dog fighter not liking the stripes is cool we all have opinions I love wilco hold steady and decemberists as well but asserting that Jack white isn't as good as folks in your dorm at the guitar is absurd. your kidding right unless of course you live with Hendrix and even then its getting closer every day.

just because Rolling Stone said Jack White was one of the 15 greatest guitarists or whatever does not make it true. i could have written the riff to "Seven Nation Army" and half of his songs. he just isn't anything special. I mean, he isn't piss poor but he doesn't deserve guitar god status.
I won't be seeing Tool, or probably the Police for that matter. I have nothing against these bands, but headliner time is when i like to go back to camp, eat some food, drink some beers, get the head right for latenight. I also want to avoid Gov't Mule; I've seen Warren Haynes way too many times.

I kinda agree(which is why I hope the Superjam is late afternoon on Sunday again) but I hope nobody is taking anything that Rolling Stone says as relevant.

Not playing devil's advocate or anything (cause I'll agree Jack White != guitar god) though I am a White Stripes fan, I am honestly curious who you do consider guitar god status? Just trying to gauge what you are comparing against and what your taste run to (other than Wilco). Obviously RS has a, how shall we say, economic interest, in what they print.....
its not about the riffs or how fast he plays it, its the feeling and emotion. sure i could have made up the seven nation army riff as well, i also could have made up all of zeppelins riffs, it doesnt make them not great... sorry im rambling, if you dont like the white stripes thats your opinion and your all entitled to it.
and the one band i will probably avoid will be wolfmother (and fountains of wayne)

This year doesn't have any glaring "oh my god what the hell are they doing here" type bands like last year. But I'll be avoiding String Cheese and STS9.....just not my style.
I don't see the whole Jack White is guitar god thing either. I've never seen him live, but I listened to all the White Stripes albums (my brother is a fan) and none of them did anything for me. I do like that video someone posted of him on Conan (the one where he did john the revelator at the end). If there is no big conflict to see him, I'll check him out and give him a chance.......just not expecting much.

Well you don't obligatorily get a guitar god each decade you know. But one this decade? The guy from Between the Buried and Me. Jesus, the parts he plays in Selkies: The Endless Obsession are just MINDBLOWING.
The White Stripes live DVD is spectacular. Anyone doubting Jack White's guitar prowess should look there first. Also the new single does a pretty good job of putting some different styles into 4 minutes (especially for a single). Also I can't wait to see Tom Morello.
The only band/people I'm absolutely avoiding are Dieks Bentley and the Decemberists.
Front row for Ween if I can get it! Looks like there's going to be some open spots.

I won't be trying to miss anything on purpose, even bands I think I don't like. It would be great to stumble onto an act I had a notion that I disliked only to be proven wrong.
I've sent in my application to the Real World. So I'm hoping to hear back from that. I'm putting A LOT of my eggs into that basket, the MTV basket. I'm also thinking about getting a gun, and dealing crack. Being a crack dealer. Not like a mean crack dealer, but like... like a nice one. Kinda friendly like, "hey, what's up guys? Want some crack?"

did you see that d jr is touring again ... they were on tv last week also, late night ... they are playing a downtown sort of fest here in denver for only 10 bucks, but i will be at wakarusa that weekend or is it the roo, not sure .. cr****
I have had many debates, dicussions, arguments, etc. about what makes a person a great guitarist, and I have found that we all have different criteria. Some of us value creativity and innovation as well as talent/skill, technique, and other things. I value creativity and innovation more than skill and other things in most respects, which is why Tom Morello is my favorite guitarist. I think Jack White deserves to be classified as a guitar god, and he rightfully deserves his spot on the Rolling Stone list. He is extremely skilled, and he has a pretty unqiue style about him as well. I know he writes some simple songs, like Seven Nation Army, but that doesn't mean they aren't great. Kurt Cobain wasn't 11th all time on the RS list because he had skill, he was on there because he could create powerful songs with simplicity. dogfighter28, I can't convince you that Jack White is a great guitarist, its a matter of opinion, as is your taste in music. I respect your straight forward opinion...it takes some courage to post about a popular band like that.
btw I might as well throw in two videos of Jack playing to back up my argument:
I can't belive that only one other person so far has said "The Hold Steady". I heard that Little Hoodrat Friend song and it's like the suckiest song I've ever heard. If anybody can turn me around on this, let me know which song I should listen to.
Also, I'm suprised by the amont of people that say they dislike RX Bandits. They're so different from anything else that is on the lineup and they seem like they'd put on a good show. Never seen them live but I love the albums.

That really doesnt change my opinion. For a blues-style guitarist, he's really just about average. No way anyone should think he's close to being a "guitar god". Same goes even moreso for Kurt Cobain. To be, before you can be called a guitar god, you should learn to play the guitar...and I think it'll be a while before ol' Kurt does that.
