PVC pipes. Just cut them into several small (2-3 ft) sections, bring some connectors and reassemble them once you're at camp.
niceee. and then do i just hammer the bottom piece into the ground to get it to stay?
It really depends on the ground. Some parts of the farm are hard and rocky, so I would suggest building a 3 or 4 pronged (PVC) stand to stick the pole into. (PVC connectors come in many shapes) Just be sure to weigh or tie the legs down for stability(coolers work great).

I good place to see video on knots is listed below. I always use the simple half hitch and repeat it several times. It holds anything. Other knots also demonstrated.
In this thread it was mentioned to get tarps that reflect the sun. The canvas on the EZ-Up I just bought has one side that's blue and the other is silver. Should I put the silver side out, even though the pic on the box shows the blue side out?
EDIT: Never mind, I just remembered that all of the velco is on the silver side, so the blue has to go outside.
I was hoping for some advice for extra shade. Some people mentioned tapastries to put on the sides facing the sun in the morning but I did a Google search and found only tapastries that were $100 and up. Anyone know where to get cheaper ones?
I am flying in and limited in space so I can't really bring a big tarp.
Also, how would I attach the tapastries? Would saftey pins work?

I just bought the 14' x 16' Coleman off amazon for around $100. On second thought, 16' is pretty damn big. Maybe I will set my tent up in it too!
My idea for adding side shade for this would be to get some cheap, medium-weight sheets or fabric and sew a curtain style "loop" of fabric at the top and bottom. Then stretch some little bungees through these loops and hook across each panel of the screen.
Also, these Grommet kits are nice for all of your tarp needs: tinyurl.com/299f3m

My group made fun of me last year because of all my tarps I brought. Then they all thanked me. We tied from our shade tent to the neighbors luggage racks on both sides. We also hang some cool tapestries in strategic places. We had tons of shade. Also i bring lots of extra ropes and different stakes. Always come in handy.
Yeah, cheap sheets are a better idea...they are cheap and it won't matter if they get damaged. That's what I've decided I will do.
from what I've heard, you can get free white sheets at hotels, cause they throw out ones that get stained. Then, give em a little of your own tye-dye, and you are good to go!
I'm not sure if anyone has suggested this-but buying light colored shower curtains and hanging them with the shower rings on your shade tent works AMAZING for shade-they are easy to move around and they stay put!

Just bought a 2 pack at home depot today for 17 bucks. They are heavy duty brown tarps but the under side is silver. We used the same kind last year and it worked great.
Don't lay it on top. It will turn into an oven. You need some airspace to allow the tent to breathe and release heat. Attach it to something (canopy, car) and leave as much space as possible between it and the tent.
If it's just for rain, that's fine but you might want to secure it with stakes or something in case it gets windy. If you want to keep cool you need some space between the tarp and tent for airflow.
You can get little stakes and nylon rope, you can probably borrow a mallet from somebody. That'll secure it well enough. Put a beach ball on top of your tent to get a little space for air, but air flow is the key, the more the better.
Personally I would not put a tarp on top of my tent unless we get a downpour. We were forced to do this last year when we went camping and I had to sleep in the truck. The tent was unbearably hot.
Beach ball is a GREAT idea. I'm gonna remember that one. Thanks and Karma.

The last two years our group has been +15 in size so we always collectively had lots of stuff to build the campsite with....this year is different. Just four of us, and I'm trying to get some stuff together to make sure we have plenty of shade and decent campsite without spending a crapload of money or taking all of thursday to set up....i've already bought a couple good-sized tarps that have the rings and ropes already in the package, but where's good to go for the rest of what I need, and what else should I get exactly? (stakes, more tarps, whatever) Thanks!!
P.S. - doesn't have to be too simplistic, just not trying to win any contests!!! ;D
I'm bring some "T" posts and an post driver. If you have room to bring some posts you can borrow my driver. It should work good assuming the ground isn't too hard. "T" posts cost about $4 a piece at Lowes.
we found some tent poles for $5.00 at academy sports that worked great in setting up the tarps..picking up some more this week as our group is larger this year and we have more tarps to set up..also bass pro has same tent poles on web site....bassproshops.com
another thing to think about wwith a tarp under a tent is (and noted from a camper and worker at a camp store) is to make sure teh tarp is completly under teh tent, not sticking out (fold if neccesary) as teh rain will hit the tarp and roll under the tent if it sticks out.
this year I will be following advice and putting a tarp over my tent to block some sun. what advice do you all have for setting up the tarp, what type of poles, etc. where can I find... Thanks!!!!
please keep the tarp ideas coming I am thinking I am going to go this route... How do you clip them to your canopy? I am thinking I am going to put my tent under the tarp between the back of my car and the canopy.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
zip ties...and that is a very good idea.or you could put canopy at rear of car tarp over car and tarp off the back of canopy,,that way you keep car shaded also
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
