I agree, it's a less than logical fit, but I'm excited to see them none the less.
Just remember this guys... they are what you make of them. And I'm not too worried about the vibe. The only thing damaging the vibe now is the negativity towards them.

Very true and I am trying to stay positive about them. The only one I am negative about is Kanye West

So, so true. I admit that I'm not the biggest Metallica fan, but I want to give them a shot. At the very least, give them a chance. At the very worst? Skip them and rest up for a late night!
You get what you give. If you give them all your negativity, then that's all you're going to receive. It's just not worth letting one band ruin all the great things about 'Roo, besides.... you may be a bit surprised by what they might bring.
I am also ok with Metallica. It isn't a great fit but I will see them anyway.
What will make me happier would be moe. TMV, Muse, and Zeppelin.
Muse would be most excellent. I too am fine with Metallica and have this feeling that they are just going to bring it. I wouldn't miss it. I created this thread becasue so many are bent out of shape about them. My only problems have been about their attitudes but it appears I was wrong about that and am willing to change my opinion. I grew up with Metallica and own severall of their albums. I just feel that many of the bonnaroo faithful will be ok with them too (like they were for Tool) if there is some tweaking to the lineup and if there are some more of those traditional Bonnaroo bands added like: Franti, Keller, MOE....and so on.
I just keep getting this image in my head though. If I am not mistaken...on the first Bonnaroo DVD was there not this one interview with a couple of metal fans (one wearing a Metallica shirt I think) that point blank said to the camera that hippies suck. I know this is only the opinion of two metal heads out of all the metal heads in the world but it does make me wonder what kind of atmosphere will exist now if that is the general mentality.

Fools! Did you not bang your head in rhythm to the iconic beat "Darkness, imprisoning me, all that I see, absolute horror..."? Did you not try to learn "Nothing Else Matters" on the acoustic, so as to impress the ladies? Were you not Unforgiven before you'd even seen your first Phish show?
Metallica is a great act. Their musicianship is STELLAR. That is what Bonnaroo is about. Stellar musicianship. The "jam band" scene surely appreciates that, does it not?
