1. A lot of people here are anti-Metallica and Iron Maiden (just for example) because they will bring violence and darkness to the farm. 2. A lot of people here are pro-GWAR, and yet they bring violence and darkness to their shows.
I guess it's because with GWAR, it's all part of the act? Isn't it perhaps the same with Metallica and Iron Maiden?

I can't imagine anything funnier than violence at an Iron Maiden show. Honestly, that'd be like worrying about a mosh pit at an Eagles show! This isn't Slayer we're talking about! I've seen Maiden a bunch of times and it's completely family-friendly. People bring their kids to see 'em. It's a good, entertaining rock show. You all sound like my 70 year old mother worrying about this stuff!
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
1. I retract any negative statement I made about Maiden...I don't like em, but one of the guys I'm going with absolutely LOVES em...and why shouldn't he be happy...I'll just go see something else.
2. Someone said AC/DC...now THAT would get me off. I saw them once like 15 years ago, and they just absolutely killed. I'd love to see them again...it seems like two or three years in a row there's been an album/tour rumor...then nothing....anyone know what's up with that?
Yeah, really, who are you people? Iron Maiden?!? STP?!? I get the feeling some of you would be totally psyched if Roo turned into nothing but sh!tty '80s metal bands and lame, reunited '90s alternative rockers. Bring on Winger and the Spin Doctors!!

Whoa...slow down there champ...don't mess with the Spin Doctors!

you just compared Iron Maiden to Winger and Stone Temple Pilots with the Spin Doctors.
If you don't see the errors in this, then there's probably no hope for you.

opinions and assho!es, blah blah blah... if you don't like metal, DON'T GO TO THE FREAKING SHOW... go listen to other bands play the same song for two hours and let us rock out
^ Please don't assume I'm a jamband fan (go listen to other bands play the same song for two hours...) because I'm most definitely not. I'd take a GOOD metal band (like Mastodon) over the noodling wankery of any jamband. I guess I offended someone, since I got ye olde smitage. Whatever. Iron Maiden and STP suck!
PS - Chandler, I figured it was you who smited me so I hit you up with some K+. I'm a lover not a smiter...even when we disagree

Iron Maiden are an amazing live band from the footage I've seen. They wouldn't bring violence to the farm. Most of what they do is in jest. Many of their songs are based on literary works, such as Dune, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Phantom of the Opera. Really tight live band as well. Not even as heavy as Tool or Metallica. I think they would be a great headliner.

i LOVE Iron Maiden! i saw them LIVE back in 1986. but i don't think they will play at Roo.... because, as big as Roo is, it isn't big enough for BOTH Metallica and Iron Maiden. won't happen.
If there there or not it dosn't matter,US dates will be released soon for them.Anyways, would be perfect if they did Nashville or Chatanooga or anywhere close to Roo' day before or after so I can catch 'em inroute.Just not durring......
Yes. THey would be fantastic. They are incredibly talented. They write in classical scales and have 3 lead/rhythm guitarists which is incredible when they all solo.
Can we please resist the urge to turn Bonnaroo into a total sausagefest? I for one enjoy dancing with pretty ladies more than headbanging with metalheads...
Not that there's anything wrong with Maiden, but...

I was trying to make that same point, blackmocco. I guess it was lost.

Yeah well, selective viewing on these boards. Kinda sad to see such ignorance amongst clearly intelligent people. GWAR fit the bill because they're being 'ironic'. That is, they perform the music while looking down upon it at the same time whereas Maiden and Metallica play it straight-faced and I guess that's just too embarrassing for people who regard themselves as too cool for school. I've been to GWAR live and it's a great fun time, no question but I'd never see the point of owning any of their albums. They've made a career out of a joke. I guess as sad as it'll sound to most on this forum, Metallica and Maiden actually mean something to me. As for the 'sausagefest' comment? Yeah, spoken by someone who's clearly never been to a decent metal show in his life. I've really been looking forward to attending the show and mingling with all sorts of people while taking in some new music yet I'm pretty sure once people see how I look I'll be judged on that alone. How insulting and pathetic. Tolerance indeed.

First off, grow a sense of humor.
Second, not liking a genre music doesn't make you ignorant. It makes you discerning of your own taste, self-aware and the what not. It's okay to love music and NOT like metal. Just like it's okay to like food and not like cilantro.
As for not having been to metal shows, I'm not hanging out at Metallica or Maiden shows, but I've been to a few (Isis being the most prominent). Not a lot of girls. Not a lot of dancing. Not a lot of hooking up going on. My friends who are metalheads, generally don't go to shows to pick up chicks (that's more something my punk friends do). They go cause they like the music.
But overall, I'm not sure what you're reading that your finding offensive. We're not shitting on your music. We're just saying Maiden probably doesn't belong on Bonnaroo.
You can go sulk in the corner with the prog rock fans who don't get Yes or King Crimson either, or the electro fans who don't get Chemical Brothers or Underworld...

It's true. Not liking a genre doesn't make you ignorant. Making stupid assumptions about something you know nothing about does.
