaroo is known to have zero conflicts
what if this year its just one stage and all of them are late night? you don't know what could happen bonnaroo can change.
I'll definitely go if my group does but I could honestly take it or leave it and do something else that doesn't require a 1300 mile roundtrip and all the associated hassle. Maybe it's time to check out another big festival instead, like All Good, Mountain Jam, or maybe Wakarusa or Firefly.
This has to be a bit, ofc you go 4/4 on mentioning failed festivals. Too bad there's no Bonnaroo East coast.
Yeah, kidding on those defunct festivals, but they illustrate my point that finding anything similar to Roo is difficult, at best. Coachella is not an option due to the distance. I'd love to do Lollapalooza but finding anywhere close enough to stay = $$$$. I wish we could do something in Ohio, given that its a fairly populous state to start with, there could be plenty of venue options near major highways, and it could be a sub 8 hour drive for people as far away as Chicago, Wolverineland, PA, much of NY, Louisville, DC & Baltimore, etc.
I'd honestly consider an alternative to my beloved Bonnaroo but there's nothing comparable within a similar radius. We'd want a multi-day fest with camping and a diverse lineup. Last year's group seems happy enough with the lineup to go this year though, I guess. I'll have fun no matter what, so I'm in as long as I can find someone to keep my business running for a week, which is likely but not a sure thing.

I heard that the schedule this year is going to be released in form of parody karaoke. Brad Steiner and Lord Taco will perform "I can Change" by LCD Soundsystem with replacement lyrics indicating artists and stages. Only problem is they still think Goose is booked instead of Geese.

Got me literally tearing up just reading your caption haven't even watched the video yet

One of my goals in life is to buy a large property about 100 miles outside of Charleston, SC and build a festival venue on it for an event that is similar to Bonnaroo. Except when Live Nation comes knocking to try and buy it from me, I'm going to tell them to go fuck themselves.
It's going to be independently owned, operated, and booked to its core. This will also include telling greedy agents who want $10k for a band that can't even fill a 500 cap room on their own simply because you use the word Festival, to fuck themselves.
I think in today's landscape, there is demand for independently owned music industry ventures. Live Nation is one of the top 5 biggest piece of shit companies on earth, and its a secret to nobody, even the people who work with them and for them.
Does anyone else struggle with talk-singing style of bands like Geese, BCNR, and Black Midi? I love all of their instrumentation and enjoy the way they're able to create soundscapes/concepts, but most of the rambling talk over music style vocals just turns me off. Am I missing something about the appeal of this style?

It's the same for me with Idles. I like what they're doing instrumentally but if I'm listening to punk I want singing or screaming. Not King Krule with strep throat
