I know its a long ways away, but because I love thinking about 'Roo ;D I was wondering... do you have to pick either regular camping or tent-only up front? Because I was thinking as great as tent-only sounds, what if we were luckily assigned a really close parking/camping spot? Do they ask you when you are driving in, or do you just go to tent-only on your own if you want?

pretty sure that if you want to go to tent only you just park your car wherever they direct you and pack your stuff over to tent only area. not positive as ive never done tent only but i have never been asked about it either.
They put you and your auto in your spot and you trek to tent only from there.
So yeah, you were right in assuming that you could end up with a stellar car camp spot and sort of cancel out the distance factor of tent only. They don't ask you you preference -- everybody gets their spot and where they go from there is their own thing.
i know my group is gonna wanna stay with the cars. which is fine with me, i really don't feel like hauling all my nuts over to tent only, we feel confident in the timing of our arrival to land a decent campsite
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Good luck! There is nothing more random and arbitrary than placement at Bonnaroo!

hehe... sorry to laugh at you but that just made me giggle
doubters eh so be it. furthermore, we definitely didn't mind walkin back and forth last year, even if we had been further back than we were. no matter how you slice it, i don't consider it worthwhile to have to haul all my gear over there

In 05' I was about a 40 min walk away from centeroo. 06' I was only a 5 min walk to centeroo and I arrived at the same time both years, early thursday morning. So it's all about luck basically.
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."

I'm with you - we had about a 20 min walk - but it was not bad - packed the backpack for the day and headed out - it ws fairly quiet late night - nice to have the cars right there and not have to haul - tent, shade, clothes, coolers and that stuff to tent only
Last year we arrived at 8AM thursday and were a 5 Min walk away. what is the earliest they will let you in? I guess that you are where ever they put you with NO chance of moving I hear that people who get there Wed night get put 40 minutes away.
Ooh, the A/C thing is a really good point. We don't want to lug our stuff to tent-only if we don't have to, but I would almost rather do one trip of lugging to be able to be close to Centeroo and not have to walk in the heat for 30 minutes every day. But the A/C thing is such a good point.
