Well I don't really know much about kayne and the high up on the bill etc but if there is a propensity of violence associated by rap music bling bling and *itches etc then yeah it'll be early night if anything the promoters gotta guide the mood by the lineup and that would be hard to do at night with emergency response etc having to clean the mess up at night. My two cents and change Trip
I must be really old because I have no idea what this dude is trying to say. Smoke another one guy.

first of all, its bonnaroo, and i saw not one bit of violence in 06, nor have i heard of anyone experiencing any in previous years.
second, kanye is not rap, he's hip-hop, and to me, there's a big difference. he's not anymore prone to violence at his shows than blackalicious/lyrics born/common(which was the hip hop show i attended in 06)

What numerous sources? They were all subscribers to the Associated Press feed. AP screws up, and all the subscribers look like asses.
If Bonnaroo is able to keep this secret this long, Halliburton should hire 'em. Lord knows what they'd be able to get away with then .
meh i still think there was something to NME saying they had a special headliner
I'm assuming you're speaking of this NME article, in which an anonymous email quoted in Bob Lefsetz's newsletter is sited as a source: www.nme.com/news/led-zeppelin/32939
Or maybe even Bob's reply: "As for Ashley Capps and Bonnaroo…when he contacted me to correct that e-mail I printed, saying it was false, I replied that I would if he guaranteed in writing that Zeppelin absolutely wouldn’t play Bonnaroo. I got no response." (http://tinyurl.com/2owptb)
If we're going to use Bob Lefsetz's as a reliable source, we should also consider this quote, sent in by Peter Mensch, part of Metallica's management company: "As for Ashley Capps not guaranteeing that they are not playing Bonaroo in writing, well, I’m f*cking guaranteeing it in writing. Led Zeppelin is not playing Bonaroo." (http://tinyurl.com/37cmxf)
I was talking about the day the lineup was announced, NME posted earlier on in the day that they had a special headliner to announce, which started the whole zep fiasco that night

for weeks before the announcement.. there were sources by many news agencies claiming zeppelin will play bonnaroo.. the sources were not confirmed.. but they were there.. before the entire frenzy.. i bet you no matter who you are.. whether you're mad about kanye and metallica or not.. has roo ever.. EVER let you down?.. you'll have a good time.. and there's no reason for them to change the genres like that.. they always sell out. you're in store for something great.. whether zeppelin is there or not. wait AT LEAST for the superjam before you count anything out.. this is the only festival in the world you can do so.

I don't trust what Metallica's management says. They said over and over that Metallica was NOT playing and yet there they are on the bill.
I really don't trust any promoters on what they say anyway. It is their job to do dispel rumors, mislead, deal with leaks, etc. It is why they get paid the big bucks. So when Capps says: "Believe Me"..... I don't!
“Believe me, if Zeppelin was going to be there we would be shouting it from the rooftops,” he said, adding that no one would be more surprised than him and his team if the band did perform.
I don't believe him. Why should I? It's his job to say this. Also he kinda gives himself an out by adding...
"no one would be more surprised than him and his team if the band did perform." To me, that means it is still a possibility. If they perform his team will be suprised.
I just looked up that Peter Mench guy and found a list of artists that his company represents. Of course Metallica is at the top of their list, but look who else is on their list of artists...
The current Q Prime roster of Artists is as follows: METALLICA RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS SHANIA TWAIN JIMMY PAGE GARBAGE NINA GORDON LOSTPROPHETS MUSE LIVING THINGS DEAD 60s NICKEL CREEK GILLIAN WELCH ERIC CHURCH FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE SILVERSUN PICKUPS SNOW PATROL

the danger with kanye is not violence, it's really mediocre lyrics....he can work some magic behind the soundboard, but beyond his samples and beats he is a pretty weak rapper
i don't think you would have to worry about violence with any kind of rap or hip hop for that matter. you could bring in triple 6 and you woudn't have to worry about that sh!t. i don't want to gang up on this guy for voicing his opinion but i take it he has never been to a hip hop show before. either that or he's a cop.

there was that stabbing at the vibe awards though... but i haven't seen young buck's name pop up in any of the rumor threads yet so i think we are safe.
hells angels beat a guy to death during the rolling stones at monterey.
music doesn't cause violence, people cause violence.

Ok.. so this is where i'm at.
1. Jimmy Page is managed by the same person as Metallica.
2. Zeppelin was rumored WITH Metallica to play bonnaroo. 1/2 is correct as of now.
3. Major news companies across the world not only announced zeppelin to be playing.. but claimed it was CONFIRMED by festival promoters.
4. LEZ Zeppelin.. which sparked the screw up.. was listed at the very top of the original press release.. a band which is listed near the bottom of the poster.
5. millions applied for Zeppelin's o2 show.. An unprecedented show like this would sell out instantly.. to festival goers not usually seen at bonnaroo. Superfly would in turn lose money in the venue on other days other bands are playing.
6. Plant is currently on tour.. and cannot sell tickets to Plant/Krauss shows with an imminent zep reunion weeks away.
7. Superfly budgeted this years headliners.. as the highest grossing festival in the world.
8. Pearl Jam has yet to release the date of their set even though Metallica has.
9. In a rolling stone article to be released next week.. Bonnaroo promoters are quoted as saying "headliners don't like to book festivals until less than 3 months in advance".. and "searching for headliners is an ongoing process"
10. Plant and Krauss' tour dates are all seperated by a few days except the last... Bonnaroo. and it's 23 days after the previous show.
11. Plant is quoted as saying "You never know what's around the corner"
12. Bonnaroo did not announce John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin.. until two weeks prior to the show last year.
13. Led Zeppelin is KNOWN for being mysterious.. and bonnaroo is KNOWN for off the chart last minute additions.
14. This show would be unprecedented. Led Zeppelin playing Bonnaroo would be one of the most epic shows in the past 3 decades. ANYTHING is game.

I got online just to give you karma for that StumblinInTheNeonGroves That is some well thought out $hit and I agree. I still think we are going to see some form of LZ and will continue to think that until I leave the farm.

Fact.
2. Zeppelin was rumored WITH Metallica to play bonnaroo. 1/2 is correct as of now.
And Peter Mensch, part of Metallica's management team, has said, "I'll f*cking guarantee that Zeppelin isn't playing Bonnaroo."
3. Major news companies across the world not only announced zeppelin to be playing.. but claimed it was CONFIRMED by festival promoters.
Why does everyone keep making this sound as is every major news company has some sort of hardcore investigative reporter in their entertainment department? They were all reading the same press release and Associated Press feeds!
4. LEZ Zeppelin.. which sparked the screw up.. was listed at the very top of the original press release.. a band which is listed near the bottom of the poster.
Significance? Are you implying that A.C. 'screwed up' their own press release?
5. millions applied for Zeppelin's o2 show.. An unprecedented show like this would sell out instantly.. to festival goers not usually seen at bonnaroo. Superfly would in turn lose money in the venue on other days other bands are playing.
And they'd lose even more money by not raising prices for sponsors, vendors, and ticket buyers. Supply and demand... if you're really worried about 'losing money' on the other 3 days of the festival, you try to make up for it by charging them more on your heaviest day.
6. Plant is currently on tour.. and cannot sell tickets to Plant/Krauss shows with an imminent zep reunion weeks away.
Unfounded speculation. What about the people that are genuinely interested in his latest (Grammy award winning) album? What about Krauss' fans? Do you really think that his shows are packed with nothing but aging rock fans wearing Led Zeppelin t-shirts?
7. Superfly budgeted this years headliners.. as the highest grossing festival in the world.
Again, unfounded speculation. You don't know how much they budgeted, you don't know how many bands they've booked, you don't know how much those bands are charging, you don't know what the farm's expenses are, and you don't know how much of a profit they were anticipating on making.
8. Pearl Jam has yet to release the date of their set even though Metallica has.
Irrelevant. If they'd said Saturday, I'm sure someone would pop up and say, "then Zep must be on Sunday!" Confirming PJ for saturday would neither corroborate nor disprove your theory.
9. In a rolling stone article to be released next week.. Bonnaroo promoters are quoted as saying "headliners don't like to book festivals until less than 3 months in advance".. and "searching for headliners is an ongoing process"
Actually, it was Paul Tollett, head of Goldenvoice ( Coachella's promoters) that made that statement. Of course, if you're looking for a quote from someone at Bonnaroo, there's always Ashley Capps' statements: tinyurl.com/38uya7
10. Plant and Krauss' tour dates are all seperated by a few days except the last... Bonnaroo. and it's 23 days after the previous show.
Hrmmm.... 23 was also the name of a Jim Carey movie. My God... do you mean.... Jim Carey's going to play with Zeppelin!?!?!?!?
11. Plant is quoted as saying "You never know what's around the corner"
What you consider a corner may be different from what he considers a corner. All indications are pointing to a fall (or later) tour. I'd say that qualifies as the near future, just as much as June.
12. Bonnaroo did not announce John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin.. until two weeks prior to the show last year.
However, Uncle Earl, a band for which he'd recently produced an album, was booked several months prior, and JPJ had been known to show up at their gigs. It's not like he popped up at Bonnaroo for no good reason.
13. Led Zeppelin is KNOWN for being mysterious.. and bonnaroo is KNOWN for off the chart last minute additions.
Mysterious? How is Page saying that they aren't touring until the fall mysterious?
14. This show would be unprecedented. Led Zeppelin playing Bonnaroo would be one of the most epic shows in the past 3 decades. ANYTHING is game.
So... it'd be epic (not unprecedented... O2, by definition, set the precedent for Zeppelin performing a one-off concert). How exactly does that support the theory that they'll be playing at Bonnaroo? Zeppelin playing on the moon would be epic (as well as unprecedented).... doesn't mean they're planning on doing it.
