I'm going to fly in from Oregon and take the shuttle straight into camping from the airport. This leaves me with the problem of possibly not being able to bring in my own beer. So here's my question, however absurd:
Can you put cases of beer in luggage and check it in at the airport? Can a can of beer even stand up to the pressure changes during flight, or does it just explode? Is this even allowed? Am I being way to cheap here?
Any help or commentary is greatly appreciated regarding this most serious issue.

Mmm I'm not sure about beer, but my Mum brings me 2 large bottles of Welsh Whiskey in her luggage from the UK every year. I am assuming if they allow glass bottles of liquor then they will allow beer........
I have checked beer, Ipswich IPA (the best stateside IPA imo). It's not available anywhere remotely near where I live. However, my parents live in Boston, so last time I visited, I bought a six pack and checked it. I put each bottle it three layers of sock, bubble wrapped them and put egg shell on each side. Obviously I had the room in one of my suitcases to do it, but it was well worth it. The beer made it safely and was damn good...

Yep my Mum wraps the whiskey bottles in bubble wrap and then in her clothes and it works just fine. In 10 years of her bringing it over, never had a bottle break

From real specific experience here, anytime I fly from PDX to BNA, I have to pad and duct tape my cooler full of Mirror Pond, and check it as an extra bag. I used to be able to fit a 12 pack in a huge backpack and carry it on, but they won't let me do that anymore.

i work on the tarmac everyday for us airways. beer can be shipped relatively easily (i would go with glass bottles).
my buddy just flew from phoenix to milwaukee and we packed a cooler full of about 36 bottles. i would also suggest just buying a cooler and duct taping around a few times to make sure nothing opens up/falls out. plus, you can just wheel it on over to the campsite!!
pressure should not be a problem. i haven't had a bottle break yet.
Now you just told me that friendship is all I'm forced to repair the breech in my wall Illusions and dreams, as usual, it seems Sabra girl, they've been my downfall
Do you have to pay extra to send full coolers? We're discussing the pros and cons of flying to Roo.... I'd really like to fly, and the cooler discussion is a big concern.

Ahem...YOU have to pad and duct tape your cooler? I believe I am the one who brings the Mirror Pond to you, Mr. Man.
Well, excUUUUUUUse me! Guys, I have beautiful women bring me exotic beers from faraway places. I didn't wanna make anyone jealous, because that's just not cool, but I got called out on it.

Not as long as it's within the size and weight requirements. 50 pounds on most carriers.
Last year we did the plane-shuttle. The biggest problem with that is that they drop you a long way from tent only and me and my GF had to carry TONS of gear all the way to tent only. It really sucked...
We didn't get alcohol before hand and ended up buying way overpriced alcohol at the store until we met some neighbors who were volunteers and they could take a special shuttle to Wal Mart. We bought them a case of beer to bring is back a case of beer and a case of water.
The airport shuttle DID NOT stop at the store to get alcohol.
This year we are coming Wed. night instead of Thurs morning on the red eye and staying at a hotel near the airport and we will try and get some beer and water before taking a cab back to shuttle pickup in the morning. You DO NOT want to rely on the Bonnaroo store the beer is way overpriced and I brought a lot of money but much of it went to overpriced beer and water at the store.

jeremy, there's a beer shop called "beer and tobacco store" (creative, right?) on the corner of elm hill and donelson, right by the airport. It's right where all the hotels are, so it will probably be a short walk from your hotel. They have a really good selection of beers.

Don't forget, no glass bottles are allowed. I can't tell you how much my stomach sunk when I saw them pouring out all that good beer at the search point that was in glass bottles.

hope this helped.
No glass allowed at 'roo. They will confiscate it and drink it themselves or pour it out at the check point.
Although - I am not sure if you are flying in - do they check people on the shuttles?
Last year they didn't do any searches coming off the shuttle but I think I read last year on this board that some people were searched coming off the shuttle. Maybe it's random?
there is a store right outside of the entrance. to save you the hassle just purchase it there. It may be a little more expensive but much less of a hassle.

P.S. Please bring me some Mirror Pond. Please.
Mmmmmmm..........Mirror Pond. I love Oregon. I'll definitely try to bring some. I guess we're gonna all just try and rent a van or something at the airport instead of the shuttle, but if our delicious Oregon brews aren't making it to Tennessee shelves yet, we may just have to bring an assortment of our own. We'll just try and be real sly about the bottles.
Thanks everyone for all the replies! I'm pumped up and confident now!
When carrying beer, you don't have to worry about pressure changes in an aircraft. There is very little airspace in a full can; thus no ill effects due to change in pressure. Now, if a can gets damaged or punctured in your checked bag....
The biggest problem is the extra weight and trouble to haul it around. I'd have to really, really love a particular type of beer before I would go lugging it around in my luggage.
There is *plenty* of beer available in shakedown, Centeroo, and various campsites.
So then you might say it would just be silly and unnecessary to travel around with a cooler full of cheap cases of Pabst?
ALSO- How much stuff can you actually bring with you and load on that shuttle? A van is going to cost us around $500 plus gas. We may take that shuttle after all.
We had a ton of stuff on the shuttle last year and we managed to get it all on there even though we were the last two on our bus and had to cram our bags into the luggage compartment. Carrying all your camping gear to tent only was the biggest hassle ecsp. since you are just getting your first taste of the Roo heat.

So, on the subject of bringing alcohol on an airplane... I have a question about something else. If you know what I mean, can you message me? Thaaaaanks.

If it isn't legal, don't bring it on an airplane. Your carry-ons and checked bags are subject to search by humans, scanners and K9's. TSA can (and will) open your checked bags and look through them. If the bags are locked with a non-TSA lock, they may break the locks to get in.
The TSA is looking for stuff that would compromise the safety of the flight. But I sure wouldn't want them to stumble on anything else that shouldn't be in there.

im sure things will be readily available on the farm, im hoping so for my own sake at least! as for checking a rack of beers i debated this also. think about the weight limit though...im taking the shuttle to roo from the airport but we are going to hop in a cab and take it to the kmart/liquor store right down the street to grab our goods, then back to the airport and jump on the shuttle.
