This was my first Bonnaroo, and although I loved it and we're already planning for next year, we all got sick (think colds, coughing, etc.). Is this a normal thing? Because of the dust or somethin'?
Also, on Saturday my ankles swelled up to twice their size. A couple of days ago they were back down to normal but it really peeved me because it made it hard for me to stand a long time and I really wanted to for the White Stripes. :/
Any tips to keep this stuff from happening next year?

There's lots of threads about the Bonna-flu or the Bonnacough and whatnot. Being exposed to those elements plus I'm guessing a lot of us didn't eat too healthy all weekend either. Also, who knows whose germs I shared during our "meet the neighbors" festivities at nights and in mornings. I'm just glad it didn't kick in until after I got home...
My ankles swelled up real bad too, I don't really know exactly how to prevent this from happening, but my mom suggested that I sleep with my feet elevated at night and it would help. I dunno if this would work, but hey- mom's are supposed to know best, right?

Yeah bonna-flu is no joke, I started with cold like symptoms when I got back Monday, progressing to colored mucus and a persistent cough by Thursday. I went to my Dr. today and was put on antibiotics for Bronchitis/upper respiratory infection. Dr. said I was the third person he has seen coming from Bonnaroo with these symptoms.
I figure it was the crazy dust because of the drought.. breathing in particulates is never good for your lungs... and arguably the Bonnaroo top soil would be much more germ laden than say your regular desert dust cloud because of the extreme population density at Bonnaroo.
Just think about all stuff poured out onto the ground during those 4 days, the run-off, spills, and bodily fluids, then stirred up by 160,000 feet/shoes that have been into 3 or more portalettes each day!
Next year I will probably take airborne or zicam swabs with me.
yeah i just got back from the doctors after finding out i have a throat and sinus infection, really nasty one too... im taking antibiotics to kill it, but ive gotta take tussionex just to be able to breath... very psychedelic stuff
As your attorney I advise you to drive at top speed and it'll be a Goddamn miracle if we get there before you turn into some kind of wild animal. Are you ready for that? Checking into a Las Vegas hotel under a phony name with the intent to commit capital fraud with a head full of acid? I certainly hope so...
could the ankle swellilng be due to dehydration? i know most of my body "swells" when i don't have enough fluids in me.
and by the way, i got the bonnafloo too. it didn't happen to me last year, so i was very surprised. i actually had fever on tuesday (which was the worst day), and have been blowing my nose since monday. while i have no fever now, my chest feels like it's just full of liquid, and if i can't get to a tissue to blow my nose, i start coughing it out. yuck.
Bonnaflu and Bonnacough here - had it last year also - think about it 80,000 to 100,000 people crammed into 700 acres - seems pretty normal that we were all sharing germs and such - especially when we "shared" recreational pursuits

Glad I'm not the only one feeling like crap. As Spider Robinson says " Shared misery is misery lessened, shared joy is joy increased". While I wouldn't wish the roo-flu on anyone it is still strangely gratifying to know y'all got it too.

Today I started coughing up bloody chunks of what I can only imagine are pieces of my lungs. I've finally given in to visiting the doctor tomorrow... Effffff

It's probably just blood from broken blood vessels in your windpipe (from coughing so hard). The same thing happened to me once when I threw up really violently and ruptured some blood vessels in my esophagus. But I would still see a doctor, yeah. You definitely don't want to overlook something possibly dangerous.
Both Stress and sleep deprivation weaken your immune system and after Bonnaroo I'd say its a safe bet most anyone who attended is sleep deprived so for anyone still feeling sickly here's Dr. Dan's advice. 1. Hydrate yourself keep drinking water, gatorade, OJ, whatever . 2. Dayquil tablets will do you a world of good. they are great for relieving pressure in your skull. 3. Coughdrops are your friends, use them lots for soothing that sore throat. 4. Most important I believe is get plenty of "REST". I felt like i was dying on sat. runny nose, chest congestion, my head was entirely stuffed and my ears wouldn't pop.
I took some dayquil several times, drank lots of fluids, and got like 10 hours sleep over Sat. afternoon/evening and I feels worlds better.
I have felt great since coming back from Bonnaroo. I did use a dust mask Sat evening on the way to/back from the Police to cut down on the 160, 000 foot dust bowl.
I think my little trip to the hospital fri night helped with keeping me from getting the Bonnacrud 'cause they hit me up with a couple of bags of super antibiotics to cover the urinary tract infection I had contracted from NOT wanting to go to the porta-craps and holding it for 12 hours or so. OOPS, not a good idea, I guess.
Anyhoo, I feel great now, although I did some coughing of the Bonnadust on Sun and Mon. Nothing serious. 18 years as a respiratory therapist taught me to keep especially well hydrated while you are trying to cough up the crud so you can get it up and out.

just curious. how many of you are ON antibiotics for this? my ears is super stuffed. im coughing. but i DONT want to be on meds. luckily my mucus is MOSTLY clear. hah.
its working its way through with no meds. its just the bonnaflu. it's kinda funny cause i keep telling everyone "don't worry. its not contagious. you had to be there to get it!" which truly seems to be the case cause noone around me has gotten as little as a sniffle. bonnaroo i love you, bonnaflu and all.

Luckily I didn't get sick with the cough but I was literally blowing black snot and dust out of my nose everyday starting friday morning. I did come home with a rather bizarre red rash on my ankle and spots that can only be desribed as hickey like on my foot and neck. It was so bizarre..didn't itch, hurt, or anything..just awful to look at. My grandpa called it grass poisoning. Anyone else get that kind of thing?

I got a little bit of an itchy rash on my ankles too, but it wasn't horrible. Kinda the itch factor of mosquito bites. Nothing like hickies though.
I think I'm finally getting better today. Hardly any coughing, minimal nose blowing. Yay!
finally out of the woods and feeling better - i was the only one in my group who got the bonnaflu/cough. we were taking mega vitamins all through the roo.
the worst was feeling crappy on sunday the 17th - not sure if it was just sleep deprivation or everything just overwhelming the system.
since then, just taking it easy and using cough syrup when necessary. this weekend was an exercise in perfecting sloth. i feel much better.

Umm... that would be nice, but sad to say it IS contagious. Just ask my wife, who wasn't there, but is (to paraphrase Cactus) "sharin' in the flu."
