Please, please, please... Ditch your black/dark guylines. Go buy bright green, white, shiny, or a combination of the above.
Yes, you should guy out your tent. Tent tornados DO happen... but especially if you are in Tent Only you need to make sure people can see them in the dark.
Good heavens, YES. If you have a tent which is not dependent upon your guy lines for tension or support (such as a dome tent, which will stand on its own), stake as absolutely close to the tent as possible. I spent all last year tripping on guy lines to dome tents staked 3 or sometimes 4 feet from the tent.
And I'm thinking wooz got his idea from our discussion of solar lights. A few of us are debating the efficacy of using them to further make guy lines and stakes more visible at night. Jury is still out on that. But at minimum, stake as close to your tent as possible and do everything in your power (bright guy lines, certainly no black ones) to make your lines and stakes visible at night.
last year my groups tents were so close together that we had crossed guy lines all over our area. we were tripping on them before the drinking or sunset.
I ended up tying glowsticks to them at night which worked perfectly. This year Im looking for a better solution since I hate how much waste those glow sticks leave behind.
cutting a slit in a tennis ball and putting them over your stakes is also very very welcome!
Brilliant. Tennis balls are now on my list. Pretty sure they make glow-in-the-dark ones (not that they'd be terribly more visible than just the bright screaming neon ones), but I think I'll look around for some. Karma!

i'm just going to buy a giant spotlight and shine it right on my tent at all times. it'll be one of those cool ones that roams around that you can see from miles away ;D
Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a roll of the neon plastic construction flagging tape. It's a couple bucks a roll and you can tie it to the guy lines in as many places as needed.
It comes in all the neon colors and is much brighter than the pic shown.

By Friday night we also had glo-sticks tied to them. It's a good idea.
The first time I saw glow-sticks used as guy-line warnings was at Langerado this year. Thought it was a great idea, especially after tripping on the lines for the tent right before the marked one.
It is bright orange yellow in daylight and lights up like a laser when a light hits it.
I also use an 18" laynard loop of this to leash my car keys and flashlight to my belt incase they fall out of my pocket while dancing or sitting with my knees up.

El Wire!!! It's fairly cheap and unlike glowsticks it's re-usable, just need some AA batteries. Wrap your lines with it and they'll be lit up all night.
This is for a sample kit with short lengths but they have longer pieces too.

So, I see where you put the batteries, but doesnt it show an outlet plug? Are you using a generator? I absolutely LOVE the idea of these, but i wont be bringing a generator.

I had my first encounters with these at Langerado. It was not cool at all b'cause a Roo it was never noticed. Almost any where u go especially wal-mart they sell that cheap orange tape-like stuff. farmers use it for barbed wire
I have to share this. In 06 I had to park up front in the day handicap parking. There was really nobody else in there. So I set up a 10x10 roof only pavilion with a pole in each corner. Each pole had 2 guys. I was the only one in the lot but it was a thruway for lots of folks to get to their campground. I arrived back at the structure after MMJs riveting late night set to witness a true roo moment.
Snagged on 3 of the 4 corners were zombie like humans. Each of them would slowly walk in what ever direction they happened to be facing until they hit the guy. They would mumble some profanity take 3 or 4 steps backwards and then march right back into the guy. Cuss again and do it all over. THIS WAS HAPPENING ON 3 GUYS AT THE SAME TIME> I honestly have never laughed so hard in all my life. Finally one by one I turned each of them in a different direction and sadly watched them disappear into the masses.
We use these to mark snowmobile trails, for the trip back home. Cut them up in one foot pieces and tie them to a branch. Beer and snowmobiling equals getting lost at 2 in the morning without them. ;D
