How about this to ponder...The Grammy's ALWAYS have a surprise. Last year was the Police, but everyone knew. Maybe Zep is the surprise. JPJ is already conducting an orchestra with Dave Grohl. Is there a better instance to play Kashmir, with JPJ conducting an orchestra?
Couple that with those interesting Dave Grohl rumors regarding him playing with Zeppelin.

In jmkm's post up there for the Billboard article from Dec 3, they mentioned this...
"Led Zeppelin will play its first U.S. show since July 24, 1977, this June at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn., according to an email published in industry commentator Bob Lefsetz's newsletter. " This was dated Dec 3rd.
I went to Bob Lefsetz blog and he said this:
"All my sources tell me there’s going to be a tour. No one will CONFIRM a tour, but it’s a well-known fact that they’re going to go on the road. As for Ashley Capps and Bonnaroo…when he contacted me to correct that e-mail I printed, saying it was false, I replied that I would if he guaranteed in writing that Zeppelin absolutely wouldn’t play Bonnaroo. I got no response."

if sara watkins is added to the lineup expect jpj to be there too he is producing her album, also the main reason jpj was at the roo last year was because he produced uncle earls album, and so he did the super jam

Capps probably didn't want to put it in writing because he would like to think they could get Zeppelin. In other words, they weren't booked yet but he didn't want to close the door in case by chance they were able to book them later. I mean, of course they WANT to book Zeppelin for Bonnaroo, no one assumes otherwise. But will they be able to? It's not looking like it.
THANK YOU. That's what I've been saying. RIGHT NOW, LZ is not booked for 'Roo. If the festival organizers can do it, I'm sure they will. But right now, LZ is not planning on touring this summer. Maybe Plant even wants LZ to play at 'Roo, and some of the other band members aren't really into the idea. There's all kinds of possibilities. But RIGHT NOW, LZ is not booked.
i would like to think that it is possible that they end up playing roo...when it was announced that Zeppelin and Metallica were headlining, everyone denied it saying that it was untrue...EVEN METALLICA DENIED IT...and look who is one of the headliners
yeah, I mean, who knows, if they /do/ change their plans and wind up touring this summer, maybe the fact that there's been all this confusion in the news will make them feel a little obligated to play at 'Roo (or at least, they must know many fans are now hoping for it). But, right now I'm sure they're not planning on it. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened with Metallica -that Metallica was not planning on playing at 'Roo when that rumor came out, but the rumor helped get them interested in it somehow...
I found something interesting. On Facebook, where it lists bands and shows they will be playing, Pearl Jam is listed for Thursday, June 12 at Bonnaroo. I am not trying to pass this off as correct, but it could feed the Zeppelin rumor some more if this is correct. I personally highly doubt it, but just a thought.
Yeah, Thursday is usually the default date if a real date hasn't been nailed down yet. PJ will be on Saturday.
99% of the time I would agree with you. Except the Facebook band feature is normally updated by someone with close ties to the band. That's why you get the special announcements or videos sometimes through it. So, it is possible that this date could have come from someone in the know. I am pretty sure at this point, Pearl Jam knows what day they are playing Bonnaroo. I am not saying I 100% believe the Thursday night slot, I am just saying it could be correct.

Dude, I'm not trying to be a jerk but there is no way Pearl Jam is playing on Thursday. The main stage isn't even open. Pearl Jam is playing Saturday night. Write it down.

not saying who's right and who's wrong, but this festival has been expanding like crazy. thursday nights used to be pretty useless, but over the past couple years, thursday has had some big acts. its Bonnaroo...anything is possible.

wasnt mute math, rod y gab thursday? those are the ones that stuck out to me last year, nothing PJ big, but if this roo is gonna be bigger maybe we will get more of a full day thursday, latenight and all

No, it's cool. This is the place for discussion. I truly expect Pearl Jam to headline on Saturday night. I am aware that no one has played the main stage before Friday at noon before and that no huge band has played Thursday. I am also aware that Thursday night has constantly expanded over the years and more and more people are arriving early. In the future, we could possibly see Thursday night full blown with a headliner, so why not this year?I was simply trying to bring forth another possiblilty, and give the board something to talk about besides how much they hate Metallica or want every band to play late night.

jpj's orchestra was on, but no sign of plant/krauss
i still want to kick bonnie raitt's ass for her introduction to what ended being fogerty and lewis. you can't tell me there are two father's of rock n roll and a SON of one them, and then open the effing curtain to fogerty and lewis.

my hope is slowly fading.. it would make since to wait until the superjam was announced.. to sell out the rest of the tickets.. but wouldn't make since to have THE led zeppelin playing in a tent. if pearl jam comfirms saturday night.. all hope is lost.. i suppose deep down i'll still have the hope regardless.. until i'm on my way home and jimmy page has yet to be seen.

Haha. Yeah if the Metallica stuff keeps up, we want have to worry about them "bringing bad vibes."
I totally agree that we could get a bigger act on Thursday. Not sure about a headliner, but I would think Jack Johnson makes more sense then Pearl Jam. Maybe playing on the Which Stage? That is if Superfly had something like Led Zeppelin up their sleeve. He would work into you theory better in my opinion. As he is a newer artist and doesn't have the back catalogue or live performance rep that comes with PJ. They just seem like the obvioues fit for Saturday. Again, my earlier reply was poorly worded and I didn't even counter what you said. Should have just kept my yap shut.
I think I'm just really losing hope on this working out. We can always pray for Superjam.
Meh.. It's Roo. We're all gonna have a blast either way. Especially during the Sam Bush mosh pit!

the more i think about it.. the more i talk myself into it. Think about the economic value.. zeppelin hasn't played in the u.s. in decades.. an announcement like this would be something epic and unprecidented and bring in people from all over the u.s. just to see led zeppelin and nothing else.. tickets would sell overnight.. most would only stay for zeppelin.. while the normal bonnarooers are at home ticketless.. that would hurt sales in the venue extremely.. this is led zeppelin not the police.. their last show tickets were given out by lottery.. it would only make sense to announce it after tickets were sold out.. all the normal roo goers would be there.. and it would put bonnaroo on the international map for years to come. your bonnaroo ticket value would quardruple minutes after the announcement. either way.. i'm the biggest zep fan you'll meet, and i'd rather have a ticket to a zep-less roo than no ticket to a roo with zeppelin.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

This blogger has some interesting points.
"For Led Zeppelin's return at the O2 arena this past December, Robert Plant decided he wanted to use a special audio system, one he had witnessed during a Metallica concert at Wembley Stadium earlier that summer. More specifically its called the Midas XL8 Live Performance System and Led Zeppelin hired Metallica's sound guy for the last two decades, Big Mick Hughes, as front of house for the O2 Arena reunion job. Coincidence one: The same sound guy that monitored the O2 gig, will be at Bonnaroo already."
