Nothing all that deep just feels like it’s pointless for me to vote where I live. My wife wants to vote so I might end up doing it but haven’t really been planning on it. I voted last time but what’s my motivation here?
Anderson County Trump 70.3% 67,565
Biden 28.3% 27,169
aren't there other things on your ballot besides president?
she had my vote when the switch happened and everything was pointing towards her pushing the party left, but she then immediately slingshotted back around and feels like just as much of a republican as biden did. she has made it clear her support for israel is unwavering, as has walz with his "committed to the expansion of israel" comment at the debate. of course i understand the lesser of two evils viewpoint, but what is happening is currently beyond evil, and i can't sign my name to it in good conscience.
that on top of absurd lack of messaging on any other left leaning issues that i care about outside of women's reproductive rights.absolutely nothing on gun restrictions, even after trump got shot at? nah she would rather brag about being a gun owner herself.
its been near 80 degrees in philly this week and its just about november, but she can't say a word about global warming or trying to reinstitute the paris accords? no, she has to go n stage and brag about how pro fracking of a candidate she is.
she hasn't said a WORD about LGBT protections, even as trump runs some of the most absurdly transphobic filth you could imagine on NFL ads for months now. And when she gets questioned about it? can't just say yeah those are transphobic and awful, she pivots and says that we need to refer to doctors opinions. just absurdly dumb.
so yeah, at each and every turn she has demonstrated that she either does not align with my values on fundamental issues, or actually feels the opposite. i truly wanted to give her my vote, but I can't justify it with the lack of compassion she has demonstrated. there are a lot of people in their mid 20s in PA that feel the same way I do, and if she finds a way to lose the election to that fucking dolt, that's on her, not us.
Abstaining just means other people will decide for you.
If PA goes for Trump by 500 votes, you will be partially responsible.
He will in no way be responsible.
The Dems made a calculation that continuing to fund and arm a genocidal ally wouldn't hurt them that much. They knew they would lose votes because of it. If someone says their main issue is literally that then the people making that decision have to own it. They can go find some more votes by doing some tour stops with the ever popular Cheneys.

If I wasn't watching this terrible awesome movie I could make a list of 100 better arguments for voting for Harris. There are actual persuasive ways of doing that which don't include blaming someone with valid grievances for being responsible for the Dems fumbling another layup.

Are you watching Cars 3?
I think I did watch part of that with my nephew a while back? But no, Hatchet for the Honeymoon.
I had another phone banker tonight. Poor lady was terrified. Probably had some people yelling at her. Can't wait till next Wednesday for whatever the new nightmare is.

i respect this. just curious, why not third party? it's funny you have one of the only votes here that even matters
i've considered it, but while it is a kinda a neo-lib take i do think the green party is a wee bit grifty. and to sangs point, is putting in my vote there is somewhat pointless. but maybe i will.
and as far as kamala goes, yeah its not like its something that doesn't have me feeling very conflicted. i've had plenty of moments where i deeply consider all the points yall have made above. but when it comes down to it, the amount of dead kids ive seen combined with this administration continuing to defend, fund, and support it at every turn, as she ensures that everything will stay business as usual, is just where i draw my line at what I can give my support to.
So the other 2 people that are abstaining. Why aren’t you voting?
of course the genocide is the main thing!

Probably somewhat correct but overthinking. They will export you regardless.

Life is about making choices, and sometimes that choice is between bad or worse. By not choosing, you get worse by default.
Any serious Trump voters I hope your life is as meaningless as it appears to be and you rot on earth before rotting in hell. Congrats on your loser accomplishments. To the board trolls it’s almost funny.

When it comes to the general election, perfection is the enemy of good. If you weren't in a bona fide swing state I'd cut you some slack from abstaining.
Democrats leave a lot to be desired when it comes to our country's enmeshment with Israel and other things. I wish they did as much to appeal to true progressives as they do to the ever elusive "center". Unfortunately the opposition has become so extreme in the last 2 decades that, under the status quo, the electorate HAS to consider the least bad choice for POTUS in the general election.

Just having some fun. Nobody here, you’d hope is a real [tm] Trump voter. If they are, well ignorance is bliss motherfuckers.

Same, although I dont think any bliss should be afforded to anyone voting Republican in 2024.
I'd be giving them the same amount of respect they'd give a democratic socialist like me: none.
You’re right. Old mfer like me would just point out how fucking dumb those motherfuckers are. And they should cash in their American cards for I am a dumb ass loser follower card. And their parents should be ashamed they raised idiots and should have had abortions. But that’s America I guess.

Honestly I don’t know. I don’t know much about politics except that I hate Trump. I know enough to know what side I’m on but I don’t know anything about local politics.

ps. Primary elections are important.
this is just where the fundamental difference is. standing firm on not supporting a candidate who has made it clear she will continue to aid and abet a genocide is not me wanting "perfection". that is the bare fucking minimum. her stated viewpoints on the matter don't just "leave a lot to be desired". she has made it clear that israel will have every resource it needs to continue its campaign against gaza, lebanon, iran, and anyone else they deem to be deserving of an air strike to a hospital. that is depraved, and minimizing it as the dems just not quite being perfect is exactly why the bar continues to plunge.

Liberals have a terrible time not talking past people when discussing issues like this. I feel sorry for them. I'd hate to have spent the last year trying to argue why the Dems helping out a genocide is simply a bumbling, regretful thing and you still gotta support them. It seems impossible to do without them being smug or veering off course.
What's been really amusing is how many people talked to you like you were ignorant, while displaying a lack of basic knowledge on US foreign policy or what Biden could actually do to severely clamp down on Israel's actions. So everyone has learned something I guess. Now it's just "well, jeez. I don't like it but we gotta support them."
And sure, lots of people feel like they do. They have no other option until the empire implodes. Of course one way empires implode is getting into wars they can't win. So the last year has shown us the Dems aren't even the party that will avoid that in the long-term. Not to mention doing even deeper damage to our national image.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Sigh. And here I thought it wasn’t possible to have a thread more depressing to read than the Politics thread. Should’ve known better.
Don’t be depressed. You can only think for you. We are both parents and understand the world. I believe you also have a daughter so the idea of faux masculinity that Trump and rightwing personalities push that appeals to incels and the terminally online may make sense to them. I tried to goad any of them out yesterday but faux masculine motherfuckers, besides not having any balls, dont have any real defenses they can publicly air. None of them can cite any policies because the entirety of right wing America is based on disinformation, emotion and knee jerk reactions. People falling for that shit should self-reflect on it or else resign themselves to be terminal followers. They have a professional wrestling understanding of politics, policy and life. That’s actually more depressing than this thread. But if people willingly allow themselves to be brainwashed, it’s clear that in the information age, it doesn’t take years of indoctrination at a madrassa to radicalize an idiot anymore. At least kids being indoctrinated in schools didn’t really have a choice.
