Every year I go to a music festival such as 'roo, I end up with hundreds of little, semi-painful dots on my legs. They follow the lines of my shoes/sandals, and despite my efforts to figure out what they are, I am always told by the First Aid Tent that they are:
-Chiggers -Sun Burn -Heat Rash -Allergies -Cthulu -A small goat nibbling on me in my sleep
Does anyone have a clue what these things are, and how I can avoid them? I use sunscreen and bug spray and have been taking benadryl but they just won't go away!
allergic to sunscreen/ bug repellant?? or maybe the sock nomes are pissed that you aren't wearing any socks. so they hammer away at you with their pickaxe's!

Now that you mention it I get those too. Mine don't itch or anything and they go away after a couple days away from roo so I haven't ever worried about them. I would say it is either bug bites or maybe an allergic reaction to the bug spray they use on the land to keep the bugs to a minimum.

Yeah, I get that each year at Roo, as well. I think it is heat rash, and I think it's irritated by the sunscreen, babywipes, bug spray, and long grass... I haven't figured out a way to avoid it yet, but if you do, let me know!
My girlfriend & I have left Bonnaroo with the same odd skin condition. I noticed that, for us, what seemed to be the culprit was the "grass", or rather, the hay fields we all camp in & call home for a few days.
I remember sitting cross legged, in the TN sunshine, sweating my ass off, & getting up to move elsewhere. While walking to another stage, my lady brought to my attention the little red bumps all over my legs. They just so happened to be exactly where I had made contact with the ground.
This just came to mind: "The bumps on your legs are from where you made contact with the ground" - sung to the tune of the PHiSH song, "Contact".
Anyway, they became less irritating after washing my legs & feet back at our campsite.

Well I looked up heat rash treatments for you and the best thing I could find was to wear as few clothes as possible in the direct sun....so there ya go...problem solved...dance naked

Ima have to go with the goat. Goats wander around roo, feeding on trash and small children(legs in a handful of cases). Last year, one ate my tent.........
it could be from a mite or some other teeny bug in the dirt or on the grass that you have an allergy to. definitely not chiggers. try using deep woods type bug spray just on your feet and ankles, make sure you reapply every couple of hours.

Deet! Those little chigger a**holes hate Deet! Alas it is sticky, obnoxious stuff that eats up plastic! Use it carefully and bring baby wipes to clean that stuff off before bed!
Along similar lines, I'd like to warn everyone about tick bites at Roo! My second Roo I found a tick on my leg and promptly pulled the sucker off. A few days later, after returning home, I had the tell-tale bullseye rash of Lyme disease. Luckily I knew what to look for and was promptly treated with few ill effects, but I'd be surprised if more people don't end up with Lyme disease and don't realize it. Once the rash is gone it can be very hard to diagnose, and if untreated can result in lots of bad things even years down the road. Many insect repellants are designed to repel ticks, but I still got bitten despite using a repellant. Keep an eye out and make like monkeys to groom and check each other for ticks!
Chigger bites are usually hard red bumps that last a week or so. Heat rash is tiny pin prick sized and goes away quickly (1-2 days) when out of the heat. Goat nibbling can go on indefinitely. And Cthulu attacks mainly the soul and subconsciencious areas.
Also if you're getting chiggers they will usually crawl up to the warm, moist groin areas also so if it's staying on your feet I'd say poison ivy or heat rash or an allergic reaction to sunscreen or something.
