I've been pouring over the wealth of info on this site and soaking it all in. I've seen numerous mentions of bring a rain jacket. I'm asking for any and everyone 's opinions as to which brand I should invest in. Most important features to me are breathable, hooded, preferably with pit zips as well. The brands that have leapt out at me so far are Marmot, Mountain Hard wear and North face, but are any of these far and away better then the others ? Thanks in advance ???

I've never been to a roo, but I bought a poncho (cheap..few bucks) to bring with me...if it rains, it probably won't be too hot that you can't stand a little poncho-body heat...or I would imagine/hope it wouldn't. I don't want to spend a lot on rain gear, because if I'm going to be as dirty as I think I am, a little wash-off wouldn't be a bad thing ! ;D
id recomend waist high waders and a rain jacket with great coverage if you plan on staying completely dry/clean during the rain (yes, there wil lbe rain at some point). buy a poncho or bring a garbage bag and scissors

my northface jacket has a zipout fleece liner, so without that it's pretty lightweight.. that said, i still got pretty soaked last year i'd say just accept the fact that you're not gonna stay 100% dry and go the cheapest route!
Yeah, I usually just bring a couple cheap ponchos. Someone above mentioned trash bags. These work in a pinch but are also super for sitting on when the ground's wet.
Thanx much for all the input y'all. I found a good deal on a North Face jacket. Thats one thing down on my mighty list of gear for the festival. Hope to see some of you there.
I was hoping I'm not the only one. I brought a poncho just to have it and if anyone else might need it..but I know if rained as wasnt an incredibly cold rain I would have my shirt off and just enjoy it.

I bring a rain jacket if it rains at night when it's cooler, but during the day the rain feels sooooo nice.

we bought $5 rain suits (plastic pants and a zip-up hooded jacket) at meijer in the hunting section. i prefer these over the standard poncho if it's rainy & muddy cause then it doesn't matter if you have to sit on wet/muddy surfaces.

The cheap rain suits are nice if it's pouring, but they work like sauna suits if it's just drizzling all day long. You'll be as wet from your own funk as from the rain.
actually - I was thinking that if it rained alot - the ground was soaked - you could just cut the legs off - but you would still be able to sit anywhere without getting swamp butt
You'll get swamp butt from just sitting in rubber pants/shorts too. Those cheap suits are made from PVC, the same stuff the fetish folks use. But it would only be your sweat as opposed to 'Roo water runoff, so it might be a good trade-off.
Edit : A small chair is the best way to stay off the soaked ground, IMO. It allows your "can" to get fresh air too.
Defiantly bring a chair. We went our first year with out one and it was tough sitting on the ground by Sunday. Make sure you have a good poncho for your self and make sure you have a garbage bag or another poncho for your back pack to keep your food and camera dry also. I also recommend throwing some sort of rubber boots in your car just in case. If we get rain this year that is any where near what we got in '04 you will thank me.

So if it rains really hard especially at night there is this stuff called frogskin... I use it on long trips on the motorcycle... it breaths really well and yet is watter tight... but personally i'm not going to bring my sacred riding gear... I'll pack a dollar poncho and in all likelihood not even wear it just bask in the summer rains.... though i'm deffinetly bringing my wellys

I know this isn't rainWEAR, but I got a blanket that might come in handy if you don't want to carry around a chair. Got it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond...it's an all weather travel blanket that has a water resistant shell and I think it's pretty cool looking. They have some with stripes and some with flowers...the reverse is solid color.

I bought a bunch of ponchos from the dollar store. There come 2 in a bag. Cheap. And I'm waiting closer to Roo to see the wheather and then deciding if I really need to buy mud boots. Otherwise, I'm wearing a bathing suit and a skirt anyway. Don't over pack.
