I have not seen a thread dedicated to food yet, so I am going to make one now. People should list the different types of food they were able to buy in the parking lot, on shakedown, and in Centeroo (be it breakfast or whatever)? Also label how much it usual would cost you walking around? I would just like to know the variety I will be able to enjoy walking around (I have already heard about the huge variety of grilled cheeses available).
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I missed Shakedown last year, but I know that in Centeroo they tend to have standard carnival sort of food - pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cake (I had a d@mn good funnel cake while waiting for Béla Fleck's solo set last year), barbequed anything-you-can-think-of (ribs, I read on here somewhere about there being BBQ alligator, though that might have been on Shakedown, etc. etc.), gyros, frozen lemonade....stuff like that.
the van a few campsites to the left of us could be heard advertising "special" cookies and grilled cheese all weekend, $2 ice cold jager shots were also being sold on our 'street'
I posted this in another post also - over by the ferris wheel was a place selling plates of yellow rice, black beans, grilled veggies and steak strips - huge plate - enough for 2 people - $10.00. They would top it with sour cream and salsa if you asked.
We ate this Thursday night - it was great but we went back on Sunday afternoon and it sucked because they just kept adding steak to the dales seasoning that it was soaking in and by Sunday it was way way too salty
To the left of the main stage last year they had some booths set up and I got a gargantuan corndog for 5 buck. I swear that this was like 16 inches long.
In a related note that you guys will probably put in the tmi catagory:
On the way back to our spot with the corndog (We were waiting for Steel Pulse), I went down with heat exhaustion or dehydration or something and never got to eat the corn dog. I ended up having to crwl to the fence at the back of the field to "empty my stomach"
I had not had a single party favor that day (yet) it was like 1:00 in the afternoon on Friday and I think I got sick because I had not eaten anything that day and the heat had really gotten to me.
I did go back on Sun and got another corndog and it was really good!

dude i had one of those giant corndogs on the first night, cept i bought it near the fountain somewhere i think (it was all a blur)... i dunno if it was cause i hadn't eaten in almost 24 hours or what (travelling) but it was the BEST CORNDOG EVER ;D
We normally only ate at our camp (brough a grill and som elondon broil) but the one day we had decided to eat in Centeroo. I had found a place with mamoth cheese steaks for like 7 bucks. It was all types of good! I think this year I need to find these grilled cheese I keep hearing people rave about.

my fave foods at roo: falafel FROZEN LEMONADE = got me thru the heat - these things are awesome and I had the best chicken tortilla thing ever - it was HUGE 2 people could share that thing ;D
did anyone try the snocones last year right at the beginning of Shakedown? You could put your own syrup on em.

Big ups on the frozen lemonade! If you're camped out in the main stage crowd all day the little frozen lemonade stands in the crowd will save your life. There is a New Orleans-based seafood stand by the main stage that has any kind of fried seafood you can imagine. I stood in line right behind Shooter Jennings and Drea de Mateo (guess I should throw that one in the "celebs at Roo" thread). I highly recommend the gator tail.
up near the little church last year there was this big red cart that sold homemade ice cream... i think i got to know the couple running it by the end of the weekend...
Are there places to get food in the heart of the camping areas, or do you have to take a hike to get food? I may have to rethink how much food I bring with me if we're gonna have to walk far to get food and drinks.
The food is officially located on Shakedown Street and in Centeroo (Vending is only allowed indesignated areas.) You can occassionally find an individual selling something but that's not the stuff listed in this thread.
From Camp Inforoo, food is fairly close. If you're in BFE, food, like everything else except water and bathrooms, is a distance away.
Of course if your going to be at Centeroo and the shows most of the time, food is very handy.
If you go in the arch entrance and take a right to go to centeroo, one of those first vendors you pass has ice cream. Hot fudge sundaes after late-night...mmmmmmm
Also in that same group of vendors is the best veggie quesadillas ever!!!! I think I ate nothing but those in '04! (they also had a stand out on shakedown last year I think)
