But as far as finding a replacement, there aren't too many bands with the similar fan base that compare to Tool and are relativly as popular as NIN is.

I'd love for NIN to headline, saw them for 20$ this past year, they rocked. Although i havnt seen tool, i'd guarentee NIN puts on a better show visually. They were all really into it, and they had some cool lighting and tricks like that. I think the only problem might be that NIN's fans are more hardcore then tool's, because of their earlier stuff, but i also doubt most of them would travel to bonnaroo.

Tools visuals are like nothing you or anyone has ever seen before. Much better than Nails although Nails is great.

Tool's whole show is their light and video show, the band just plays in the shadows and Maynard stands in the back of the stage rarely evr coming to the front of the stage

I think Tool's light show is better, but i've heard the band is pretty lifeless, which is the opposite of NIN. But since i havnt seen Tool, that is a pretty bold statement, so i'll correct myself and say that i think NIN is one of few bands that could rival Tool's performances. For anyone who saw NIN's last tour, who doesnt think that chainlink light show wouldnt be sweet at bonnaroo.

NIN would be a more convincing headliner than Tool, I think. I love NIN, and Reznor is one of the few musical geniuses of our generation. That said, I have been to a Nine Inch Nails concert, and I have seen video of a Tool concert, and I feel that Tool's visuals would blow NIN's out of the water. The musicians in Nine Inch Nails don't move much, the bands are about the same in that respect, but Tool is more visual, while NIN remains on the plane of SOUND. The silkscreen is insane, but Tool is more into straight up crazy visuals. Anyone who says NIN as a band is more active than Tool either hasn't seen a video of one band's concert, or they're just deluded. With both bands, it's about the music, not who's playing it.

^ I live in Knoxville, and we were the first show on the tour. Still, it was incredible! (The shots of the monkeys fighting and the money being printed...the father with his child and the missle launcher in the desert, and then the oil dykes and the money beng printed...)
But, the first stop of the tour is NOT the best way to see the band. I dig. NIN is fucking incredible. The Fragile was the best album of our time, in my opinion. I just think Tool's visual aspect is more important than NIN's. (Although I think NIN is a more important band than Tool...does that make sense?)

Definatly, i can agree that tool puts on a better visual show, but i'd say NIN puts on a better physical show. I wish tool did, i dont think its about focusing on the music at their shows, when i see the musicians up there into their music, it gets me into the music too.
now that i think about it i dont think nin would be good for bonnaroo at all. tool and nin are among my favorite bands and i think tool playing there is great, but nin idk...

NIN is still a religious experience. I loved that concert, it was amazing. I may be spoiled from watching tapes of their tour for the Downward Spiral, with Manson, when they were all just depraved maniacs, and their shows really were go-for-broke every night. He's calmed down (good for him and us), and I respect that. I just miss where NIN was all caked in flour and accidentally hitting each other with flying keyboards.
I would rather listen to NIN than Tool, but I'm glad that Tool is playing the main stage...I just hope they play their spaced out stuff, like 46 and 2, Eulogy, and etc. Sober too. Anyone?

NIN last tour was amazing, no violence (pits), amazing visuals, and one killer show....i'd take it, but TooL is where its at.

Yeah, I feel like Aenima was their best work. I just hope they prove everyone wrong, mostly. I have faith in them to realize what they're doing, and where they're performing...think they'll break out one of those legendary "Bonnaroo-only" sets?

I'd be very disapointed if both Tool AND The Police didnt put on legendary bonnaroo only sets. Neither really get this opportunity much, and i'd love to see them make the most of it. Sadly i have the feeling that The Police are more likely to take advantage of it then Tool.

Why is it that I get that feeling too?
Hearing Thom Yorke say "now this is what we call a festival" affected me more than maybe anything they could have played last year. I hope Tool gets it right.

I may get flammed for this, but honestly..I think The Police are better musicians than Tool. They just play so tight, and their songs are a lot more intricate then they sound. That being said, they are all great musicians.

^ You're probably right.
But who cares?
It shouldn't be about best/worst. It should be about like/dislike. What do you like to hear? f**k technicality, give me soul. The Police have mucho soul, but I'd prefer that nothing got blown out of proportion so early.
^^I could probably agree, ziggy. I just love Tool too much to agree lol. NIN though... Live, I haven't seen anything that has touched their energy. So energetic, yet subdued. Argh! It makes me wish the new NIN album and tour were out now! I saw them in Atlanta in late '05, only time I've seen em, seing as though I was like 15 when the Fragile came out, but Christ what an amazing show... Opener was the now defunct Death From Above 1979, amazing stuff, then QOTSA, which I never have been a big fan of, but was a great show, and then a 2 and a half hour NIN set. It was heaven...
