so since i started this thread last year, i figured it would be a good place for me to start after my inforoo hiatus...
i'm probably going to be the only one to say this (it seems like everyone else loved it), but after my first time this past roo i have to say vip wasn't for me...
the only things i will miss... i looooved showering in the morning and at night while at roo. i always embraced and loved the dirtyness in the past, but i got used to having the shower really fast. i also loved not having to use a portopotty. i literally walked back to vip (not that it was far) every time i had to go to the bathroom... i was determined to get my $600 worth!
the biggest vip dissapointment for me was the food. i don't really like or eat alot of meat, and i wasn't impressed with the vegetarian options (or lack of food in general after waiting on line). pretty much all i ate from the vip food tent was chips and salad... i ended up buying my food in centeroo which was a real waste of money considering what i had expected. i was really dissapointed they didn't have something as simple as fruit, which i thought would be a staple considering the weather and relative ease to provide something like that.
proximity is pretty much the same as tent only, and i couldn't see the main stage from where we were parked anyway, so that stuff didn't really come into play for me. i did enjoy vip while i was there, but in retrospect i just wouldn't do it again... there are definite advanges, but they just weren't enough for me personally to justify the price.
when you're in vip it feels completely different... in the begining i really loved the peace and quiet, and not being so cramped, and honestly thought i would never go back to regular roo camping again... but later it just felt too different from "bonnaroo" for me. i missed the chaos i guess. on sunday when i visited camp inforoo and then walked around shakedown i felt totally nostalgic and wished i had been there.
anyway, i'm glad i tried it but it's back to camp inforoo for me ;D

YES!
Sorry to see you go from VIP this year - but if your biggest thing was staying clean, just take a few pay showers - even 2 a day would be a hell of a lot cheaper than vip pricing...

OK, so after read the VIP threads I'm about 95% convinced to take the plunge. I just need to scrape up enough monies. So if all goes according to plan, I'll see you in VIP!
To seem you're a dream when you never stop And we ask you what you are Belief as one with what you believe in Travel slowly Move in circles You know time grows old in reverse
I just posted a couple of the bathrooms. And will put more up later.
I got really sick from the dust and prolly would have had to leave roo if it wasn't for the air conditioned bathrooms. (Anyone with asthma, remember your inhaler. )
The food was sucky for the most part. I don't eat meat and the choices were limited. The showers were cold sometimes. But the proximity! Being able to take in my own beer pretty much paid for the extra cost (we drinks alot of beer ). And I saw fellow inforoosters everywhere I went.
I'm def planning on it this year, a friend bought an older motorhome in good working order and said I can use it if I want...So as long as the $$$$ is still there....I am too.
Sooooo some people I know are trying to convince me to go VIP. I'm posting here because, well... I'm not convinced.
As a VIP'er you get:
Unlimited Showers Food tent serves food from 12pm-9pm Cheap Beer Short line on the highway to get in Air-conditioned Bathrooms Larger Camping Spot Close proximity to centeroo No security check to get into centeroo Bleacher Seating Thursday night party 24 hour access to centeroo
You missed the camping spots. Everyone is not cramped on top of each other. This helped keep a breeze most the time which was fantastic.
Also remember that with the food tent and the proximity you get a lot more time to see the music. It was very easy to come back and grab a burger or something and be back at the satges all in less than 15 minutes. I got to seee a lot more music this way.

am i missing anything or is that all?
not trying to be downer, but those are two things i expected that weren't the case...
the line at the hotel to check in and the line to get on-site was 5 hours for us, which was longer than when i did ga car camping in '05... the entire thing was a giant clusterfuck - hopefully they're planning on correcting it this year? cause i don't think it happened in years past... and we didn't even come from the highway, we were in manchester a day early and went right to the holiday inn.
everyone has 24 access to centeroo so i'm guessing you mean early access to the main stage? i was under the impression we were going to be allowed in there early to get good spots or just be able to cross over to the main part of centeroo, and at times we were and other times we were not (witnessed some angry vipers the first morning that happened), and instead had to leave vip and go through the main entrance/security check with the masses... really irritating.

We talked with the office folks in VIP later that weekend and found out that there parking crew did not show up on time last year. Therefore the cluster **** to get in and the RVs mixed with the tents.

yeah, I meant the main stage area oops.
Last year I was in Camp Han Solo and it took less than 10 minutes to get to the centeroo gates. Also, I think the longest we waited in line to get searched was about 10 minutes and that was right before the Police on Saturday night. Maybe we were lucky, but most of the time we had to wait in line 5 minutes AT MOST to get past security. I really didn't know it was an issue to some people lol. I dunno, maybe if our camping spot was further away in GA, I would be more into the idea of VIP. Some of my friends want to go and I want to camp with them, but I just don't think it's worth it at this point.

Well, I'm already set on going VIP this year for sure. I've paid my GA dues, and it's time for me to retire to VIP from here on out. I have a few questions though. As far as food goes, what kind of things do you remember being on the menu? Also, I hear a lot about discounted beer. What kinds and how much do you remember paying? Did you feel like you had to walk very far to get to the restrooms in VIP? I only saw three sets of johns on last year's map. Are these the shower locations as well? Thanks in advance for the information.

Creamed corn. Burgers. Salad. Chips. Brownies. All served buffet style. Line length varied depending on the time of day. I'd say it got busiest between 5:30 and 6:30. The worst part of VIP food was that when they ran out of something, it was easily a 30-45 minute wait until they got a new tray in.
The beer was discounted (I think $4 instead of $6?). All I remember was Sweetwater 420.
AC bathrooms and showers were dead center in the VIP campgrounds. There were portapotties scattered around a few places as well, and at least one other set of AC bathrooms at the far end. Not really too far a walk, no matter where you are.

The food last year was definately a step down from the year before. They must have hired a new caterer. Hopefully, this will be corrected this year.
The discounted beer is great, but we were able to take our own beer in our unsearched backpacks into Centeroo. That saves a ton of money. We would actually just carry our own opened beer right through the Hospitality Tent entrance into the Main stage area with no problem.
I'm going GA this year. Cupcake, if your friends go VIP, you can come camp with me :-)
awwwww
another question: I've read that a lot of people said the proximity to everything was worth the extra money alone. Is that because you were stuck in BFE the year before??? Or is it really that close?

it's directly behind the main stage. it has a private entrance to the main stage - so no hassle with huge lines. also, there are VIP entrances at every other entrance, so you dont have to wait in those lines if your near them.

We had a 45 minute walk to the arch in 2005 vs. a 2 minute walk from VIP. See the arch from our campsite.
Was the dust any better (or worse) in VIP this year? I was in GA right behind That Tent and the dust killed me. I had to leave early Sunday after the White Stripes.

from what i remember, there was less dust - probably since there are less people milling about. some migrated from centeroo, but all in all, it was a lot better in there...
I'm sure overall there was less dust. We were about 4 camping spots down from one of the service entrances to Centeroo. So there was a lot of traffic that in turn kicked up a lot of dust for us anyway. They did a pretty good job of keeping it watered though.
