OK I am starting this thread for people to tell other roo goers who they should see if they are not familiar with a certain artist. I will start and keep it to one recommendation.
Dresden Dolls.
I wasn't really into the album but I went to see a show and WOW. They put a lot of effort into the show. The drummer is really good and the girl who sings + plays some instruments is also greaat. They put on a little drama performance complete with make up. The songs are very strong and with much emotion. Its definitly worth checking out while you are there. Even if they are not a band you would normally listen to I think most people will enjoy a really superb show. I guess my review isn't so good but it's the band I would recommend as something new to checkout.
They're not exactly unknowns, but I'm most excited about Gomez. Their debut album Bring It On is the best debut album by any band since Led Zep I. Yeah, that's right, I said it. They've got a great combination of blues and rock- two singers who could lead any other band, great rhythms, smart lyrics, and overall a great band. I've never seen them live, but have heard lots of recordings; they pull it off well.
And obviously, if you don't know Radiohead, well, you'd better get started. The Bends is one of my all-time favorites.
MMJ is the other "must-know" band in my book. Just go to their web site and watch them play One Big Holiday on Conan. That'll get you hooked.
To respond to the post, all I know about the Dresden Dolls is their music videos (watch Subterranean on MTV2). They're at the bottom of my list. But that's the beauty of Bonnaroo... variety. To each his/her own.
