Deadheads for Obama
Grateful Dead Members to Reunite for Barack Obama
(San Francisco) Members of the Grateful Dead will host a get out the vote concert in support of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama on Monday, February 4th at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco.
Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir, joined by Jackie Greene, John Molo, and Steve Molitz, will play show together in support of Barack Obama.
The video website Iclips will be producing a live simulcast streamed via the Internet on www.iclips.net at approximately 7:30pm PST.
This will mark the first time that the members of the legendary band have performed together since 2004. They have agreed to reunite for this one-time-only event in order to lend support to Senator Obama leading into the crucial “Super- Tuesday” series of primaries held on Tuesday, February 5th.
no offense, but that's kind of lame. He's waay more conservative than anything the dead typically preach about... still i guess when you guys only have two parties to choose from, i mean its not like they're going to back McCain...
what ever happened to ralph nader?
In any case, i'm getting my hopes up for the dead closing out sunday

Just to let you know, Barack Obama is considered the most liberal member of the Senate. More liberal than Hillary Clinton or Ted Kennedy and from my personal experience most people, at least conservatives, consider Kennedy VERY liberal... I don't know why though.
"I want you to notice When I'm not around You're so fücking special I wish I was special But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" -Radiohead
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Benjamin Franklin
Nobody is talking because, well, it's not like this is the first time. They've toured as "the Dead" extensively since 2002/2003, only having taken the last year or so off. Phil & Friends still tour heavily, so it's not like there is a dearth of solid GD material being played.
Phil hasn't played with any member of the Dead, and they haven't toured together, since 2004. That's almost 4 years off.

I'm not going to let this become a political thread, but that bullsh*t from The National Journal that you're referencing is a complete boondoggle that serves no purpose other than to provide fodder for the Republican candidates looking to raise the "OH HE'S SOOOO LIBERAL! HE'S GOING TO PERFORM MARRIAGES BETWEEN GAY TERRORISTS NEXT TO THE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE ABORTION ARENA DOWN ON LEGALIZED MARIJUANA WAY!" fears amongst the voters. So Obama is supposed to be more liberal than Bernie Sanders and Russ Feingold? Please - this thing is a crock. They pulled the same thing with Kerry in 2004 and it caused some serious, completely unwarranted, damage. I'm not laying into you or anything, I just find the whole thing to be so ridiculous.
Anyway, to get things back on track - I'm not too bent out of shape over Kreutzmann not being on board for this. Molo is a monster. ;D

I dont think the Dead have played since August 2004...almost 3 1/2 years.
And, to somebody else, I think they are supporting Barack in large part because he's the only viable candidate with anti-Iraq War credibility.

bob said in a rolling stones interview that he is strongly against the war and those who agree with it....i have to agree with suspendedzen and say this is an anti-war bit...bob had said that its sad not as many people are protesting like they did in nam, but its because of the news censorship...in nam they would show the actual bodies and alot more terror...now a days hardly do you ever SEE a dead soldier...u just hear about them...(i apologize if i have saddened or upset anyone who has family or friends in iraq, my best to you and them in hoping they come home safe).....the 2 strongest candids...mccain and obama..obama is the anti war where as mccain wants to stay in for a while...its completely understandable why they would do a show for obama....i can even easily see them throughout the show..."end the war", "stop bushes bull $hit", etc. but playing for politics and not fans=LAME......lerxst/dirk/pratt, i like>>>>the obama 08 sticker idea peace
