Anything but c-stores and groceries. Wally’s got to be in this. Target as well. Maybe Penny’s, Dillards, Kohls, Sears if they still have that, Macy Gray’s, Gap, Banana Republic, Apple Store, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot - any of that shit. Think of any non grocery anchor tenant in a large strip mall or any of your favorite retailers in an actual mall. Could even have a return of Sbarro or Build A Bear.
I love TJ Maxx. Ross has gone downhill but used to be great. Thrift Stores (red, white & blue or the rich people Goodwill in Kenner) are where it's at for clothing.

I was trying to think of that store in all the podunk bayou strip malls, and yeah it was Ross. I'm not sure I've ever been in one. I frequently donate clothing to Goodwill and Bridge House and all, but I don't shop there for clothing. I was always more of a Dillards guy (excluding their Tommy Bahama shit) for dress clothes and then just whatever for leisure stuff (sports teams, concert/festival t-shirts, etc.).
However, there's no way TJ Maxx should be above the mid-teens as far as a retailer. It's better than a Wal-Mart or some shit like Dirt Cheap, but it's not really anything but a discounter. They sell knock-off merchandise, cancelled orders and close-outs from other department stores, some of their own stuff and surplus.
As the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide, TJX delivers great value on ever-changing selections of high quality, fashionable, brand name and designer merchandise at prices generally 20%-60% below full-price retailers’ (including department, specialty, and major online retailers) regular prices, on comparable merchandise, every day.
Real Brands, Real Savings, Really
For us, value is a combination of brand, fashion, price, and quality. Unlike more traditional retailers, our retail chains generally don’t engage in promotional pricing activity like sales, coupons, or other gimmicks – just exciting merchandise at amazing prices, every single day!
We're Smart Shoppers, Just Like Our Customers
Our buyers are on the hunt throughout the year for the hottest brand name and designer merchandise for the entire family and home — from trendy tops and handbags, to bold ties and footwear, to gourmet cookware and furniture, to hiking gear and active wear.
We buy from all kinds of vendors: big brand names to boutique, designer labels, as well as up-and-coming labels and exciting gems from around the globe. We also have some merchandise manufactured for us to bring our customers exceptional fashion and quality at an amazing price. Our buyers choose many different colors, styles, fabrics, and materials so there are always lots of great choices.
Our buyers are opportunistic and entrepreneurial. When a designer or manufacturer overproduces or other stores overbuy, we swoop in, negotiate the best possible price, and pass the savings on.
Never The Same Selection Twice
Unlike other types of retailers that buy seasonally, we have new high quality, brand name, and designer merchandise arriving in our stores several times a week, with each delivery containing thousands of items. We encourage our customers to stop by often to see our latest finds, at spectacular savings. And our e-commerce sites – tjmaxx.comOpens new window, marshalls.comOpens new window, sierra.comOpens new window, tkmaxx.comOpens new window, tkmaxx.deOpens new window, and tkmaxx.atOpens new window – add new merchandise almost daily. Our rapidly changing assortments create that “treasure hunt” shopping experience that our customers truly enjoy.
We tell our customers, “If you love it, grab it!” We don’t hold replenishment stock in our back rooms and often, the store managers don’t even know what’s coming until they throw open the delivery truck doors. That’s what makes us so exciting to shop.
The amount we buy from each brand varies greatly – sometimes we buy a little and at other times, we may buy a lot. What matters is that we think our customers will love it!
No One Way We Buy
We take advantage of a wide variety of opportunities, which can include department store cancellations, a manufacturer making up too much product, or a closeout deal when a vendor wants to clear merchandise at the end of a season, as well as lots of other ways to bring our customers great value.
The majority of products we sell are high quality, fashionable, brand name, and designer merchandise generally sold at prices 20%-60% less than full-price retailers’ regular prices on comparable merchandise. Most of our merchandise is fashionable, current season styles. A small percentage is past season, or timeless classics, which we also offer at amazing savings.
Some of our merchandise is manufactured for us and some is designed by our own fashion experts, particularly when what we are seeing in the marketplace isn’t the right value for our customers, meaning the right combination of brand, fashion, price, and quality. For example, we work with artists in Poland to create beautiful blown glass, we source amazing cashmere and merino wool from Italy, we design soaps to be created in Australia. We are always seeking great quality and value all over the world!
Operating Our Stores For Amazing Savings
Our stores and online websites are as flexible as we are. We have no walls between departments, so we can easily expand and contract merchandise categories to respond to the newest trends, changing customers’ tastes, seasonal merchandise, or opportunistic buys.
We love our bright, modern stores, and our lean, no-frills way of working helps us pass amazing merchandise at fantastic prices on to our customers.
All of these factors allow us to offer you a desirable and rapidly changing mix of high quality merchandise, always at amazing values! So whatever our customers’ style – classic, understated, eclectic, outdoorsy, or super-trendy, we know that they will find something fun, individual, and special, every time they visit!
Having said that - We could have any number of Dollar Stores (General, 5 Below, Tree, etc.). Those are some of the worst retailers and places to shop IMHO. I guess if someone is looking for some Faygo or knock-off Doritos, those might be okay places to shop. But I'd vote them lower than TJ. So maybe TJ really should be around 14 or 15 and not lower?
I have a complicated relationship with Buc-ee’s. I absolutely hate it in there. It is always loud and there are so many people. Why are there so many people at a gas station in Calhoun, Georgia, at like 11 a.m. on any given day? But I will stop there every time because it’s just about halfway on my most-driven drive, and the bathrooms are always clean and plentiful. (I did have to wait in line for them once, but I think that was Christmas, and it moved fast because there are a million of them. I also got mooned on my most recent trip to Buc-ee’s, but hopefully, that was a one-off.) Also, the other option at that exit is a Love’s, and those assholes don’t warn you that they put a $175 hold on your credit card when you buy gas there.

Mooned from another car or someone in the bathroom?

It was me. I just got bored waiting in the brisket line. Sorry.

Someone in the bathroom. I guess she forgot to lock the door, but I still haven’t come up with a reasonable explanation for why she was bent over facing the toilet with her pants all the way down. I don’t think she was throwing up because she turned around and said “sorry” in a voice that was not the voice of a person who was in the middle of vomiting and she really wasn’t in a vomiting position. I really kind of think she did it on purpose because she wanted to make someone look at her butt.

Omg there is a Buc-Ee’s on the way to Bourbon & Beyond. Goona stop for a beef brisket and clean bathrooms. Hopefully I’ll get to see someone’s butt. NothingButFlowers
No butts. Pretty disappointed. The chopped beef brisket sandwich and oatmeal raisin cookie saved the day though.
What you got on the agenda? Y’all doing anything bourbon related early days? My personal favorite was Peerless tasting downtown but their bourbons and ryes are barrel proof.
