Thats so weird! Maybe its because I'm older (39 years young) but before hubby went to get the "Operation" I had the shot for about 3 years steady. I LOVED IT! Maybe just a day or half day of slight spotting but I truly loved the shot.
But you are right Tellertrash, there are alot of people who complain about it. I personally had never had a problem with it.
We have depo here as well, but it's not that commonly used. Like out of all the women whose birth control practices I know, only two used it. And neither do any more - one just had a baby and the other switched to the ring.

Ooooh man, Depo, never again. Wish it was just spotting, I went for 2 months straight. It also made me crazy and I gained 40lbs which I'm afraid I won't be able to lose before Bonnaroo. Eff Depo!

Hey girls, I'm new to the boards but I loved reading this thread. So here are all my thoughts after my first time at roo last year:
As far as general apparel goes, I just went for tanks (or halters or whatever) and shorts. One day I went with just my bikini top and that was such a good idea, so this year I'm going to try to get some more. And also, shirts with built in bras. Not shelf bras, because those make me look like I have no boobs whatsoever, but actually soft bra cups. I love them because then I can wear cute halters and tube tops without having to wear a strapless bra or go braless (I hate the way I look braless).
And as far as staying clean...I just washed my hair each day in the troughs and used an awful lot of baby wipes. And then towards the end my friend had a brilliant idea...we had a beach towel with us that we were sitting on, and she had a nalgene full of water that was ridiculously warm from being in the sun all day, so we poured the warm water on the corners and washed our feet. It felt SO GOOD to have clean toes! And it was a great use for the hot water. Next year I'm totally bringing a washcloth or two so I can wash up easier at the troughs.
Also...I got stuck with my period for roo. AUGH! I drank parsley tea like it was going out of style and managed to induce my period early, but then it lasted so long that I still had it for roo. It wasn't horrible because it was the end of it so it was nice and light, but oh god that is NOT the kind of thing you want to deal with in the heat...when you're sharing a tent with two guys (and another girl). Trying to get that stuff organized while squirming around inside a sleeping bag is so not fun. I'm praying I can avoid it this year. I'd like to go on HBC, but if I do it won't be for a couple months probably and I'm afraid my body won't get used to it in time.
Also, here's another great link for dresses: 15dollarstore.com/c/dresses/0938005559?show_all That site actually has all sorts of clothes for $15 in juniors sizes, but I thought it was especially good for dresses.
And now I have some questions! First, for all you dress/skirt-wearers...how was the wind? I can't really remember if it was windy at all, but I'm wary of wearing skirts and dresses when I'm going to be outside constantly. I hate when it gets breezy and I have to spend all day holding on to the hem being paranoid that it'll fly up. I might have to bring some dresses this year though.
And how did you all escape the dirt + sunscreen = omg every time I touch my skin I end up with little rolls of dirt and sunscreen and dead skin problem? It was so gross last year. Seemed like no matter how much I tried to keep clean with wipes and stuff I still got disgusting every time I tried to put sunscreen on.
Ah, okay, I'm done with my super long post...sorry bout that!
I wore bike shorts under my skirts so it wouldn't have mattered, but I don't remember being bothered by the wind. I don't think there was enough wind for that. Of course, weather can always be different this year.
And then for sunscreen, I went with the spray - the aerosol, not the pump. Then I didn't have to actually touch my own skin, which was awesome. But I did still get dirty in the crease in my neck - but my fab sister would just wipe it off for me
So there are my tips - wear bike shorts and bring along a sister ;D
Post by plasticpepper on Feb 3, 2008 16:54:32 GMT -5
I think my bff will have to fulfill the role of sister...she's close enough anyway. And thanks for the input, I do think I'll have to get myself some awesome skirts and dresses. My birthday is coming soon, I wonder how weird my parents will think I am if I ask for stuff for Bonnaroo this early!
Post by tellertrash on Feb 3, 2008 17:37:23 GMT -5
i think that skirts and dresses are much better than anything else for the fact that they are lighter than any shorts/capris/jeans could be and they are so flowy that the heat never seemed to be that big of an issue...
back to birtch control.... im on seasonique and I only get my period 4 times a year. If you're already taking birth control pills everyday, i would totally look into it. my doctor recommended it and i love it.
Hey Girls, sorry for a dude to jump in on the thread, but I thought I'd drop a few hints on ways that my wife got through the oppressive 100+ degree heat last year.
We are photographers that were covering the event and had to carry heavy backpacks filled with our photography equipment.
I couldnt imagine wearing Teva's or anything that would leave your feet open like a croc product. Good running shoes that are broken in and some expensive wicking socks (Smartwool, Thorlos) are a must. Teva's or flipflops for when you're back at camp and you're just sitting around partying.
Another product we've found that is a life saver are the body hugging technical fabrics made for sports runners or atheletes. Under Armor and a few others out there make great pieces that wick any moisture away from your body and actually keep you cooler than if you to wear nothing at all.
Another benefit of these pieces is they act as both a chaf guard, and have a SPF of 30! If you're going to be wearing skirts or dresses, they make these in thigh length shorts for guys (But Girls can wear them too ) which will keep any chaf down, and also keep the neither regions nice and cool. Then you also dont have to worry about your skirt blowing up.
As for showering if you're staying in the tent area, go to any outdoor store and buy a solar shower. During the daytime you can fill this 5 gallon black bag from the watering areas, and leave it out in the sun all day.
When you come back to camp from your time spent wandering, you'll have a nice hot shower to clean up with. Just take your shower in a bathing suit and you'll not have to worry about shocking anyone with the breif nudity
Babywipes and hand sanitizer are a must for just freshing up. Sun screen and a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun off your head and shoulders will also make the event much more enjoyable.
Hope that will help a few women attending for the first time and if we can think of anything else that we learned, I'll make sure to forward it on
But I have to disagree about the shoes. Crocs were awesome because then I didn't worry about walking around in soggy shoes after going to the water troughs.
woo. Just won my ebay auction by the skin of my teeth. Now I will have a short and long Kariza.Yay!
OK about BC. I said this earlier in this thread but the ring is where its at. You don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday. Way less hormones, so no mood swings (I had those bad on the pill). More control over your period. You can skip it or just choose to have shorter ones. And mine have been a lot lighter than on the pill
You've got a point with the water spigots and the shoes, but personally if you saw what the water looked like by the end of the day, I wasnt planning on going into them things.
It's basically just recycled water for the whole day
I liked the misting tents, but that didnt get to my shoes
Just throwing out my two cents, take it for what it is

I might have to break down and buy some crocs...ugh, I don't know if I can do it! I'm also not sure because my friend who has some says they get extremely slippery when wet and extremely gross when its hot since your feet sweat. That was always what I assumed they must be like, but after reading so many good things about them on here I figured maybe I was wrong...but now I'm not sure any more! How did you croc-wearers fare when they were wet and sweaty and gross?
While I can understand why broken in running shoes would be a good choice for some, I'd think that you're really going to need to bring a backup in case it rains. Heavy, squishy running shoes are absolutely no fun. You end up with those weird pastey white wrinkled feet and an eventual dose of athlete's foot, if you're not careful. I'm sticking with Teva flip flops with the mush sole for sunny weather and Crocs if the heavens open up.
I sure as heck know it isn't for everyone, but if you're of a certain age and know yourself pretty darn well, getting your tubes tied is an incredibly freeing way to take care of the BC problem. Sooooo not for everyone. But when just about all types of BC posed medical risks to me, I took the plunge and never looked back. Funny thing I found out: lots of medical insurance plans pay for the surgery at 100%. Cheaper than all the covered costs associated with child birth!

I was just browsing Karizas on ebay after reading about them on here, and somebody is selling a lot of 50 of them...right now it's at about $99 and $35 shipping. I don't suppose anyone out there has the funds to buy the lot and resell them to all of us? It seems like there's so many of us who want them, and that would work out to a great price, but I don't know if I want to undertake the venture. Just a heads up in case anyone is interested, I'm sure someone could make some money that way.
Also, while I'm on the subject, I've got a question about karizas. They look so awesome and I'm thinking of getting one, but I don't really like the way I look without bras because I end up too...pointy. So I'm wondering...how many layers of fabric do you end up with in most of the styles? If it's just one layer of thin silk there's no way I would be comfortable with it, but if it was a few layers it might be better. Or I guess I could wear bikini tops underneath, but I'm not sure how great that would look.

emam, thanks for your comments! As a professional photographer myself (though I specialize in weddings), I appreciate what you had to say about being prepared. I'll be excited to hear what you thought of this year's 'Roo, and also see your photos!
Here's steveternal and I leaving for 'Roo with our party Ts on...
Let me say that I went braless most of the time in cotton Ts and flowy skirts. The importance of good, non-chafing underwear cannot be understated (with Gold Bond as a backup, of course!). I wore Ts primarily because I BURN super easily... exposed shoulders and neck are a big no-no for me; sunburns can make sleep so miserable and drain your energy. So I bring my favorite floppy crushable hat and some sunglasses too...
I have to chime in on the birth control thing, too. steveternal and I practice the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM)--I take my temperature, check the position of my cervix, and monitor my cervical fluid every day. It takes all of 2 minutes, and I don't have to deal with any chemicals or pay for condoms. I know exactly when my period's coming, when I'm fertile, and when to warn the hubby that I'm going to get pissy.

The Karizas are 2 layers of very thin silk. But most of the ways I've discovered to wear it iether involves bunching it up or overlapping in the front-so extra layers. I plan to wear it with a bikin top at roo and probably a strapless in regular life. Hope this helps!
I must say, the longer I was at Bonnaroo last year, the less I really cared about things like my bike shorts showing under my dress or my breasts not being properly supported. Yes, a long day and large unsupported boobies does suck, but come the evening hours after a whole day being beaten by dust and sun, it was nice to be a bit more carefree... think I may get myself a maxidress that can handle being braless for the evening or after a tough day! Old Navy already had a few dresses in for the warmer months. Last year I got a super cute one there for less than $20 that I plan on taking again this year. I am betting babies like this one will be on sale before Roo-time!
^^^super cute. And trust me, I would jump at the chance to go braless if I could. But with my triple D's, it gets pretty painful pretty quick. I need a little something

dcbee - I totally agree with you on the shoes
ok time for bed-goodnight everybody!
congrats on the ebay purchase!!!
and i agree about the pill...i hate it...i never remember to take it, and it becomes such a hassle...i have to make a doc. appointment soon, so when that rolls around, im gonna talk to them about my options...the pill made me gain a good amount of weight and i am trying to avoid that...any crazy weight gains or such on the ring?
flipflops were the only thing i wore last year...i know i read a bunch of posts that said they were bad, but i loved it...i will most likely just wear them again this year!!!
There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard. No song that I could sing. But I can try for your heart Our dreams, and they are made out of real things Like a, shoebox of photographs With sepiatone loving Love is the answer

i cant wear flips personally because my arches break down so easily with all the walking.
for the comment about the crocs with sweaty feet: my feet were/are always dry in my crocs i think its the mixtre of the vents and the product they are made of and one more thing...

My feet sweat wearing normal shoes but they did not while wearing the crocs at Roo. I think maybe because the holes let your feet breathe? Either way I never had an issue with that and I wore them the whole time. As ugly as they may be, I love my orange crocs ;D
