Am I the only one that is pumped to see M.I.A. on the lineup? Her sets at Lolla and Vegoose were highlights of 07! Her albums are great (Though B disagrees), and her live sets are great times!
Me (far left in the huge pimp hat) onstage with MIA at Vegoose

I saw her set from a distance at Lollapalooza while waiting for Regina Spektor (or maybe STS9) to perform. Personally, I didn't think it sounded that great. It mostly just annoyed me. However, the sound at Lollapalooza was terrible. Seemed to be real hit or miss. I will have to give her another try.
I've heard really mixed things about her live show that go one way or the other dependent on the sound at a given set. I get the impression she doesn't have a good crew of sound people on her end of things.

Bullshit to that. MIA gave one of the best performances I have EVER seen, and there was nothing wrong with the sound at all.

And yet I HAVE indeed talked to people who've been to multiple shows and said sometimes her sound sucks and sometimes it doesn't. So it's not exactly bullshit...
I can't stand her. Had to sit through her while waiting for Rage at Voodoo this past year, and it pained me to listen to that. I originally thought that she was not speaking English on stage. She dressed up in this metallic suit so you couldn't miss her. I don't see how she has the critical acclaim that she gets. Just my personal opinion.
Both of her albums are top notch. She puts some of her best tracks at the end of her albums, which is fairly odd.
BTW, I thought that her Lolla set was AMAZING. She was pretty damn drunk, but it had such a good vibe. I was right in front of the stage, so the sound didn't seem bad at all to me.

I am definitely looking forward to her set, but in no way do I think she should do a late night...afternoon on which stage is my prediction...the hotter and sunnier the better!
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."

If you saw her on her most recent tour, you'd note that she has pretty solid visuals. Her music (especially that produced by Diplo, and to a lesser extent Switch) has a distinct club feel, in my opinion not really suited for daylight.

im with you man. but that also may be because i was more excited for rage than i have ever been for anything in my life. i had about 1 square foot of personal bubble and all i could see was this giant metallic figure on the screen and some crazy synth going on. ill probably give her album a chance before roo but not a good first impression.
I didn't know who she was really until I listened to some of her stuff on myspace and shes awesome. And just from her music it seems like shed put on an awesome show...
Fuck pitchfork reviews. But karma for the link! I had to miss MIA at voodoo because I was way close for RATM, and for some reason they didn't have the sound going at both stages, while they were showing the video feed. It looked super fun, and she's awesome anyways, so I'm looking forward to it.
