I really like the production on the record on first listen, though Ezra seems to do that "ooweeoo" vocal run in every song. Some pretty cool percussion elements as well.
Don't think the songs are as good as the debut, but the thing sounds amazing.

It really takes a lot from the Discovery project rotsam did. The thing just doesn't seem as cohesive as the first one did, and you're right the songs just don't hit me the same way the debut did.
^ I also love the DDBB album, would probably make my top ten of the decade if I ever got around to making one. And the Chris Potter album is excellent as well. One of the better jazz-rock-funk fusion albums that has come out in a while. They do an interesting cover of "it ain't me,babe". Craig Taborn's Rhodes playing is wonderfully funky throughout the album.

Andy, if you liked that Gonzales album so much why did you only rate it three stars on lala? Just curious; I'll be checking it out anyway, since you and Druid are both raving.
As for jj... it wasn't what I was expecting. In a way that's certainly a good thing, but what it was felt a bit superficial to me. I think that was partly due to the very simple 3- or 4-chord progressions, which is often a hang-up for me. It also didn't help that I had just before listened to Sondre Lerche and Paul Simon, who each like to use tons of complicated and lengthy chord progressions, so that made jj's music seem overly simplistic by comparison.

2 reasons. 1. I had only made it through track 3. 2. I hadn't had my second cup of coffee yet.
