Sorry if I misled anyone with the title of this thread. I just want to get everyone's thoughts on what/who it should be this year. Last year the most legendary member was John Paul Jones, so they played mostly Zeppelin tunes.
I think the SuperJam should continue in this direction and get someone from a classic, legendary rock band who have influenced nearly every musician/band that came after them. And as a note, I'm completely fine with Bonnaroo carrying on the Grateful Dead tradition by having either Bobby or Phil.
One thing I love most about Bonnaroo is the fact that so many bands do covers. And that's generally what SuperJam is.
There are a few bands/artist's whose music I would love to hear at Bonnaroo, and I'd like to see at least one of the original surviving members included in the SuperJam:
1. Pink Floyd - very doubtful that they could/would get Waters or Gilmour to play in the SuperJam, but I'd like to see either headline. And we've heard bands at Bonnaroo cover them before, and that is nice. But to have an original member would be even better.
2. The Doors - I don't think I've ever heard of anyone covering the Doors at Bonnaroo, and if they were able to get Robby, Ray or John there, I'd go nuts. But for the love of god, I would not want this to be like Woodstock 99 when Robby played with Creed. I could live with Travis Meeks of Days of the New doing vocals.
3. Jimi Hendrix - Robert Randolph and Ben Harper are the 2 best that I've ever heard cover Hendrix, so if this didn't happen, I'd be fine with it.
4. Queen - not sure who all the surviving members names are, and I'm not sure if they plan on playing again with Paul Rodgers on vocals (did they ever play any shows?), but I think a lot of people at Bonnaroo would like to hear some of Queen's music.
5. Anyone who played at the Crossroads Fest last year would be nothing short of amazing for the SuperJam
I think they should make the SuperJam so good that they have to put it on the Which Stage latenight. You just can't have a SuperJam like last year and expect the Other Tent to be enough room.
I'd like to see a reunion/superjam of The Zack Attack: Zack Morris, AC Slater, Screech Powers, Lisa Turtle, Kelly Kapowski, and Jessie "I'm so excited... I'm so... SCARED!" Spano. It would be amazing to hear them perform "Friends Forever!"

Zack Attack 08!
i don't know what to do, exalt or smite .... i'll go with my heart, exalt!!
Last year was the first I felt like the superjam was not among the best shows of the weekend. I liked it, but felt it lacked cohesion, energy and was extremely short. I don't know if knowing about it beforehand helped take away the element of surprise, but I really hope this year, it goes back to the norm of including artists from the festival and laying down a surprise set. Obviously the reason it was announced was b/c of John Paul Jones, but to me, the best part of the superjam is not knowing what you'll get until you actually get it. That's part of what makes it "super."
Edit: Also, if they do announce it, I hope it isn't in the Other Tent again. It was way too crowded, imo, and the sound beyond the walls of the tent was not loud enough. Though I do hope they keep it late night. LAte night superjam is the best.
Anyone think they're going to bank on NOT announcing who's going to be in the Superjam and have an overflow of ticket purchases on pure speculation alone?
Go For It! 1, 2, 3, Bend! 1, 2, 3, Stretch! 1, 2, 3, Bend! 1, 2, 3, Stretch!

I believe last year Superjam was listed as "tba" when the schedule came out.

Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade! Them doing the Live Frogs Pink Floyd set would be awesome. Maybe with a special guest from Pink Floyd. I'd love to see Rick Wright play.

1.) No one from Pink Floyd would attend Bonnaroo with out Roger Waters or David Gilmour being on the top of the bill. Most legendary rock stars are not as humble as John Paul Jones
2.)This is the best idea I have heard yet, but instead of having one set singer have the singer be the guest spot and have different singers through the fest stop by and sing. Jim James Eddie Veder Tom Waits?
3.) Also a good idea. However if they do it it would be best served getting Alvin Jett. He is from St Louis and plays the best Jimi I have ever heard.
4.) Let it die. This would be awful. However Brian May is welcome.
5.)Never been to that fest but from the DVD seems like alot of playing together so they could figure something out.
Foo Fighters have played with Queen on several different occasions, maybe Dave Grohl, Brian May, Taylor Hawkins, and some of the guys from Queens of the Stone Age tearing up some Queen....ahhh that would be sweet
bluegrass latenight jam with ymsb, bela fleck, tony rice, chris thile, edgar meyer, sam bush, leftover salmon, and a bunch of others. now that would be a very fun show pickin' til the sun comes up
2. The Doors - I don't think I've ever heard of anyone covering the Doors at Bonnaroo, and if they were able to get Robby, Ray or John there, I'd go nuts. Eddie Vedder would need to be a part of that. I sware he was channeling Morrison when he sang with the Doors at their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Ray Manzarek sounds like crap on the keys in that clip. Vedder is tight.
