Jerry Rice is definitely on the shortlist of best football players but Brady is in a tier by himself. Obviously it's impossible to compare Brady to someone dominant in a different era like Jim Brown, but I have no reservations ranking Brady higher.
Brady taking a sub .500 Bucs team to his 7th ring is still difficult to process.
I just think saying we need to eliminate people because there is someone better than them at their sport is not the right move.
Jerry Rice should not be getting votes at this point, he has one of the most impressive careers of any athlete ever and is the gold standard for his role in his sport.

I agree with you but after the brad man and skate boarder dude go it will be time to start talking about Jerry.
"The Top 100: NFL's Greatest Players was a ten-part television series that set out to determine the top 100 greatest NFL players of all time. It was presented by the NFL Network in 2010. The series was based on a list of the top 100 National Football League players of all time, as compiled by a "blue-ribbon" panel assembled by the NFL Network. The members of the panel were current and former NFL coaches, players, executives, and members of the media.
Jerry Rice was chosen as the top player of all time."
more fuel to the fire that gocats was wrong and Jerry has sort of always been considered one of the goat football players ever. of course 2010 is pre Brady taking the crown but as I shared earlier as of '24 people still consider Jerry to be very much in the conversation
It should also be noted that Jerry and Brady are basically not playing the same sport. Positions in football are so different.
That’s a strange talking point. They’re not doing the same thing or playing the same position but they absolutely are playing the same sport. It’s called football if you weren’t aware. Haha
A "which of these athletes is the GOAT?" poll necessarily operates on the base assumption that every poll option is an athlete
If you don't think so, that is on you.
And I have no fucking clue why you keep bringing up Trump, this isn't the Politics Thread.
You’re incorrect. In Profanity Survivor, there was quite a bit of debate over whether words like bloody and tits are actually profanities. That’s part of the fun. It doesn’t really sound like you’re having fun with this.
I mentioned Trump twice because I thought it was funny. I also mentioned John Daly and my dad and his buddies, who are also old and out of shape and golf a lot.

We're out here playing Jeopardy and you've brought a Clue board

massive cop out tho. they obvi are playing the same sport and in that sport one position is insanely more valuable than the others. Jared Goff who is pretty mid makes $22M more a year than any WR

Oh are they actually playing the same sport?
The point is that they are doing such different things that it's worth thinking of them differently. The same way I think a goat pitcher and goat batter could have made the list. And of course on this topic, it makes less sense to include both Jordan and LeBron though I still think both should have.
With that said, the argument about how valuable a WR is to the team is very relevant and I will eventually use it to vote Jerry out. Going further along that path, Adam V is rightfully not on the list. But Jerry is widely considered the best player to physically bring the ball up and down the football field (wr / rb / te). He's the best player ever in a position that requires raw athleticism. That matters enough for consideration. QB is the most important, but the NFL contains the most impressive athletes in any sport in my opinion, and to not have even one of those represented would have been a mistake.
