i was wondering how many of you caught Dweezil's ZPZ Tour de Frank this year. i caught the montreal show and it was one of the best shows i've seen all year.
anyways, here's to hoping that ZPZ gets added to the lineup. who's with me? a little Nappy never hurt anything.
Thursday night? I don't think so, it seemed like that tour was a pretty big deal. Apart from when they'd play, I would LOVE to see them added. Being young I obviously never had a chance to see Frank, and by the time I found out about the ZPZ tour there was too little time to make the money.

I LOVE Frank but, i've been a little skeptical about this whole thing. I've been worried about how Dweezil could ever possibly do him justice. Frank was one of a kind and I just don't want anything to tarnish his legacy. Granted, I haven't seen a ZPZ show yet so I can't really comment or criticize but, i'm just a little worried. Frank is the only man who has ever been capable of sending-me off on a bad trip.....and, trust me, i've straight-out dared many musicians to try. He was one of the most amazing song-writer, producer, GUITARISTS that have ever lived and I guess that i've put him on a somewhat unapproachable pedestal. So, I do understand where my uninformed hesitation comes from but, I just can't help it. That being said, I think that Bonnaroo would be the perfect setting in wich to give it a shot! I mean, if you think about it the right way.....any given show can be considered a freebie, wether you dig it or not. Plus, Roo would be the most ultimately appreciative crowd imaginable for ashow of this nature! I would definitely be "front & center" for this addition....with my fingers crossed!

as probably the hugest zappa fan this side of prague, i was entirely hesitant about the ZPZ show, but let me tell you, i was entirely blown away. just think of it as the best zappa cover band you can ever see. plus you've got napoleon murphy brock, terry bozzio and steve vai up there to give it a sense of authenticity. dweezil's no slouch on guitar, either.

I would love to see ZPZ there this year, but it just doesn't seem too likely. I get the impression that the Zappa family Trust thinks ZPZ is too big a deal to share a bill with anyone, and Dweezil doesn't seem to like the idea of a bunch of drugged-out hippies groovin to his fathers music. It's a shame, b/c I think more people at roo could stand to hear Frank's music (I did see a few Zappa t-shirts the last few years), but I just don't think they have any interest in playing something like roo. But karma to you for the suggestion, and I hope the ZFT proves me wrong and brings it this summer!

Took me about 2 weeks to realize it, but ZPZ is on tour! And guess when it starts, the day after bonnaroo...... Sorry if this has already been posted. I'm checking them out in atleast columbus, maybe the other ohio shows too, Zappa's music is awesome, and from the sounds of it ZPZ is almost as good.

i was fortunate enough to score a ticket to the zpz show at the warfield in san francisco in june '06. fabulous show, i think they would be great at bonnaroo. i never saw frank live, however i've seen video footage. dweezil and the band does a really good job, but i think it's safe to say dweezil doesn't have _all_ of the stage presence that frank had. he sure does play and lead the band in a very good way, though!
if you want to hear the dweez and FZ playing together, pick up a copy of YCDTOSA vol.3 and it has the first time dweezil played on stage with frank. he plays the lead on sharleena and absolutely shreds it to pieces....oh, and i think he was 12(or somewhere right around there).

ZPZ is playing at the 10K Lakes Festival in MN. That is just as hippie if not moreso than Bonnaroo.

Note the date of that post, well before the 10KLF announcement. I'm glad ZPZ proved me wrong on that one.
Yes, Frank hated almost everyone, including hippies. I was more referring to Frank's (and even moreso Dweezil's) distain for drug use. While I know everyone at Roo isn't heffed up on goofballs, Music fests in general do have a reputation of attracting drug users. I don't agree w/ either on that generalization, and am very glad to see the ZPZ making US festival apperances. Now they just need to make it to the best music fest in the USA: Bonnaroo!!!!!!!!!

I saw ZPZ on Halloween night in NYC this last year and it was amazing!
I am personally an insanely huge Zappa fan and was so pleased with the return of his live shows to NY. His son is absolutely doing him justice and all Franks previous band members are astonishing! Amazing show
Although i doubt that they will play the roo, i would LOVE to see that and it would be my favorite show of the weekend!

That definatly sucks^, but im still psyched for ZPZ. Looking at the dates, it seems to me that Zappa was pretty much the first modern jamband (modern jambands dont sound like the dead). Am i just ignorant thinking that, or ignorant for not noticing till now? ;D

I think you're definitely right, but not ignorant. It's an abstraction, really. They didn't jam like jambands today jam, and they didn't jam like jazz groups like electric Miles jammed either. They jammed in a totally unique way, all to the vision of one superior man. My mom once recounted going to see Zappa in the late 60's, and how she and her friends were all expecting a "freak out" type show, and it turned out to be one of his first jazz shows instead, and what a shock it was. Man, to be a part of all that...

Yeah, he has a lot of different stuff. I was listening to you cant do that on stage anymore vol.2 today and was like, wait a minute, this sounds like an umphrey's show with more instruments.

YDTOASA v. 2 is seriously one of the best albums/zappa lineups ever. the whole roxy band with napoleon, george, ruth, tom fowler & chester thompson is easily my fauvorite lineup ever. for any band.
