Against. I'm not a fan, but that's not why. Why is because of the importance of variety, especially in that no competition headline slot, that's what I think

Think about it guys...
Remember that Pearl Jam was suppost to headline one of the nights but they decided to do their European Tour instead...
In other words, Widespread Panic got sloppy seconds. WSP took their headlining spot. All they are is just a backup. If Pearl Jam was going to play there would be no WSP.

I think I'd rather have WSP but I'm not their biggest fan. I think I'll check it out and it will probably be a pretty good show. I might try and do one last exploration of Roo before I leave though.
I'm not someone who wants to see them every year either, especially as the only option, but the question is pretty leading. ("taking up a headlining spot") I'm fine with bands playing year upon year but it would be nice to have a different option, especially when they are headlining two nights!
Well, they don't take up a headline spot the years they aren't there.
I agree that '05 was overkill with them headlining two nights, but I like the 2 out of every 3 years frequency, and when they are there, they definitely should be a headliner...I feel anyone chosen as a headliner should be able to fill a 3 1/2 - 4 hour time slot. Except for Phil we didn't get that last year, and I'd be shocked and amazed if anyone but WSP does it this year.
I respectfully disagree with thecardercamp - I think if Pearl Jam was there this year, WSP would be too, but Tool would not be.

I'm not a Panic fan, but I do think they deserve a headlining spot. They are a Bonnaroo institution, and even if this board may be short on fans I can assure there will be plenty of people at their set who showed up just to see Panic and a few other bands. I do agree that 2 nights for ANY headliner is overkill.

well not every year, but im all for a little panic every now and then. personally (and i know im gonna get smitted for saying this) id rather see Pearl Jam take TOOL 's headlining spot than Panics.

Im in no way doubting Panic's talent/fanbase/or right to have a headlining spot, I just wish Superfly would switch it up a little. This will be the 6th Bonnaroo and Panic has had 5 headlining spots. (Counting 2 in 05)

Panic has headlined Bonnaroo several times but NOT EVERY year. Panic is a good jam band, and Bonnaroo has mostly been a jam band festival in the past. Panic has a good following. Look at there summer schedule; Headlining Saturday night at Wakarusa Music Festival, sold out shows left and right throughout the summer.
Now, last time in 2005 when they headlined I thought they did a great job. And not only that but they had a bunch of musicians (friends) come on stage and play with them. Bob Weir - Warren Haynes just to name a couple. Very unselfish band
I thought in 2005 Dave Matthews was unbelievable, and even outplayed Panic. So it's not like I do not look at both sides of the fence.
Obviously I like Panic so opinion is going to be slightly biased. I am just glad people are still coming and having a good time. That's what it's all about.

i don't understand the big deal. WSP sells out so many shows and tours all the time. they are the 2nd biggest band of the weekend behind the police.
No way, The White Stripes are definitely bigger. Tool, Franz Ferdinand and Ben Harper are others who might be too.
I don't know, I think it will be close because you need to take into account the type of people that attend bonnaroo. If it was a normal everyday concert then ya, it probably would be White Stripes and others, but I am guessing (I haven't been to a bonnaroo yet and I guess what I say should hold no value) more people at bonnaroo listen to WSP, GD, and Phish than your normal, everyday person.

I'm not a real big Panic fan but, they are (without question) a VERY good band. I just think that Bonnaroo needs to shake things up a bit. SuperFly always says that they try not to have the same bands play year after year. I think that's a great idea but, it's simply not true. It's seems like we always have a Phish, Dead, DMB or WSP related band. It's getting a little predictable and even cliche, in my opinion. Change it up. Keep it fresh. Make it challenging.
Not trying to offend anyone. Just saying what's on my mind.
I like the format they have now. 1 big jamband headliner, 1 classic rock headliner, 1 modern rock headliner. No band should headline 2 nites ever again (unless it was Pearl Jam).
