Hey all.. To all those who have rented campers, specificaly those who have rented in the knoxville area.. What are some decent, moderately places to rent a camper?
If not in Knoxville, then somewhere in TN, preferably on the way from the Northeast.

Hey happycamper...I will also be coming from Baltimore, and not all my friends are psyched about the rv idea. let me know what you end up deciding. I was looking at www.cruiseamerica.com, which has a rental place in knoxville, right on the way for us.
Take a look at : www.rv-dealers.com There has to be some dealers on the way on I-81 in Virginia. I am going to Bristol TN in March for a NASCAR race. I will keep my eyes open for dealers along the way. I'm sure you can find a dealer in the Southeren part of Virginia, then you will only have a 6ish hour ride with the RV..

If you can find people to split it with it is SO worth it... I had SO much more energy with what little sleep I got in AC and a real bed.
how does the AC work in an RV? the one on the roof, you can just run that whenever, without killing the battery?
i've only ever been in a really crappy RV we had growing up lol, these new fangled ones confuse me!
Last year was the first time we got an RV, and I completely agree with having an incredible amount of energy after a long night of shows. I really don't think I could go back to camping.
Anywho... Our AC worked off the engine/gas. So we came back at 4am-ish, ran the AC for a couple hours, and then started it back up at 7am until it was time again to head to the shows at noon-ish.
Running the AC for the whole weekend, it only brought our gas tank down 1/4... so as long as you stock up on gas ahead of time, you should be ok.

Oh- and I'm going to reserve the RV tomorrow. Anyone who just wants to rent an AC'd bed for the weekend, let me know. It just depends on how many of my friends I get to commit.

www.northsidervs.com/index.html This is the place I used last year. It was the cheapest I found. It was even brand new, still had the plastic on the carpets. The place is in Lexington, KY. I don't know if that is out of your way or not. It was a little out of the way for me, but the price difference was worth it. As far as the roof AC units go it does run off the battery, but letting the rv run for 1/2 hour a day will keep everything charged up sufficiently. Oh yeah, the water tanks on these things aren't very big. You will only get 4 or 5 quick showers total. One way we conserved some water was to keep it off when we used the restroom and just keep the drain open while we used it so it would go right into the septic tank. Kinda gross, but we got an extra shower out of it. Hope this helps!
2 years ago we rented a pop-up camper. 250 for the weekend, we rented a gen from Home Depot, not sure how much, but I think it was 50 - 100 for the weekend.

I could be wrong on this but to my knowledge you have to be 25 to rent any kind of car/truck/rv. I believe that is nationwide too. I haven't ever heard it being lower than that. It probably has to do with the cost of insuring you to drive it.

For the pop-up camper people, do you have to have a van or a truck to haul a pop-up? (I don't suppose my 2004 Buick Century would be able to pull it, would it?)

You'll probably need a Class III hitch, at least. UHaul should be able to tell you if your car will work for that application.
Edit: I looked it up on UHaul - Class II only for your vehicle. You could pull a Jet Ski, or a very small boat, but no campers.

Not sure about RV's, but some car rental companies will rent to under 25, I think they charge more on insurance or something like that, but I did it when I was under 25.

I doubt there would be any pop up that you could rent that is towable with a Buick.
Your car probably has a towing max of like 1000 pounds. Most pop ups weigh at least 1400. And that's with nothing else but the camper. When you start adding food, supplies, water, beer....etc., you're gonna be well over.
Not only do you have to worry about pulling the RV, but also Braking. Thats can be very dangerous.
For the last three years, we've been late renting our RV. The closest one we could find was in Olive Branch Mississippi. So we'd fly to Memphis, take a cab to Olive Branch (20 minutes) Drive back to Memphis, stay at the Graceland RV park. Sweet. Pool, spa, 100 yards to Graceland, Up early Thursday, 5 hour drive to Manchester.
Wouldn't do it any other way. AC, shower, bathroom, shade, refrigerator, stove, microwave. Some guy comes by and empties waste tank (40 bucks) fills your water (another 40 bucks)
It is kinda pricey, but I fly out from SF, and NO WAY am I camping.

I have done General camping, vip and the last 2 years we rented an RV. VIP is nice but fails to give me the x-tra rest I need. I party till 4 or 5am everyday and being able to sleep in ac until 11am is the only way to go. Now if u can swing and rv and vip u are the 'roo god and will be good to go
How doe the AC work on the Pop-up? Just from general observation it appears you need a generator. So does the rig have an ac unit that you just plug into the generator?
Where is the handicap section for RV's? Will that get you closer to the better stages?
How well did they search the RV? Do I need to remove all of the glass items that I keep in it all the time?
I am older than the average female attending - so is just luck of the draw on searching or will the powers that be target me since I am older???
On running the gen - do they allow it to be run any time? I was told by Bonnaroo Info that the RV had to fit in a 20 x50 spot that the slides had to fit within and that the gen had to be 1.5 kw. My RV gen is about 6 times that size but rated sound wise for the National Parks and anyone with slides is going to have a larger gen so I would like to know if they said anything to the RV people about running the larger gen's???
So the gas gen's did not use much gas??
Did they have a "honey wagon" to service the RV's?? If so was it expensive?
Any tips on RV use or things that you wish you knew before you got there??
Does anyone know anything about Myers Pond or Myers Lake Campground that is suppose to be about 7 miles away?
Any RV rental will be expensive and if you rent, make sure that they have instructions in the unit since there is so much to know to operate it. Pay attention when they tell you the things that you need to know about dry camping. I learn something new each time we take it out. The unit (1996) was bought very used, but I think it will be perfect for this type of camping if I don't have to unload all the items that I keep in if for normal use.
I put an ad on my local craigslist asking if anyone would be willing to rent out their RV. I wouldn't come straight out and tell them you're bringing it to Bonnaroo. I mentioned something about making extra money and some local guy is renting me his 31' RV for $500 for the whole week!!! Try it, and good luck!
