Ahh Tiesto...he has a hell of a live show. High energy dance music...I don't think I stopped moving the entire time!!! I know a lot of people think his style doesn't really "fit" at Bonnaroo but I think he would be a great addition. One of the few people who could bring up the sun at Bonnaroo
I may be kind of biased though my boyfriend and I got together at his show in Atlanta this fall....

Mmm..just enjoying Alive 2007. It would be amazing to see Daft Punk!!
not dogging you this beautiful morning, but why is it you and others want the roo to change so much and get new artists et al? i love new music, i like daft punk, i saw them at the rocks and vegoose last year .... but if that is what strikes your fancy, why dont you just go other fests that have that kind of music .... the miami fest or coachella (which is tied for the roo for the best fest), but they are entirely different .... its nice to go to a fest that you can pretty much count on will have a certain type of music and feel ... lets not let gv and superfly turn all the fests into the same thing, just in different places ... just a thought ... cr****

Not to dog you back, but Weren't there DJs spinning on the main stage at Roo 2002? Electronica has always had a place at Bonnaroo.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i understand where you're coming from and for what its worth, i agree but its pretty inevitable. its just part of the cycle of life for any business: start out with a niche customer base and as time goes by, expand your appeal to a larger and larger customer base. in the process, you lose the niche you once had.
daft punk would be the best electronica act 'roo has ever seen...unfortunately i doubt it'll happen anytime soon. they hadn't toured the US prior to '06 since 1997 and having just come off this year's successes, will probably take a break or go back overseas i'd guess.
i think its high time (pun intended) that bonnaroo recognized the influence of electronica on the jam scene as a whole and gave us (drumroll please): the electronica tent!
hey we got the jazz tent added this year, and i think there's at least an equivalent if not larger electronica fanbase that's really been untapped. furthermore, look at the success of the silent disco and the disco arcade this year. they should build a massive electronica tent AND since you know that kinda tent is going to have the craziest, 24/7 dancing going on, it needs to be MIST tent to boot!
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Some of the best acts act Roo 07 were electronica based... It's... How do you say? "Times are a changin?"

Then using your Bob analogy, you would be fine then if daft punk came and played an entire set of acoustic music on a couple of guitars …. I am thinking not, or at least you would be disappointed … and that is really not what I am saying anyway … do you want the roo, Coachella, vegoose, waka, 10k, etc all to have the same bands from fest to fest …. We can have the Wal-Mart tour … same bands, same vibe, just in a bunch of different cities> (I think that was called lollapalooza) …. and moetran, i forget what moe's fest is called, but what if it were them and a bunch of hair bands , or country bands .... cr****

I'm not exactly sure what you meant by this post.... Maybe its just me
In any event I would love nothing more than Dance Tent at Bonnaroo, just like the Sahara Tent Coachella (lets just face it.. DANCING IS FUN). If roo decides to devote one of the existing tents (or entirely new tent) to dance music (hopefully late night) I would be bat sh*t ecstatic.
Also, this doesn't mean roo is turning into Coachella, or Lolla, we can still have the same roo vests (WSP, Mule, MMJ, NMAS, Trey) etc.... They're sweet too.
Come to think of it Dance music is already quite prevalent at Bonnaroo, I would consider STI, Biscuits, Franz Ferdiand, dance music and they have been all over roo. Even Radiohead and the Flips (among others) are influenced by and tinged with electronic sounds. Years ago dj's like logic, z-trip, RJD2, have helped keep the what stage moving in-between live acts. And lastly if anyone out there saw the sun come up with STS9 in 05, with Sasha in 06, and with S&D in 07, can attest as to what a huge success it was. Going to Bonnaroo is an experience I enjoy not only because of the music but the atmosphere. Bonnaroo is also about diversity of good music of any genre. Whether it be Jam, Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop, Electronica, or Metal! (anyone else remember seeing Electric Eel Shock in 06?). It doesn't matter what genre the music is as long as whomever is there to watch is happy. I for one am down with expanding roo's musical limits as long as the acts are dope.
This should liven up everybody's day
The Mist'd Dance tents sounds like the dopest thing I've ever heard of. You bring the glow sticks!

Well I guess I am not expressing very well what I am trying to say …. You can have 5 tents, that’s very cool .. Celebrate all kinds of music …. But on the main stages, I want bonnaroo to be special and not a clone of the other shows … that just cuts down attendance because “if I can catch them (whoever Zep?) close to my home, why drive 1500 miles for a handful of different bands on some small stage or tent … we can also go back to “its not only the music, but the vibe that makes bonnaroo different” … if that were the case, then just bring in a bunch of washed out bands no one wants to hear, or just bring in the StageCoach bunch (the Coachella equivalent for anyone unfamiliar with that fest) if the music is not what bonnaroo is about …. I want the roo to stay special, but most especially in the music area … you can give me the crap about, no one band will change bonnaroo, I agree, but if there is only 2 jam bands all weekend, or something like that … back to the wal-mart tour fest … this brings up a whole bunch of different topics like: the dust sucked so bad last year, lets just pave the whole damn place and no problem … boy it was hot a couple of the years … how about no camping except rv’s with electric hookups and street lights and air-conditioning for all … hey lets just have a 2 week run at the grand ole opry house and then parking and where to stay and everything will just be sooooo cozy …. Sorry I am in a bad mood today …. cr****

I am all about an electronica tent! That would be AMAZING!! And it would be one hell of a dance party
I don't think Roo is changing. It's supposed to be about a celebration of the diversity of music. I don't think a jam band festival would be that interesting...the same 20 bands who have played bonnaroo like 4 or 5 times is just as lame as having a bunch of run-of-the-mill "walmart" bands. Bonnaroo's NOT like Lolla and it's not like Coachella. Having only Jam bands would make it boring and monotonous too. I think the diversity of music is what makes Bonnaroo special - I'm sure that Superfly will book amazing acts that make the What stage "special".

we seem to be at an impasse .... if you want a real fest with all kinds of bands, new, old, and diverse ... go to coachella ... have you ever been there gal ? cr****

I'd like to repeat my comment from earlier that was ignored by everyone: Roo had DJs spinning in between sets ON THE MAIN STAGE in 2002. Electronica has always been a part of Roo. It quickly moved from those main stage between-set sets to the disco, silent disco and late night tents, and IMO it was a change for the better. But electronica has always been a part of roo.
And if you don't think roo is about diversity, you should check out the Roo 2002 DVD. The promoters beat the point to death that Bonnaroo is all about a diversity of types of music. And 2002 was the Roo's least-diverse year. While I've never been to Coachella, the lineups have never struck me as being more diverse than Bonnaroo. It's close, but arguable.
You can make the same argument that the promoters should not let Roo get stale and be like all the other jamfests out there.

As for MSTRKRFT, it's absolute and total crap compared to Death From Above... the MSTRKRFT mixes of DFA were horrid. It's a shame he's wasting his talent on mindless dance music.
I wouldn't go that far. The MSTRKRFT remixes of DFA1979 were not very good, but they (JFK in particular) have produced some pretty solid tracks (Bring It On/DANCE remixes). Unforunately they use a lot of the same instrumentation in all of their songs (most notably cymbals and synths) and nearly every song has the same basic song structure. Their tracks become rather tiresome after a short period of listening. I'm not even going to touch the "mindless dance music" bit.
Also, to address where this thread (and every other) has gone, what makes Bonnaroo great is the excellent mix of music and vibes. I'm one of the people you probably hate for attending Bonnaroo, as the past two years I've gone for mainly non-jam acts. In the past two years, however, I've come to appreciate the jammy portions of 'Roo much more. Just because it isn't my particular taste in music, I don't see it as "poisoning" Bonnaroo. I see the great diversity in acts at 'Roo as a reason to be there! 100,000 gather on some 700+ acres, all with different intentions and mindsets, yet they are all there for the same reasons.
Bonnaroo is never going to abandon the music which stems from its roots; what it will do is evolve in a way that promotes diversity. Just like music itself, Bonnaroo will constantly reform and find new ways to keep people coming back.
i've seen crystal method, paul van dyk, tiesto, sasha & digweed, daft punk, & evil nine and they'd all be welcome additions in my book, but i'm gonna go with bt and chem bros for my top choices.
bt's got such a great vibe i can't help but think he'd get it goin.
and chem bros never seem to perform in america...so bonnaroo, i say to you i need a miracle

BT would be great. His album This Binary Universe would fit in perfectly with Bonnaroo...such a chill vibe, really good stuff. It'd be awesome if he could play the album with the movie going on the background! Talk about trippy

Give me Tiësto!!! Although a DJ act such as Tiësto, Paul Van Dyk, or Armin Van Buuren would not fit the agenda of many faithful jam purists, I believe these DJs would provide a similar late night "dance your balls off 'till the sun comes up" experience that Sasha & Digweed have in the past, keeping in line with an extremely popular aspect of bonnaroo. The continual increase in popularity of electronica/techno/trance among the jam scene is becoming more apparent and accepted. Bands like Lotus (who I would also love to see at roo) and STS9 come to mind.

I don't know who I want more, Infected Mushroom or Tiesto. I love them both, and both of them have AMAZING shows. Can Superfly please answer my Christmas wish and book both of them? That would make for a very happy bamadancer
