LD and I bought went into this in the OK thread, but CT is pretty great. Obviously biased here. I like the "pit stop" (or whatever word was used) idea of the state. Living in the middle, in about an hour or less in any direction, you can be in any other state (NY, RI, MA)/Long Island Sound. Within 2 hours, you can be in NYC, Boston, Providence, Albany, good beaches, big ski mountains and great beaches (smaller mountains and beaches in state). I would never, ever live in New York, but I like having it as an easy option to visit. Everything is nearby and accessible, and yet there is tons to do close by, too.
We have plenty of towns and buildings many 100s years old and all the things that come with it. Yes, there's the best pizza and good seafood, but it's also pretty diverse and I can get good <insert almost any cuisine here> easily. Oldest continuously operated public art museum and oldest continuously operated newspaper. Many of the public school systems are top notch and there are tons of colleges and universities for such a small state. #UConnHuskies. Very blue. 2nd to legalize same same marriage. I think we were tied for 16th with the legalization of rec weed (not the best, but certainly could be worst). No worries that I'll lose the right to an abortion if I needed it. 4 distinct seasons and a good foliage season.
The bad: It's expensive here. Summers are humid despite being north
In short, putting CT at 14 or lower is crazy. No, I don't think that CT is better than some of those in the middle, but there are way too many states left that need to be near the bottom.
I will not move my vote until Skull and Bones gives back Geronimo's skull.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I really think the only negatives on CT are the cost and the northern half of the state being kind of blah. There is a lot of old money in the southwest quadrant of the state but 1%ers don't seem to get held against other states in the voting.
I wouldn't even say all northern half. Northwest is Litchfield County and as LD alluded to in the other thread, it's all very Gilmore Girls Stars Hollow with cute town greens, celebrities who want quiet lives... North central is not the greatest, but it does have some saving graces like UConn's main campus, Northeastern section... well, for LD's sake, I'll keep my mouth shut
Because we're so small, the bad parts are so small too. We're talking about an easily countable number of towns.

Oh for sure. I was bejng diplomatic. I like CT. My point was more even the most out of the way parts of CT are blah at worst. And that's the worst of the state.
Whereas there are large wasteland sections of some of these other states that I would personally consider unliveable.
Gotcha snoke. And agreed. Around here, even if you're in a blah area, you're still really close to bigger towns and the aforementioned amazing places. You can still be in Boston in an hour from the northwest corner.

never been but i'm gonna go #2 just because why the hell not, someone's gotta shake something up
Thanks for sharing about your #2. Where are you going to rank Connecticut?
i think we should all take pictures of our #2s and PM them to T3ddy F1a1r and the next survivor will be #2 survivor, he'll reveal who produced each #2 after it gets voted off.

Thanks for this. I now need to clean watermelon gazpacho off my desk and monitor.

But people need to live their truth.
Norwalk, Bridgeport, New Britain, Bristol, Hartford, Waterbury, etc. are not really "out of the way" cities, yet places I would not like to live in.
edit: Out of the states currently ahead of CT, it's probably only better than Ohio. #14 feels right to me.

Bridgeport was the one that came to mind, but definitely still better than the worst of the worst in California.
If we are going to look at the worst of the worst in places like Georgia or Texas or Florida... yikes.

And that's where it just depends on how people are rating these. You can either look at the tippy top upside or how small the downside is.
It doesn't really bother me either way but it's totally subjective.
Sure, absolutely subjective. I've been rating these mostly based off natural beauty (and access to it), weather, the people, food, cities I like or dislike and my personal experience in each state.

When I was a child my grandparents lived in Connecticut. They had a long driveway on a hill that ended at a road. We'd ride our three-wheelers down the driveway. It was amazing. Oh and there's was a pond and peach trees that we'd go and pick.
My memories put Connecticut high, but it snows and gets super cold, so I'm torn.

There are plenty of states still on the list that are colder and snowier. Plus with climate change, there is substantial changes in snow in short periods of time. Our snow totals are way less than what they used to me.

Climate change is taking care of that last problem for you.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
