weir has always been my least favorite member of the grateful dead. i don't like many of his songs even. (truckin' and sugar magnolia are exceptions)
I love Phil he is all about the music. Bobby is to worried about their GDP label, and losing money(i.e. no SBDs on archive.org) Both Ratdog and Phil put on smokin shows. But you gotta love the Bobby songs. Black Throated Wind Greatest Story Ever Told Weather Report Suite >Let It Grow Looks Like Rain One more Saturday Night Thorowing Stones On the Road Again Cassidy Stuck inside of Mobile....(dylan) When I Paint my Masterpiece (dylan) and many others.
heres a great show from 74. its regarded as one of phils better shows from that era. they are all on fire though. killer let it grow>spanish jam>eotw. an almost 30 minute playing in the band. nearly every song they play is in the running for the best ive ever heard them play it.
damn i wish id known about archives.org before they stopped letting you download these shows.
Ratdog doesn't do it for me like a Phil and Friends show. Not that I dislike Ratdog, but it's just not as good. I like Phil better than Bob anyway, so that may be part of it, but I've always had alot more fun at Phil shows.
Yo Dude I was at Vibes too and thought the Rhythm Devils and then Rat Dog was sweet. Throw Hornsby in on the keys and look out. Although I look forward to seeing many different artists and hopefully get turned on to something new(to me) I love the dead.
ya that was a great show. rhythm devils did put on an awesome show! they played a couple weeks later in toledo and jen durkin from dbb was with them. if i had known that i would have gone for sure. but i missed it. and rat dog was great too. damn weather though. i enjoyed the light show for ratdog but really wanted to see the everyone orchestra. that was one hell of a storm man. i was in a condition for dancing, lights, and music not for sitting in a car wiggin out as lightning crased all around.. but jamming the dead helped. our tent was filled with water. but it let up later and we managed to have a great time til sunup with our neighbors. that whole weekend was great. martin sexton is the man. i loved deep banana blackout. fuzz is a maniac on guitar. i was right up front for that one. aod and tlg were good too. i cant wait for this year. cant wait to check out seaside park. looks like an awesome place for a fest.
yeah what a great weekend! We got soaked saturday night also. I slept in a chair under a shade tent and woke up drenched. I was really looking forward to going again this year. A friend of mine throws the Midwest Reggae fest and this year is the 16th annual. Last year it was a week before the gathering of the vibes so i went to both. This year it is at Nelson Ledges the same weekend as Vibes. I still haven't figured out what I'm gonna do. Peace!
ya thats a tough call. i hate when nelson ledges has stuff the same weekend as other fests. they actually have a fest bonnaroo weekend. pink floyd and zepplin tribute weeekend thing. i cant imagine many people being there. most of the regulars will be at roo.
but i cant pass up the vibes. and certainly not ratdog or DBB!!! and im excited to see buddy guy again also. but bob weir assures that ill be there unless phil and frineds is playing a different fest the same weekend ;D

with the police getting back together, the stooges, van halen, and whoever else, i think that should send a message to any bands that are broken up to forget about all their differences and just get back together, maybe bands getting back together like to wait for a special anniversary or something, i heard the police wouldn't have gotten back together last year, but this was the anniversary year, do the dead have any type of anniversary coming up soon...?
