From the Press Release on the Gold Diggers thing. Sounds like a Sonora Tent situation which might be really cool.
New this year, Los Angeles venue, recording studio and hotel Gold Diggers will curate a tent featuring acclaimed Chicago-based jazz drummer, composer and producer, Makaya Mccraven, Tortoise’s Jeff Parker, musician and skateboarding icon Tommy Guerrero, acclaimed British singer Carina Round (Tears for Fears, Puscifer), and more; and Los Angeles-based label and promoter Jazz Is Dead will showcase their artists including Ebo Taylor + Pat Thomas, and co-founder Adrian Younge.
Do people care that Power Trip kept going with a new lead singer?
There was some mild controversy. Riley Gale's parents were mad about how it went down. My gut reaction is I don't really care to see them with a new singer, but that could easily change with new music. Kinda weird to see them land billings like this without Riley, but can't blame the other dudes for wanting to keep it alive.
We'll see I guess. Either way lets see how much blowback they get today with the presale just destroying wallets if you wanna camp. Crazy that its so much cheaper to book a hotel and get a 20 min uber every day than staying 100 feet from the festival entrance.

the new singer is great. they're absolutely worth watching if you're a fan. the spirit of the band felt alive and well seeing them last month.

I sent this email to Desert Daze this morning. But figured I'd post it here as well. To Whom It May Concern, I have been a longtime Desert Daze supporter, and it pains me to say that this music festival has officially lost its way regarding its ethos around art, accessibility, and love. My group of friends has made Desert Daze an annual tradition and reunion. We have shared so many incredible moments at the lake, and were beyond excited to see the festival back up and running this year. However, over half of my friends cannot afford the new price to attend, and those of us that can afford to go are quickly considering boycotting the festival due to manipulative advertising and tactics. As a primary example, here is an image from your website I captured today, 7/24/2024. To quote ~"From $338.77, the price you'll pay, no surprises later."~ preview.redd.it/1ow1mbxnaied1.png?width=1887&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5a98c0014ac47ec7573143084b7375997297c59 No surprises later, you say...? Surprise #1: Tier 1 was sold out seconds after logging on after 10:00 am PST. Surprise #2: Tier 2 was priced at $469 on your website, while in reality it cost $531 at checkout. Surprise #3: Car camping was priced at $275 on your website, while in reality it cost $311 at checkout. Surprise #4: The grassroots festival I've supported for all these years turns out to only care about gouging its attendees just like Coachella. I understand that Desert Daze needs to turn a profit, and that the cancellation last year was likely a large financial hit. But lying to the fans? False advertising? Compromising the very ethos that made the festival special? Betraying loyal attendees after all these years? What a shame. I hope you figure out a way to make this right. As a business and for-profit entity, I suppose you don't owe us anything. But from a human-to-human perspective: I know, and you know, that this isn't right. Congratulations: your festival will now be solely attended by the wealthy elite of LA, while less fortunate musicians and creatives that once dreamed of performing at Desert Daze can no longer even afford to attend. I hope it was worth it.
Yeah this has always been an expensive fest. Doubt you can find a 3-day festival in California where ticket + lodging will be less than $500 anymore.
Thats why the single day stuff has been much better for people, especially in California. I mean even Portola and CRSSD being 2 days push those limits.
I dont know why their core audience doesnt understand that theyre still keeping this event small and intimate so shits expensive. We had this discussion for Primavera LA and that was undersold for sure. If youre trading off appealing to the general masses and being pretty niche then its gonna cost you a pretty penny nowadays. I cant imagine how much a current version of All Tomorrows Parties would cost. But they finally got fucked over by the economics and that was 10 years ago.
I think it will be Moon, Block, Tent, Gold Diggers.
The lineup poster still references the sanctuary next to the gold diggers artists so I take it that's still a stage?
I would think moon, block, sanctuary, and tent (gold diggers based on the press release).
Certainly possible. But the way the sanctuary is listed on the poster (Christopher Cichocki curating it, few artists) makes me think it’s going back to how it was in 2018 and 2019, when it was just a small dome with projections inside and mostly small noise/ambient artists in there. I think The Tent will be what The Beach was in 2022 and what The Theater was in ‘18/‘19, just a 3rd stage. Gold Diggers stage seems like its own new thing.

This is also how it was advertised in 2022 but a bunch more stuff was programmed there - Charlotte + Bolis, L’eclair, Gum (dj set), and W.I.T.C.H. for example. This is also where the talks were held. I can’t imagine them going back to the dome and cutting their audience off like that. I feel like OAKK is gonna have a similar crowd to Nosaj Thing. My moneys on Sanctuary staying the same and the fest adding a fourth stage somewhere, specifically cause a tent isn’t gonna work on that hill.

That L'eclair set was probably one of my favorite of the weekend. I would love to see em back soon.
Looking at the DD FAQs under the What's new for 2024, the first bullet says "the tent stage returns (on grass!)". Trying to think where this would fit and what gets moved around. I too think subbing it on that hill would be a bit difficult.
The Tent was on the grass in 2018. It was super ideal except it wasn't parallel from the phases of the sun so at some parts of the day the Sunlight would get in if I remember correctly. Also they needed a zig zag of bike racks to stagnate the line to get in so it doesn't seems like your waiting in line too long. Someone told me the reason they even moved it was supposedly someone complained about getting bitten by ants which is ridiculous how can that be true. They got rid of the capacity issues by opening the tent where you could walk up on either side and it doesn't touch the ground.Yet I hated it because then there's more light into the tent and daytime visuals are near impossible with the 30,0000 lumen projector. On top of it they had the TV wall again near the tent which I really don't those things for x amount of reasons.

Phil said theyve wanted Osees but timing has been the issue.
Later artists add ons seem possible and maybe even Queens? ( i think thats really gonna be a health thing myself )
You can change your camping arrangements to a bundle if you bought in 2 or 4 before the bundle came up with the discount. Email ticketing@desertdaze.org and let em know whats up.
Floating Points hybrid set.
Theyre attempting to have a stage on the water or just a performance on it?
They plan on staying at Lake Perris for the time being.

This is probably only if you purchased last week and doesn't apply to early bird, huh? I guess early bird bundles weren't terrible so guessing not.
