This is my 1st real post to the boards…..so………here are some of my thoughts on topics mentioned here that I wrestled with during a long walk today.
1) A different lineup indeed. But I’m still 100% confident that I will have music in front of me that blows me away virtually every minute of the entire weekend. I’m sure I’ll still have conflicts that will be brutal.
2) I’ve been to every roo except for the 3rd one (the rainy year – good one to miss). This will be the 1st year I do VIP – I’m psyched to be able to hang in the site and rest up for the long evenings, all while listening to the headliners (none of which I’m truly excited about, but all of whom I’m curious to check out some of). To me, this lineup makes VIP even more of a premium
3) Keep in mind that we’ve not even seen ANY jazz artists posted. If they’re doing the tent again, then there’s likely a whole lot more good jazz coming.
4) The more eclectic the lineup, the better. I’d NEVER see Kanye or Mastadon on my own initiative, but will expose myself to that music at roo
5) here’s my short list of those I’m most psyched to see – and these are only folks I love now. I’m sure looking into artists I’ve never heard of before will add a few more must see’s to this list…to see even just these folks is worth way more than we have to pay for the privilidge. Oh and a few calls for late night shows for those of you who can't imagine who'll play late night: Phil and friends, My morning jacket, levon helm, derek and susan....
The Allman Brothers Band
The Bluegrass Allstars featuring Luke Bulla, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer (this set will be sick!)
Solomon Burke / Dark Star Orchestra / Drive-By Truckers
Levon Helm & The Ramble on the Road
Gogol Bordello / Mason Jennings / Jack Johnson / B.B. King
The Lee Boys / Phil Lesh & Friends (2 shows!!) / Little Feat
Metallica / My Morning Jacket / Willie Nelson / Ozomatli
Pearl Jam / Robert Plant & Alison Krauss / Robert Randolph’s Revival
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
