Technically not in the collection but since it will be on the channel in September (and because I checked my OP and I never stipulated it must be an official Collection spine and that it only must be easily accessible to rent or stream) I will gladly allow it. Also been meaning to see more Argento so this will be a good start. I also recall reddit being very enthusiastic over this upcoming giallo collection.

I could do October 9 or I could do a date in November. I'd kinda prefer the latter, since my movie is up now. Other people can get their second shots in.

Watched the 2 giallos on Criterion's September list that I'd never seen. It's a good list to get an overview of the genre. Gives people a good idea of how varied the movies can be in terms of style and substance. So funny that Strip Nude for Your Killer is on there(I wouldn't start with this one. I know that much.)
Will rewatch Tenebrae here shortly. Was listening to the score today. So fucking good.
I thought Tenebrae was a lot of fun. Bumping synth soundtrack. Some cool kills. Mystery was pretty intriguing but I did think the "twist" reveal in the end was a bit of an eyeroll.
Would like to explore more in this Giallo collection. Any recs?

I would probably go
Bava's The Evil Eye (which is really the first film in the genre) Fulci's Don't Torture a Duckling Argento's Deep Red (might be the best film in the genre)
those three directors are sort of the three-headed Mount Rushmore of the genre, but they also have pretty different approaches (i'm least familiar with Fulci, though)

It had been a good while since I'd seen Tenebrae so it was interesting going back to what some say is the end of the sub-genre after the ups and downs of watching tons of these movies. This is Argento's New Nightmare. That more than Scream because it's more concerned what meaning can we take from these types of movies over genre tropes, etc. Although it is pretty self-referential of his previous gallos. And Argento is concerned with the critics that called him psychotic and violent which is why the second half ends the way it does.
Fun movie. Argento coming back to prove he's the king after going off to make strait horror for a bit. His roving camerawork is a breath of fresh air after some of the stuff I've been watching.

Coke's list is good place to start. I prefer A Lizard in a Woman's Skin for Fulci but "...Duckling" is wild.
Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (Sergio Martino is another director with several great contributions. Several on the Criterion list) The Red Queen Kills Seven Times (Fun gothic twist on the subgenre. Not the greatest but an entertaining example of all the directions they took these movies.) Short Night of Glass Dolls (Trippy political thriller that's really fucking out there. Has one of my favorite horror tropes.)
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I finally watched this a few years back and it blew my mind. It's dark but the filmmaking and lead performance are next level. Definitely a film you need to see if you're into world cinema.
