anywho, I have a question. Is tent only worth the hike and how long is it??
cause I plan on bringing the works..kitchen tent, reg tent, Coleman stove, coolers etc...
Tent only is near Centeroo so the distance depends on how far away you are parked (pure chance.) If you're way far away you can hump the essentials to Tent Only and set up a "day camp." Otherwise I'd just camp at the vehicle. Might be best to wait and see where they put you but be prepared to set up a Tent Only site just in case.
I usually bring the works too and have always been close enough to just camped at my truck.
ughhhh. seriously some people honestly underestimate how offensive and hurtful their posts can be, and as a survivor i say f.uck you.
moving onnnnn.
this will be my fourth year at roo and i have learned a few things along the way. - girls bring hair elastics, bobby pins, hair bands, and other decorative things to keep your hair out of your face, and that goes for any boys with sexy long locks as well. - bring lots of fresh fruit and other snacks that you'll actually eat... last year the idea of eating a hot dog or hamburger was revolting in the heat, but i managed to survive off of grilled cheese, pringles, cherries and other fruit - leave your ice in the bag in the cooler, it keeps it icy longer - bring some things to share with your neighbours, whatever that may be... it's always nice to have a few things to spare for passer byers, and other people who may just need a bit of extra help at bonna - if you smoke, bring more cigarettes then you think you'll need - last year we brought a cot and set it up under our shade structure and took turns napping on it during the day which was great, we also pulled our air mattress out from our tent every morning and put it under our shade and slept on that as well - have a funny joke to tell - double quadrouple secure your shade structure, after last years monsoonaroo on the first night we came back and our shade structure was ass backwards three campsites over on someones car and we were stuck trying to reorganize ourselves in the pouring rain while all our stuff blew away and got soaking wet - if all your stuff blows away and gets soaking wet, you have almost no choice but to drink/smoke/eat yourself into a stoupur and laugh your ass off at yourself - DONT I REPEAT DONT take a late night nap if you legit plan on seeing a specific late night show, there is a good chance once you get cozy in your tent you may not get out until morning - be prepared for things to get crazy, and when that happens laugh about it and let things slide that you might think twice about in real life (i.e. i may or may not have peed my pants at bonnaroo last year and had to be helped into clean undies before my friends would bring me into snoop dogg, i repeat may or may not... but mostly may - bring an open mind and use it! -
This has been some really helpful information. I had a quick question. Other than an EZup, how would you suggest "shading" your tent? I'll admit to being a guy who likes his sleep, and I want to be able to sleep later than a couple of hours after sunrise if at all possible. Thanks!
Me: Did you say Retarded Steve was playing tonight? Boo: No, I have a speech impediment. I said that Retarded Steve is playing. www.411mania.com/siteimages/jcs logo_25254.jpg[/img] Check out Jam Central Station on Facebook on.fb.me/bT2xQx and @jamcentral411 on Twitter
Also tarps can be rigged as shading across vehicles and tents and any other structures you can create. And the battery powered fans are MORE than worth the investment!
Last year I brought a shower curtain, secured it to the upper frame of my EZ-up, and attached a couple heavy clamps to the bottom of it (for when it got windy). Worked marvelously as a sun-shade, and it was easy to move with the cheap plastic shower rings. Plus I think the icy mountain scene and the penguins helped me deal with the heat too
And yeah, it is definitely a good idea to have something to sleep on under the EZ up. Every day last year I would wake up sweltering in the tent, pop out onto my cot in the shade, and sleep a couple more hours in the cool breeze of a Bonnaroo morning.

strong survivor. ♥ you tell 'em. arsehole. seriously that guy sucks.
anyway.
cherries! what a great idea. SO bringing these next year. wow that sounds awesome.
re: snoop dogg, i will be laughing about that for days. double awesome. +crunchy.
Cherries! Last year I brought cherries, in a cooler with dry ice. Nothing like icy cold carbonated cherries after wandering around in the Tennessee heat!
You know it's amazing after the strange and delicious foods I had in Centeroo that I never once had a stomach issue. Even the spicy 5 meat cajun plate or whatever, no problem. Still, not a bad idea to bring some pepto.
Also, this should be a no brianer, but keep your cooler in the shade.
Sound advice. Another thing to consider is that coolers (especially when stocked with frothy brews) tend to be the most common target of opportunistic thieves. It might be a good idea to not leave it out in plain sight when you're away, especially if you're near a major thoroughfare.
^^While I'm sure thievery occurs, I have never experienced it in 7 Roos. I am bad about leaving everything out in the open, including beer and whiskey (obviously not wallets or expensive items though) and have not had anything messed with. Be cautious but don't worry unnecessarily.
Of course I am usually very familiar and friendly with all my neighbors so we all know who belongs. This is a very important thing to do on Thursday. Making new friends is not only helpful but extremely fun.
^^While I'm sure thievery occurs, I have never experienced it in 7 Roos.
I have heard about 5 thefts in the 4 times I've been; all have been cooler jacks (which is fairly tame compared to money, credit cards, or high order goods). I'm sure it's not that common, but not leaving things out in front of God and everyone else is probably a good idea.
That being said, I'm like you. I usually don't heed my own advice.

In all my years of bonnaroo, I can think of two things being stolen from our campsite. One was a five day cooler stocked with Jones sodas (Someone probably thought it was a ground score) and a bottle of sunscreen that was inside my tent (laying next to my friends 3 foot Tobacco pipe). All in all, most roo folk are pretty honest, just dont tempt the less honest ones.
We had a cooler was stolen last year in tent-only. We had three coolers, and two were attached to the EZ Up with a bike lock, but it wasn't long enough to extend to the third cooler. It just so happened the cooler that wasn't locked up had the most beer. It happened on Saturday night though, so we just had to suffer one day without a lot of beer.
Needless to say, we'll be buying another bike lock this year to make sure we can attach all of our coolers to the EZ Up. But of all the things that could have been stolen, the cooler was the best thing for them to take because it's all completely replaceable.

Sorry for any repeats here, just tryin to be thorough.
For walkin around n stuff:
1. Camelbak or something of that nature. Hydrated roo is much more fun than dehydrated roo. Most of them also have a place to put all this other crucial stuff. 2. Gold Bond. or bodyglide. Whatever you need to keep the chafegoblins at bay. 3. Sunscreen. If you're an officemonkey from Boston, you'll probably need more and stronger sunscreen than if you are a construction worker from Louisiana. Apply accordingly. And please don't think that going without all weekend is a good chance to work on your tan. I've seen some pretty nasty pus-filled blisters from burns that were "really not that bad, dude." 4. Immodium. I have an otherwise iron-clad digestive system, but I learned the hard way in 06 and had to stop at every porta-pottie in between centeroo and camp griswold. That was not the highlight of my experience that year. 5. Ziploc baggies. You'll likely have a program, cell phone, and camera that you need to not get wet all weekend, and they're better to keep gold bond, sunscreen, and toilet paper in than just your pack or purse or whatever. 6. Shades and hat. 7. Comfy shoes and extra socks.
For the campsite:
1: Obvious: tent, tarp, bedding, pillow, EZUP, camping chair. 2: Still kinda obvious: Water. Lots of water. Think that's too much water, the 2 cases you brought? Probably not. You have friends, you'll meet friends, everyone is thirsty all the time on the farm. Don't feel right on Saturday evening with the 8 layers of sunscreen, dust, and sweat that you are lugging around like a suit of armor? A bottle of water, a sponge and some soap will clear that right up. 3. Cooler. 5 day coolers will pay for themselves in the 5 buck bags of ice that you're going to buy regardless. Just depends on how many you have to buy. 3: Don't forget to bring a towel. 4: Extra tent stakes= extra friends. This can go for just about any camp setup/breakdown tools. 4 years ago during setup I heard my neighbor say "that guy has a southern accent, lemme see if he's got a knife." I've been camping with them every year since. 5: Extra tarp/rope/duct tape.

Something I recommend that I just remembered....
Go on Ebay and buy you some additional batteries for your cell phone. Charge them up and take them with you, that way, if you are in tent only or do not have a car charger, you have cell phone usage the entire time you are there and you dont have to mess with trying to find a place to charge your phone.
Cell batteries are pretty cheap. I bought two for my phone for under 10 bucks and I bought an additional "battery only" charger for 4. Another idea of course is to take an old phone and use it as well.

Get a cheap canopy at wal mart and get some sheets of tyvek they use it for floor covering while painting etc. It is water proof but breathable. Draw designs whatever and tie strings between canopy poles. hang the tyvek over it. It will shade your site big time.

Man, I would have never thought of Tyvek. Isn't that the same stuff they use on the sides of houses before they put on siding? If so, that's genius. That stuff is all over my subdivision because they are still building houses. I may need to liberate some and see how it works.

Agreed on the heat. Sunday in 2008 was hot as immortal hell fire. We didn't venture out until night fall. I Remember that pretty clearly.
Glad to see this thread being bumped again.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned on here is solar showers. They will work but be ready to have a cold one if it is cloudy. We camp budget style so even if you bought all new solar showers and new bags for 2-4 people it is way cheaper than a seven dollar shower everyday for each person.
We camp in pod 1 (bfe) and a showerless shakedown the whole roo from that far away is asking for it. I mean no way.
We find a hole in the schedule and start showers and dinner at the same time. It's a bit of work on every bodies part. This way we are clean for the cool night and have home-cooked meals inside of us. You should see the people's eyes around you while you are eating steak, chicken or burgers. Even eating good you will come out so much cheaper. I always feed my neighbors what ever is left, that way you and your friends are recharged and ready for some late night action. (This year may be more crucial than ever)
