I'm so excited to hear he'll be closing out the fest... I loved him during the day in '05 and I'll be all happy and mellow ending with him on Sunday night.
But then again, I never was one of the cool kids so I'm not suprised to hear that people aren't too happy about him headlining.
Tara - I guess I am with you and not a cool kid either because I love Jack and think he would be a great headliner and close out on Sunday - I am disappointed that I will not be there to see Jack Johnson

I saw Jack Johnson in Chicago a couple years ago because he was touring with G-Love, and it pains me to say this, but it was probably the worst live music experience I've ever had. I feel that musicians need to offer something above and beyond what you can get from listening to their album in your car or on your ipod or whatever, and seeing JJ live was basically a less good facsimile of what you hear on the album. I really hope that he was just having an off night or something, and really I hope he just gets lots of rad people on stage with him at Roo and does it up family-band style.

I am with ya on that...I think that if he does close out the fest that bb and ben and maybe even phil and the gang....he is not going to just be him and his guitar (which by the way i wouldn't mind) The guys at superfly know that after ROOmurs of a Zep reunion in the middle of the Tessessee sun, they are gonna have to coe with something SPECTACULAR! ;D
But I am stoked anyway cause I love me some JJ and I loved him at the roo 3 years ago on the sat afternoon tip I think...remember the rain and the guy in the tree....it was a great set and I missed the Black Crowes for it and wasn't sad after! And I love love love the crowes~!
Nope - financially unable - well not entirely but lack of childcare has put a serious bump in the road - I think we will be hitting up Jazzfest or memphis in may and stay home in June to enjoy Jubilee Jam on the streets of Jackson.
Oh and, of course, heading to see Les in NOLA on March 8
Personally, I think it is a good thing he is closing out the fest because with all these hard acts (metallica, mastodon, etc) I will need something to chill out to at the end. Jack Johnson is perfect, and so is his new CD. I think it is good that he has been given the chance above Phil and all that because they headline like every year lol

It'll be nice to be able to finally catch a sunday headliner. never have in the past 3 years of going to the roo. Last year, was the only time I ever heard the sunday headliner which was from our camp. the prior 2 years i left on sunday night during the headliner. plan on staying for Jack this year and until monday morning.
I like Jack Johnson...but he's a little TOO mellow. When I saw him at Bonnaroo in 2003, I liked it, but it was still a little too chill for my tastes. It was the first day of the fest, people were ready to rock...and he more or less put me to sleep, with a few exceptions. He's not bad, he's just...mellow.
That is why he should be the last person, to wind down the festival ya know.
Who knows, I just think that he would be good as a headliner, plus isn't he touring with like Dave Matthews and all that??? Maybe he will have some friends come out?
Because, if he even is headlining, I'm sure MANY others would agree that that spot is better suited for Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh, or even Plant and Krausse.
New albums pretty good, still getting my feet wet with it. The whole electric thing isnt that huge of an elemnt change but things are a bit more funky in palces.

I've been a fan for a little over 4 years, saw him open up for Ben Harper in summer of 2003 at Deer Creek, he's not headliner material because his shows lack energy, his shows seem to drag on, very mellow and relaxing causing you to want to sleep or lay down which is why he's perfect for nothing but a sunday afternoon show
I have no problem with it, as I see it as an opening of the door for bands like My Morning Jacket to headline.
Jack Johnson's first show at Roo gave him enormous exposure within our scene. Even though he was commanding radio air play with his first hit, Superfly booked him and he really won over the Roo crowd that first year.
Now look at him, he is headlining festivals. Not just roo, but multiple festivals.
I'm seeing this exact same scenario play out with My Morning Jacket. IT's taking longer, and they aren't as commercially successful yet, but I truly see JJ headlining as a way to open the door for bands that, for all intents and purposes, owe alot to Bonnaroo for their successs (at least among jamband fans).
How many times can Phil or Widespread close it out...I don't know how great it will be but give the guy a shot
this is how I feel as well. I actually like Widespread Panic ALOT more than Jack Johnson. However, I'd actually rather see Jack Johnson headline than Panic, b/c simply, after 6 Bonnaroo WSP shows, I'm sick of them headlining. I'll catch them when they come around here. Let OTHER bands get a chance to stick their neck out and capture a crowd of 80K.
It seems like a lot of the beef about Johnson headlining has to do with the fact that he never made a name for himself based on his live performance, it was all album sales. Bonnaroo headliners ought to be established LIVE acts, bands like Panic, The Dead, Trey, Tom Petty, Radiohead, Tool, DMB, White Stripes (not technically headliner, but close enough). Just look at the comments on this board, Jack Johnson is not regarded for his live performances. Seems like he needs to "pay his dues" for awhile and establish a better reputation for live shows before he gets to headline this festival.

Ben and G Lovw ould be awesome as would ALO or Matt Costa to be up there with Jack...but we dont know about those artists yet
what I can 100% guarantee you is that Donavon Frankenreiter will be up there with him, and maybe vice versa when DF is playing, Jack will be up there for a song or two...he played the ukulele on Donavon's hit song "Free"
Alot of you are saying that you don't want him closing out the festival, but aren't there always artists after the headliners? Are there no late night acts on Sunday?
so I'm not suprised to hear that people aren't too happy about him headlining.
