Rhode Island is a tiny state. Despite its small size, there's a lot going on here. Or close by here.
Food scene is fantastic. Ask anyone who's been to Federal Hill in Providence. Best Italian food in the country. Great seafood too. Every year at Quack Club, we go up the Hill one night and they get like 7 orders of fried calamari.
Beaches are some of the best in the north. People who like the arts, there's a bunch of cool shit for that up here. Newport is great to spend a few days, between the mansions and the festivals.
The Talking Heads got started in Providence. Deer Tick is always worth a listen. There's a bunch of noise and experimental music coming from here too. Not sure if Kristin Hayter is still floating around here.
From Providence, it's an hour to Boston and 3 to NYC. We have trains that go to both multiple times a day.
I've lived here for nine years now. It's a pretty nice place. It's not perfect, but it's home. And I encourage everyone to come up here and visit sometime.
I just really hope the other state left isn't Massachusetts or Colorado.
have a feeling the last one is something truly heinous so i’m voting #2. RI isnt even top 3 for New England states imo but it’s still pretty fun and has its perks. Good restaurants, bars, lgbtq nightlife, venues kinda suck but they at least get national touring acts, nitro bar & plant city

I'm not willing to take this risk. I'm going 16.
Same. It wouldn't be as funny if this doesn't get fucked up regardless of how cool RI might be. Alternatively I'm hoping for Kansas or Alabama to fall into that sweet #2 spot.

lets do some math, here are the staets who have won so far:
#1: California #2: #3: Minnesota #4: Wisconsin #5: Maine #6: Hawaii #7: Georgia #8: Florida #9: Oregon #10: Vermont #11: Texas #12: North Carolina #13: Ohio #14: Connecticut #15: South Dakota #16: #17: Iowa #18: Arkansas #19: Oklahoma #20: Mississippi
teddy already told us that new york, wisconsin, and cuba aren't on the list. since there are only 50 states that leaves 23 possible states remaining. by process of elimination we can see whats left:
#1 arkansas #2 north carolina #3 alabama #4 puerto rico $5 footlong #6 japan #7 taco bell #8 the common cold #10 the elder scrolls part V skyrim #11 london #12 n. carolina #14 very small rocks #15 indie #16 new jersey #17 las vegas #18 superjam #19 rusted root #20 chips and salsa #21 hamburger vs. hot dog #22 nicholas hoult #23 south carolina
i'm not here to tell you how to vote, just provide information. any of the above could be the final state revealed. i'm personally going with rhode island at #16.

Rusted Root is an obvious #2. Its variety of cultural influences makes it feel like it could be a state nearly anywhere in the world, but it's just Rusted Root right here in the good ol' US of A. Also, Rusted Root is affordable, and it was never colonized. The only knock against it is there's no In-N-Out Burger.

i agree with all of this, i just really really wish rusted root had an in-and-out burger. if it could drive into rusted root and pickup a double double it would be my #1 state in the world.

I was in Providence last week, and it was pretty cool. We had some very good meals, and I visited the RISD museum and took a nice walk down the river walk. I’d visit again if the chance arose.

Debated on saying this in response to your FB comment the other day, but I wasn’t sure how to word it, and then I just ended up not. I’m not sure I specifically realized you were around Providence, but I also didn’t really reach out to see if anyone from here was interested in hanging out because only one other person from my court was at the conference with me, so it seemed like I should do dinners and such with her because I didn’t want to leave her on her own.

Gotta go with 16, nothing against Rhode Island but it's not good enough to lock into that #2 spot. Rather roll the dice and hope we get something better.
It’s not too late yet to reassess what you want at 2 or 16. Below is a list of the remaining states plus DC and also New York and Washington state which are not in. My opinion if a state or the capital is more worth a 2 or 16. It only matters for survivor hall of fame history since California will go into survivor survivor. In no way am I suggesting states getting a 16 are all bad or have no redeeming qualities. Grand Canyon is in AZ and Tahoe is partly in Nevada. Etc. Rhode Island is better than most of these states.
Arizona - 16 Alabama - 16 Colorado - 2 Alaska - 2 Indiana - 16 Nebraska - 16 Idaho - 16 Illinois - 2 or 16 Kansas - 16 Kentucky. - 16 (but Bourbon) Louisiana - 16 Michigan - 16 Missouri -16 Montana - 16 Nebraska - 16 Nevada - 16 New Hampshire - 16 New Jersey - 16 New Mexico - 16 *New York* - NA North Dakota - 16 Massachusetts - 2 Pennsylvania - 2 or 16 South Carolina - 16 Tennessee - 16 Utah - 16 Virginia - 16 *Washington* - NA Washington D.C. - 16 West Virginia - 16 Wyoming - 16
Tennessee and Kentucky are mid, dragged down by atrocious politics
Wild take: Alaska is basically Maine on steroids
Apparently you can fit 19 Maines into Alaska. They have a lot of weirdos that live there - maybe second to Idaho. But it could be its own country or continent. Islands stretch almost to the date line. Sarah Palin can see Russia from her backyard (haha). Untold resources and potential riches for generations in future centuries and millennia. Most of it is untouched and mostly unseen except by planes and drones. Some people probably eat whales there which means it can’t be top 1. And emptiness eagles and snow and polar bears which are majestic though shitty animals doing their jobs.
We are children of this state and among the top few [tm] posters on this site. It’s not a good state overall but it has its pieces parts and uniqueness. Regardless, New Orleans should go back to Spain, France or secede from the fanatics and haters and become a city-state.
