Looks like Led Zeppelin's appetite for rock is well and truly back.
We can exclusively reveal that the legends - who staged a triumphant "one-off" gig at the O2 this month - will be the headline act at the Bonnaroo festival in the US next year.
The festival runs from June 12 to 15 in Tennessee - and if all goes smoothly they may even hit the road and tour.
An insider told us: "This is the news that will drive their fans absolutely wild. Advertisement Click here to find out more!
"They have been bombarding their website to get back together for good but only Robert Plant wasn't keen to commit.
"Now he's had a change of heart and if it goes well they are also talking about touring."
The band have a huge following and continue to influence today's young bands - sometimes in very mysterious ways.
Up and coming band Van Tramp were stunned when they realised they were rehearsing in the studio next to the legends. But Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were even more impressed. They asked a studio assistant: "Excuse me, who's that playing in Room 4? They're great!"
And when Van Tramp left that night they discovered their debt for the session had been cleared - most likely by their hero Plant.
The boys - Tim Howar, Patrick Mascall, Andy Tinning, Mike Potter and Guy Snelgar - were overwhelmed.
A pal of the band said: "They were rehearsing at The Ritz studios in Putney and couldn't believe their eyes when they realised that the men walking down the corridor to the studio next door were none other than Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
"The band wanted to go and introduce themselves but they were too shy. But when they had packed up their gear and went to pay, they were told by the assistant that a certain long-haired blonde man had approached her at the desk and asked who they were.
"They believe Robert Plant then cleared their studio debt. They couldn't believe it!"
The indie rock group release single Help Me Make It next month. If Led Zep's opinion is anything to go by, it could be a very happy new year for them.
It's just some entertainment tabloid. They probably want to get more people to their website, or be able to say that they were the first to re report it. Or just to stir sh*t up. Or to get people to check out that Van Tramp band, which half the article is about anyway. I mean, it ends talking about this random band and plugs their single.

yeah..karma for that
I feel bad for superfly if this is all just rumors...can you imagine the pressure they must be under? If Zeppelin is not going to be there...anyone else is gonna be a let down.

I thought the same thing regarding the Van Tramp band....
it's just a rumor, but you never know, and it's fun to imagine LZ @ Roo ;D

Zep '08!!!!
Very true. Through no fault of their own, they are going to end up looking terrible. Although if they didn't have Zeppelin, I would think they'd somehow provide or leak more concrete information that they wouldn't be there just to quell the rumors.

Karma for that too...great point
If they know that Zeppelin will NOT be there (they know by now yes or no for certain)...then they would almost have to come out and say so. A definitive statement..no innuendos, no reading between the lines....a simple short sweet "crush our hopes" statement.
If they let these rumors keep churning, they're culpable to some extent.
I really doubt that they would come out with anything more than a statement saying that the rumors are innacurate (which they already did). Of course, you can take that statement however your want to... which leaves us wondering even more.
Bonnaroo won't be ruined if Zep isn't there. I'm sure a lot of people will be disapointed, but they will more than likely sell all the tickets anyway. They know this and theyre gonna make us wait til February
Rumors happen all the time and I really don't think theyre going to "look terrible" because they didn't get a certain band. It's only one show, it's only one night.
I really do think the only reason that article was written was to plug that band.

gotcha..well...thats pretty dirty just to mention so random rumor along with your bands name to get press... not the way I'd want to go about getting publicity for my band..
I would not be surprised if they did play Bonnaroo. And i wont be dissapointed if they dont . Bonnaroo 08 will be a blast with or without Led Zep. I guess we will all know in less then 30 days ....

I agree. This year's gone by so quickly, I'm really having a hard time believing that announcements are just around the corner.
I've not really been taking much part of the rumors as I did last year... I'm just a spectator, at this point, as there are so many great possibilities for this year. I really doubt it will be anything less than the best festival all year... once again.

Wow, Van Tramp?! I read in the tabloids that Robert Plant thinks they're great!!
Nah, I don't buy this. It just doesn't fit together. Why a British tabloid? Specifically, why The Mirror? Where does this insider really come from? After all, we know Superfly/AC to be uber-tight regarding leaking info from inside. Sure, we get our share of leaks from pollstar, jambase, and other tour schedules, or from the bands themselves, but basically never do we get leaked info from "insiders". Who knows, perhaps they even leaked this themselves, knowing it was false, to stir up publicity. After all, how popular is Bonnaroo to the Brits?

Grohl Joins Zeppelin as Band Book US Fest? 01/01/2008
(Gigwise.com) Dave Grohl is reportedly waiting on a very important phone call, an invitation to go drum on the rumoured Led Zeppelin reunion tour. Apparently the Foo Fighters man is desperate to take control of the skins for anymore shows the band might play despite the fact that he praised Jason Bonham's performance at the O2 Arena show.
According to one of those people that seem to know everything – the insider – Grohl was also in the running to take Bonham's role at the London gig.
Metal Underground has this report Mirror.co.uk can exclusively reveal that LED ZEPPELIN - who staged a triumphant "one-off" gig at the O2 this month - will be the headline act at the Bonnaroo festival in the US next year. The festival runs from June 12 to 15 in Tennessee - and if all goes smoothly they may even hit the road and tour.

I really just don't know. I'm still very skeptical about the whole thing. Can we trust the British tabloid? They've already said it was false once. Shoot me, but I'm not a huge Zeppelin fan. I'd rather see Pearl jam headline instead. I can see it being not as spectacular as everyone expects. I mean these guys are getting older and can anyone honestly expect them to live up to all this hype? I don't think so, but that's just me.
^^Well, first, I agree. You can't trust a British tabloid. Especially when the thing keeps getting re-reported differently in each subsequent blog or website it's published in. That being said....
They never said Zeppelin wouldn't headline Bonnaroo. They said the reports that Metallica and Zeppelin were headlining Bonnaroo were false. There in lies the difference.
Second, PJ can and might headline A night, but they ain't big enough to headline the festival. Especially coming on the heels of Radiohead and the Police.
Finally, are they good enough? Well, they all still have the chops. Sure Plant can't sing like he used to, but that's what key changes are for. And the reviews of their reunion last month were all universally positive. If they added Grohl to the mix, it's hard to see things not getting that much more epic.
blah. i really dont want the foo fighters are roo.
Well, it's not like it's true. I just share the rumors so they can be dissected, scrutinized and cast aside.
Yeah, that's a crazy awesome rumor (imo), but Foo Fighters already have a tour scheduled for the summer. I mean, he would likely have to scrap touring with his group to tour with Zeppelin. And even if Foo toured with Zeppelin, does anyone really think Grohl has the stamina to do one full set fronting a band then another full set drumming for Zeppelin? That's what? 4-5 hours of live music a night?
Well, let me ask a question while were on the subject because I really don't know a lot about it. What is the difference between headlining "a night" and headlining "the festival". Does a different band headline each day or does the festival headliner headline every day? I'm confused. Thanks

The difference is all in top billing and promotion. For instance, last year, the headliners were The Police, Tool and Widespread Panic. But The Police was announced as headlining the festival because they were the biggest draw. Same applies to Radiohead, who headlined the festival's billing aside fellow headliners, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Phil Lesh & Friends.
I don't think you could bill Pearl Jam as the headliner and have the same ease in ticket sales as you would if you billed Led Zeppelin at the top. Now if you bill Led Zeppelin along with Pearl Jam, then I think you have yourself a fast sell out.
People might disagree with me as previous Roo's sold out without the name recognition as before, but I think time's have changed. Four years ago, there wasn't the level of competition in the festival circuit as there is now. Now you need big names to sell tix.

Would they also have to raise ticket prices slightly to compensate? I mean PJ and Zep are two very high profile acts. I agree about the competition thing though. I can see them going all out on this fest.
