I must agree with the crocs. I came with converses, birks tevas and crocs. By the end of the 1st day i had blisters on the bottoms of my feet from my birks. Crocs are the way to go they seem to conform to your feet better and go around the rocks on the ground instead of them jabbing into your feet. My feet were like monster feet by the time i left.
Ooh speaking of foot injuries, Sunday night last year I was walking around our camp area in flip-flops. Alot of people had already packed up and left, so it was a little baren. I stepped on someone's discarded metal tent stake. It went all the way through my flip-flop and stabbed me in the foot. Ouch.
The moral of the story is: flip-flops do not protect your feet from misc stakes on the ground
Wow, Sunday night looked like a post-apocalyptic scary town. And walking was so dangerous - people left so much random stuff on their discarded campsites!
Clarity, I can relate. I broke a toe early in January during a drunken rainy night and it hasn't yet healed. I am SUCH the heels sort of girl but I have been living in my flat boots and one pair of flats I own ever since... and did whip out the Crocs for the weekend jaunt to the grocery and yoga. Hurts to do it... but hurts less than the foot pain!
Okay ladies, after scarfing down a very greasy bagel sandwich from Au Bon Pain, you have motivated me to get back on track for a proper Roo Bod! I am not going to wait until Monday, starting TODAY I will think, "TV or Roo bod?" "fatty breakfast or Roo bod?" Far better motivation than the yadda yadda smaller body and crap. It's all about the better time on the farm!
I've been kind of half-assed doing the special K diet. It's super easy and I've lost 10 lb on it (it's way more than just cereal-google it). Can't wait for it to get warm so I can go play/workout outside

i've started working out twice a day, 6 days a week. even if its just a 30 minute walk/jog, or a nice bike ride. i figure a good 4 months of that and i'll be more than ready for Roo!!!

i've actually become quite addicted to working out. and with the progress i've already made, it would make me feel horrible to go out and ruin it by scarfing down a whataburger.
I love the Special K breakfast bars! The blueberry ones are really good. I have got to get on it, as well. I'm already harassing ThatBoy about it. We're going to try and drop some poundage together. I don't need to drop a ton, but good lord I need to tone up. If I could trade the jiggly for muscle, I'd bet it would only net me a 5 to 8 pound drop, since muscle weighs more. But that's a lot of jiggly to tone. Ugh. Guess 6 a.m. is the new wakeup time!
^^^they have really yummy protein meal bars. They're filling and way easier to pack for lunch than pb&j. I just keep a box at work and grab and apple or something to bring in everyday
Even tho it changed with whichever meal you choose, lean cuisine is pretty good stuff for lunch or dinner or if you're stuck at work or something (i eat them on the days at school when i'm stuck there until 8 pm). I did that last week and had an orange with it to hit my sugar craving, too.
and i'm drinking a TON of hot, herbal tea lately. yum. dunno how healthy it is but i can down quite a few cups full and it's better than coffee i know...

What worked for me and I am doing again is pretty much following the French Women Don't Get Fat ethic. Good food, small portions. No fake anything - no HFCS, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, etc. Also no real snacks; save it for the meals.
Cut out most alcohol - a glass of wine once in a while and save the drinking for very special occasions.
Cut out soda and Starbucks. If I want coffee, I'll have normal coffee (no fatty or sugary stuff). Drinking water mainly occasional club soda or tea.
Eat slowly. That is a big problem of mine.
Don't allow in the house things I have no control over (chips, shredded cheese to melt over tortilla chips at 2am, ice cream, etc.)
Walk everywhere. Walk to the market, park at the end of parking lots, take stairs at work and in any building.
And then other exercise too (love yoga). When I am consistent with this, I drop weight nicely and don't feel deprived. I fall off the wagon when I have a party night and next thing you know I have had far too many vodka tonics and some fast food filth late at night and then a greasy hangover breakfast...

i'm just doing the diet and exercise thing. i usually start off with half a grapefruit and an english muffin for breakfast, and a glass of water or milk. sometimes i'll switch up and half some oatmeal and an apple or something
for lunch i bring pb&j with baked potato chips, and more water.
for dinner i usually fix chicken in one way or another, and a veggie on the side. this week it was chicken marinated in a light greek dressing with a side of okra and tomatoes seasoned with garlic and red onion.
to curb the cravings in between, i've loaded up on those 100cal packs. you've just got to be careful...some of them are high in saturated fats.
^^^ Sounds good to me, aliblue, and very simliar to how I live my life. My problem is these damn (but awesome) Girl Scout cookies that are here in my apartment constantly calling my name. All five boxes of them. I normally don't keep yummy snack foods in the house and now I know why!
I read this once and it really does work: use chopsticks. And the thing is, when it doesn't work anymore (because you've gotten too good at using them), you'll have fantastic chopstick skillz with which to amaze your friends! I'm seriously at about level 8 or 9 at mastering the zen and art of chopstick use, because of this.
^lol, i prefer chopsticks... ive been using them since i was little though so i think i eat just as fast as with forks. that's a really good idea though!
That is a good idea with the chopsticks! Karma to you!
Also if I jsut put down my utensil between bites I slow down. What happens is I start chattering away and shoveling food in between and next thing I know I have scarfed down my entire plate AND monopolized the conversation!
When I drop the fork, I then pause, I listen, I eat slower and usually eat half the amount. My mom would be proud! ;D
Another big one is bringing my lunch to work - saves money AND calories!
And how did you all escape the dirt + sunscreen = omg every time I touch my skin I end up with little rolls of dirt and sunscreen and dead skin problem? It was so gross last year. Seemed like no matter how much I tried to keep clean with wipes and stuff I still got disgusting every time I tried to put sunscreen on.

Hey Everyone! Wow Look at all the new gals! I go away to my bed because I have a terrible sinus cold and wow a whole bunch of new people! Glad everyone who's been lurking has decided to join in on the chat! YAH!
I NEVER had this problem last year and I think its because I used a spray. Someoneo on here lastyear told me about "Neutrogena Cooling Mist" Its absolutely amazing. My husband is a blond hair blue eyed irish boy and burns to a criap on a daily basis if our in the sun..... This was the best ever and he didn't even really come home with a deep tan.... Still White!
For everyone who is bringing shoes and buying crocs, PLEASE for the love of God (and your feet) make sure you wear them until your feet are used tot eh crocs. I purchased a pair and loved them BUT they gave me severe blisters on the tops of my feet. So I took them back to the store, same problem with the Mary Jane Style, so I took them back I ended up with the flip flops and they were PERFECT! I love them! They will be my Roo shoes this year but I always bring a comfie pair of Sneakers also. (Asics Gels)

I hate the word diets.. I really do. It's so hard for me to stick to something, although I did the Atkins diet when it was a big fad about 4 or 5 years ago and did lose a nice amount of weight.
I didn't feel much "healthier" though, so I gradually quit.
Now, I would really love to get into shape for roo, and just watch what I eat instead of comforming to a diet. That means no more fast food, junk, or soda.
I've been working out MWF, running 2 miles on the treadmill and doing some other cardio like the stair steppers and such. I'll start doing some light weights soon, but I don't want to get "bulky", just smooth and toned!
If anyone has any tips they'd love to share, that'd be great!
About losing weight/getting fitter: Lifting weights won't bulk you up if you use light weights (3-5 pounds, maybe 8 if you're pretty strong) and do lots of repetitions. You know how you see those big guys struggling to lift huge weights slowly like three times? Well, if you use weights that are light (or if you're using a machine, use a low level of resistance) you can do several reps in a row in a shorter period of time. That's much better for women... tones without bulking up and gets your heart rate going. Remember that muscle burns more calories than fat so building muscle helps you lose more weight when you're dieting than if you didn't strength train. Plus - strong women are hot, right??
After Bonnaroo last year was when I started dieting and exercising and lost 30 pounds. I am really looking forward to feeling lighter at 'Roo this year... I know I won't be quite as tired and hot without 30 pounds of fat chillin' out on my body! I do really need to get back to the gym on a regular basis though because I still have a very jiggly tummy. I'm not as worried about showing my round belly at 'Roo, where everyone doesn't really give a sh*t, but more spring break in about a month!

yea you should max out at about 12 reps. meaning, if you can do 30,50,100 reps (i see women do this a lot), you need to up your weight. those girly 2 lb. weights should not exist. they actually hurt you more than anything heh i won't go into the scientific explanation on it, just take my word! you won't bulk, we don't have the testosterone to do so! if you REALLY want to shed fat, look up HIIT (high intensity interval training) on google. you do 20 min cardio AT MOST. but it's a minute of working as hard as you possibly can, a minute of rest, back and forth til you're up to 20 minutes. pretty difficult, but effective.
i'll stop now. i really hope my post didn't make me sound like a miss know it all. i've recently gained a lot of weight due to medical issues, so i've hired a personal trainer and i've been researching like crazy. i've learned a lot these past few weeks!

congrats! I'm hoping to get maybe 10-15 pounds down by Roo atleast....I've gotten two knocked out just by eating healthier....

on the eating better tip... i've been living off these 100 calorie salmon fillets about 3 times a week. add in a piece of fruit or a small salad and it's a very sensible, easy and tasty lunch!
if you live in nashville, believe it or not, you can get these filets at the dollar general market on mufreesboro road. they have several types of fish including salmon and they are wrapped individually in plastic. i am even thinking of trying to take some to roo for the first full day if i can assure that i can keep them frozen enough.
they are GREAT. you can just put on in the frig in the morning and when you get home it is defrosted. cook a couple of minutes on each side. in my opinion they are better than fresh salmon that i get here in nashville (but wouldnt be as good as what you can get seaside i know this) . i think they freeze them faster .
i encourage all nashvillieans to try the dollar general market. they have GREAT fruit veggies and everything else. the store is clean and the people are very nice. its in a saucy neighborhood but work over near there and theres no real problem there - and the manager stands near the store entrance and watches things.
i went there last year before roo and got a ton of cheap stuff including a baked cake, wonderful bread, and fresh fruit.
