My statement was that cretain bands create a slippery slope. Thus, setting precident for other terrible bands and threatening Bonnaroo. Sorry to hurt your feelings, but again, I don't make you listen to the un-listenable or defend the indefensible. That's on you, Chef...
You didn't hurt my feelings. I'd actually have to care what you thought for that to happen. Nobody is making anybody listen to unlistenable bands. And nobody cares that you don't like the Police or Incubus. We are all entitled to our opinions. I don't like every band, but I don't rip on those that do. (Except maybe Nickelback fans) It's how you express your opinions that makes you sound ignorant.

I'm sure the folks at Superfly/AC will be sure to ask for your expert advise when picking next year's lineup
And for the record, what exactly is un-listenable or indefensible music. Just curious.

What the fuck is that about. I ask you to defend an assertion and you just pass it off. I'm fucking serious. How dou you define indefensable music? I for one can think of a defense for ANY music, even if I personally don't like it. That doesn't mean their right for Bonnaroo, but you won't tell me if that's what's indefensable (their presence at Bonnaroo, that is).
So what is it? Defend your assertion. Or Can You? don't just sit back in your ivory tower of "authentic" music and sh!t on what other people enjoy and tell them to "get better." That kind of sh!t makes you sound like yr in Middle school.

Speaking of indefensible music .. music is like beauty, so so subjective, ah the platitudes eh … but seriously, I just got the new (ish) double live disco biscuits cd, and I trade cds with this guy at work …. He didn’t even want a burn for free … I don’t get that at all .. DB are really great IMO but so it goes … btw, we saw them two times a couple of weeks ago, and they were as good as ever .. cr****

I couldn't have said it any better. You keep commenting on unlistenable and indefensable music, but you can't back up your comments. What in your rightous opinion is good music? Please enlighten us, oh great musical sensei. And be specific.

I saw Incubus a couple of years back and they were fantastic.
I'm guessing this guy likes to show off his degree in douchebaggery.
i have seen incubus about 6 times and they never put on a bad show ... some better then others , but all good ... some people just have different tastes i guess eh .... cr****

Now I am not a big fan of DB - but I can't imagine anyone turning down a burn of them - For me - it would have been nice to have just for when I was in the mood for DB (which is not very often - but still)
incubus is very listenable. i enjoy them quite a bit. even since they have became more sappy and poppy. they're still good.. are they doing anything new? no. but who is these days? you couldn't find 80 bands doing something new or unique to fill up a bonnaroo roster. and even if you did there would not be enough interest in those bands. if you're looking for a low budget indie music fest, bonnaroo is not and has never been the place for you.

I've done nothing but back up my comments. To single out any one particular band would distract you from the point. There are a myriad of bands that are against everything Bonnaroo stood for in earlier days. STOOD. It's already past tense, and that sucks. A list of indefensible artists would be as vast as ignorant voters in the US. It's a paradigm/demographic that threatens Bonnaroo.

OK, give us 5 and defend their indefensible status
Man! I've been working on this post for a couple minutes and this thread has just blown up! and not in a positive way (this is happening way to often on here!)
I don't think incubus would be a bad choice for 'Roo. I think they'd be a great opening band for a headliner (aka Beck and Radiohead) I'm not really a big fan of them anymore, but I think their style is definitely appropriate. I would LOVE if they play more from their earlier albums like "The Fungus Among Us" and "Science."
Just looking at them as a band - who they are and what they believe in - Incubus is a band that fits well with the experience that Bonnaroo looks to create.

yea, i wouldn't want to give them the headline slot, but pre-headliner would be good.

I totally agree, although I would love to see them late night also. Either way, if they played Bonnaroo, I wouldn't miss it for anything.

I was just trying to point out that dismissing music as "unlistenable" or indefensable" just makes you sound ignorant. You also have yet to define what Bonnaroo STOOD for, and how that was different this year (buzz words like paradigm don't help). To me, Bonnaroo stood for good music, and while I wasn't in love w/ every artist on this years lineup I still came away with a lot of great music under my belt. So I guess it still stands. Who this year (besides the Police who I actually agree with you were lame) sent Bonnaroo down that slippery slope? Franz Ferdinand? Fountains of Wayne? because they're more "pop?" among a lineup as solid and eclectic as this years, they were barely noticed anyway. and if people did see them and enjoyed them, who cares?
Bottom Line - The police was a misstep, not a new paragigm. I think they expected more from them b/c Copeland played the year before and was really excited. But he couldn't overcome Sting's ego, they played an uninspired show, and the decision bit AC/Superfly in the ass. I don't think they'll make that mistake again soon.

I always miss the end of the debates I started... oh well, everyone else pretty much said what I would have anyways.

Nobody laughs at Strum and gets away with it (except maybe Meg... or Brook... or me). I ususally don't get involved in debates like that, but I was bored and it needed to be done. As I said in another thread, I love how we all came together to chastise one jackass. Don't f**k with a bunch of smartasses, especially if you don't have the brains to back it up. ;D
I had the chance to see Incubus live in Kansas City this past Friday. Best show I've ever been to!
lol Don't make it to many shows, huh?
Ha, I think I've probably been to more shows than most people my age. Have you ever been to an Incubus show? I will go see them every chance that I get from here on out. I just don't see how they could hurt Bonnaroo.
