There are alot of artists out there who can play their asses off, but still make terrible music. It's a crying shame. They should have tried to be studio musicians.
Whatever, I guess they made their dough doing it. Alls well that ends w.........
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
no offense, cause i'm sure that you're cool, but there needs to be an intervention here. we need to come confiscate your cds. anything that i can do to help you with this problem, you let me know. i'm here for you, buddy.
lol, I don't own cds from any of those guys. Most of my cds tend to be of the classic rock, heavy metal or hard rock variety. I'd probably buy cds from those guys if they were cheap though.
Oh and I like John Mayer too. Just throwing that out there because of the last few posts.
What cds do you suggest I fill my collection with?
Skinny Puppy, Thrill Kill Kult, Foetus, LPD, Michael Jackson, Prince, Metallica, White Zombie. All bands that could understandably be considered "shitty." But I still like it, so who am I to wave my finger, I must have been out my head.

In regards to john mayer... while I'm not a big fan of his solo stuff, the John Mayer Trio is pretty good... They do a killer cover of "Wait Till Tomorrow".
Oh and Prince... while a very good musician and artist.... he's all around just too creepy.
Skinny Puppy, Thrill Kill Kult, Foetus, LPD, Michael Jackson, Prince, Metallica, White Zombie. All bands that could understandably be considered "shitty." But I still like it, so who am I to wave my finger, I must have been out my head.
No way Skinny Puppy, Metallica and White Zombie could be considered shitty. I know a lot of people hate Metallica and everything, but they made 3 of the greatest heavy metal albums in history...so who cares if St. Anger was terrible?
White Zombie and Skinny Puppy are both very sold, and they basically sowed the seeds for the uprise of heavy rock and industrial for the early 90s.
And if you don't like Thriller and Purple Rain, you should probably stop attempting to like music now.

I just think most of the guys in Metallica are complete assholes. I could really go on a huge rant here, but I won't. They've made some great tunes, but they're still gigantic pieces of sh*t. I've never been a huge fan, and even I was surprised at how bad St Anger was. Supposedly Lars really pushed for the way the drums were tracked and mixed. Geez, You're Metallica, not some Nu Metal band. Stick with your sound. Now since that album sucked instead of waiting 2 years for another shitty one, fans will have to wait 6. And, they're assholes. Did I mention that?

I tend to not judge musicians for anything other than their music. A LOT of musical artists are assholes, really. But what makes you say that Metallica are assholes? Please tell me not just the whole Napster thing? (Which was completely misconstrued by the media and public). And the alcoholism....but you'll have that with almost any heavy metal band.
Metallica's good stuff: And Justice For All (best metal album ever) Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets.
The rest I could do without, and yes, St. Anger was absolutely f'n terrible. And I could care less if musicians are assholes, if they make the goods, I don't care, honestly.

Misconstrued by the media? The assholes fought a useless war for years. They became extremely vocal while it was a hot topic, then shyed away from it when they realized it was a losing cause. You don't b*tch out when the guns are drawn. You don't sit at the forefront of a cause, stick it to the people who made you, then expect people to forget when your cause takes a dive. You must not remember the time period correctly, because they were very willing poster boys for the anti-piracy movement. Chalk the LA Riots up to the media, not Metallica being assholes. Honestly, I can't speak for the entire band, but Lars Ulrich makes me sick to my stomach. He's one of the pretentious, self-centered f*cks I've ever heard in my life.
Some people just rub you the wrong way. I have no problem not supporting bands that don't appreciate their fans. You'll never see me every buying a Modest Mouse cd or attending one of their concerts. It doesn't mean I won't listen to their music, I just won't give them any money. We're going back into a time where artists actually have to work for their fans respect again, because we have more options to simply not support them now.

Miggest misconception involving Metallica: They are anti-piracy.
No, they are not anti-piracy. They were extremely pissed off that people were putting unfinished demos they had been workin on up on Napster. They even openly said (although no one really seemed to notice this part) That they don't care if you download their already released stuff. They were just very upset that music that they didnt even get a chance to finish working on got spread onto Napster.
So you can say that they sued their fans if you want...I'll just say they tried to get a company shut down because people leaked stuff onto it long before it was supposed to be released to the public.

Yeah, kind of a knee jerk, fire into the crowd reaction from such nice guys. They tried using it as a podium to catapult their celebrity. A crying shame they miscalculated. Maybe not causing a fuss and protecting your material a little better would have been a better path. The whole "we don't care if you download" thing came after much backpedaling on the subject when they realized it was a useless cause and it made them look like d*cks.

Metallica? Trying to...capapult their celebrity? They're the best selling metal band of all-time. They have one of the best selling albums of all-time. They have one of the most recognizable hard rock songs of all-time. I don't think they're too worried about their "celebrity".
It really sounds like you need to get some of your facts straightened out and think this thing through more.
Mraz is good stuff, I think the dude gets a bad rap hes written some really good pop rock songs, he may be ripping off Dave/g. Love/ hell even mayer to some extent but hes has his own style and hes fun to listen to especially on a warm day with the windows down.

What are you? A Metallica lobbyist? It's a matter of opinion buddy.
Yes, their star has dimmed. Have you not been paying attention? They alienated a large chunk of their fanbase due to this incident, and then compounded the situation by releasing a terrible album. These guys are entering the twilight of their careers, and they really need to remember why they started making music in the first place.
It's not just Metallica. Like I said, the current direction "the industry" is heading in is good for music. Bands like Metallica might actually have to work for their fans respect again.
I'm perfectly "chill". This is a message board used for discussion. Just because you don't like my opinions doesn't mean I'm being a d*ck. So here's some POSITIVE karma for you, because you're sharing your views. I respect that. Just because we don't see eye to eye doesn't mean someones wrong.

We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this

James Hetfield is a fucking meathead, Lars is a prick, Kirk can't solo (his vibrato sucks), and the bassist is dead. Assholes.
Haha, but I like their first four albums quite a bit. They are asses though. I read a article about how they want their next album to be really commercial so they can "reclaim the radio".
Mraz is a pussy.
Oh and why wouldn't you buy a Modest Mouse album? Because Isaac Brock likes drugs?

They let off some huge rant late last year about how they could care less about their fans and how they mean sh*t to them. I believe an artist should create things based on their own taste, not for fans. On the same hand, you don't bite the hand that feeds.
Most bands do everything for their fans, which is the reason why bands who don't stick out like a sore thumb these days.
Drugs plays no part into my liking of a band. It would be thoroughly hypocritical of me to do so. During some of my more troubled years I could have put most of these guys to shame.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
Lots of bands can't stand their fans. Frank Zappa hated his and made fun of them a lot, both on and off stage. Kurt Cobain hated how his idolized him. I've never been a rock star, but I think I could see how fans suck. That said though, making fun of your fans is one things, suing them is quite another.
I dunno, I'm not trying to start anything. I personally could care less what an artist thinks. They're all just people, and people sometimes suck. Doesn't take away from the music for me, nor does it influence where my money goes for shows or discs. That's just me though. Omar and Cedric could call my mother a not-so-nice name from stage, and I'd still make Mars Volta shows.
But as for Metallica, yeah, douches all around. And Lars is a VERY overrated drummer taboot. And it's been over a decade since they recorded a half-decent song, let alone a record.

Both flip flopped on the subject alot, but never EVER lost sight of the fact that their fans are what made their careers and artistic visions possible.
