Blue October. Seriously. I think this is one of the most underrated bands out right now.
(EDIT:) I don't know what kind of category to put this into. They had two radio hits with Hate Me and Into the Ocean, but I feel these are 2 of the weaker songs on that album.

My fav songs from their album "Foiled" are: Congratulations You Make Me Smile Overweight (fav) X Amount of Words She's My Ride Home
Since you haven't heard of Mr. Bungle I would recommend "California", probably their most mellow album. If mellow isn't your thing then I would go with "Disco Volante".
