I cannot wait to hear Aenima, hopefully we will get a treat and they will play something off of undertow, and Parabol/a. Parabol/a + the video has the be the most trippy thing they have.
+5 karma to you saget for that link. When they play Lateralus I'm pretty sure I will either; s*** my pants, or just strait die.
"Over Thinking, Over Analyzing... SEPARATE THE BODY FROM THE MIND"
Besides a live version of Lateralus I am especially excited to hear the ending part of Vicarious live.
Thanks. That's one of the better videos out there. I remember I saw them live for the first time at the Fox Theater (very intimate, seats 2500 max). I was literally blown away by the energy at the climax of Lateralus.
i am hoping they do something special for this like they did for the first coachella. i definitely expect a longer set than usual. and even though i don't do any drugs, i hope they do the freak out "drug songs", third eye and rosetta stoned, because i wanna see some hippies minds exploding.
For those that have seen them, do they play anything from Opiate anymore? I got into Tool "way back when" and would love to hear some of that stuff.
they played the song opiate last tour but that's about it as far as them playing anything off that album. personally i'm hoping to hear atleast 1 song off either opiate or undertow (besides sober) but their show has evolved from the old days and it's way more chill nowadays so i'm guessing a they'll play alot from lateralus
I'm sorry if this has been covered already, but does anyone have any links to recent, post-10,000 days soundboard recordings? I can't seem to find any, most of the Tool bootlegs I find are pretty mediocre quality. Any help will be greatly appreciated and karmaticaly rewarded...

I'm fairly certain Tool doesn't allow that type of thing. They do have a CD called Salival that is live. I would look into that.

Tool doesn't even allow audience recordings (other than 'Roo, of course ;D ), so soundboards would be super-mega rare indeed.

I hear they are VERY trippy. Who's the Inforooster with the most first-hand experience????
Everyone else has basically said what I wanted to say.
Wow... that is awesome. Their new stage show looks out-of-hand. I can't wait. ;D
I don't know if I'm more excited to see the show or all of the new Tool fans afterwards. There are going to be a lot of blown minds from people that had no expectations going in.

can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, so if so pardon me ;D
otherwise, i've been somewhat concerned that that is exactly what could end up happening, but not in a good way. while i certainly would like to hear those songs, i'm wondering what kind of effect they'll have on the crowd. because i don't know about you, but there's nothing that kills my vibe at a show faster then seeing the medical personnel or security pushing their way in and realizing that what i'm hearing is someone having a very not good time. let's face it, there's always plenty of people who are overdoing it and its amazing how contagious that kind of negative vibe can be, especially in a crowd. it won't take more then seeing like 2 or 3 to ruin the show for me, if it happens...
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
^ I've thought that allot too, it was actually the first thing that went through my head when my friend called me and told me Tool was playing. It's a really complex thing to go into, I think there's a possibilty it might could happen. But realistically, I think that overall, Tool can keep the mood up, and do an extra special job (they have to reallise the significance of this performance) to kind of keep up what they do for the fans of Tool on a regular basis, while also catering to the much more laid back Roo headlining vibe. I mean, this is the headliner for one night, over half of the entire attendance will be there. But if someone starts freakin out, like psychedelicaly, it's all the person, they're the ones who can control it, not a band on stage. This is definatley the most interesting thing about Roo this year.

no disagreement here. i'm not saying tool should bring any less than 100% of their style of show, i just hope people can take it. and, though this is going to sound selfish, i hope anyone who can't take it isn't in my field of vision/hearing... i hate seeing that sh-t, i always end up feeling terrible for the person for a while.

I agree, it sucks almost more for the people around the one freakin out. Like when I saw that albino guy last year on Thursday, it made me feel awful. Lost in the sea of tents screaming I'm gonna die, then colapsing on the ground. That's not something you wanna see on some caps.
I really hope they play those kind of songs, not because I want to see people get fucked with, but because they are the best ones they have. Rosetta stoned, Parabol/a, Third Eye, those would all be kickass to see. I really hope they don't change their show because of the effect it will have on people that decide to indulge some things, they really did choose to see tool while indulging, hopefully they are ready.

Since Tool is headlining, do you think it could draw a different crowd? I've never been to 'Roo but I'm sure moshing is pretty much non-existant. I personally don't like it, and it is definetly not the Roo way, but I can definetly see some people who came exclusively for Tool trying to mosh, or will be moshing. I went to Tool last September, and a few fights broke out around me, and few pits. I really hope there isn't anything like that at Bonnaroo. It would be a total vibe killer.

Very true. I think some people might not really know what they are gonna be getting into though. I myself will be chillin with a ice cold brew watchin, I don't think I'd be able to handle other indulgences while seeing Tool for the first time. Also I want to have a clear memory of the show, well fairly clear memory at least.

Tool DOES NOT like it when people mosh at their shows. That is more the Ozzfest, death metal type crowd. Tool's crowd is different. I've seen instances where the band will stop playing if they see that a mosh pit has broken out or that people aren't completely focused on the music.
Tool is all about providing top-flight music along with an 'A-grade' visual experience. They do not go for goons just trying to start sh#t, and they won't hesitate to call them out if they see it happening.
To answer your other question... I absolutely do not think it will bring a different crowd. There is no way a bunch of metal heads are going to pay for a 4-day pass just to see one band. They can see Tool in one of their other shows if they are that big into Tool. I remember people worrying the same thing last year about Radiohead... whether it would bring in a different crowd... well, in Radiohead's case, they probably did, because Radiohead fans also tend to be very well-rounded in their musical tastes, so that wasn't a bad thing.
I just don't see a bunch of metal heads lining up for one band that really isn't even hardcore metal and a band that doesn't like a 'rough' crowd.
