Yeah, this station is great! Though I haven't figured out why Christian rock band Third Day came on...
Uh...hmmm...yeah, that's definitely weird. I just went to double-check the station settings...there's a slider that controls how much the station plays artists that aren't on the list, and I definitely have it set to off. But it does say "If you set this slider to "Off", the radio station plays only the artists you selected, to the best of the station's ability." I guess they're not guaranteeing it, but with so many artists on the list I don't know why it would be playing anything else. Weird.
i have a pretty good system for deciding how much music to expose myself to beforehand:
i like to wait until the schedule comes out and then, if an act is playing before 5pm and i haven't heard anything from them i don't worry about listening. if an act is playing after 5pm and i haven't heard anything from them, then i will familiarize myself with their material.
this allows me to explore and find new music during the day which is usually when i'm wandering around anyway, and still make sure that i don't miss any of the bigger draws later at night.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
I warn you to not prepare on too many artists. I tend to do that then I am all the more disappointed when they conflict with each other and I can't see everything I found that I like.

^^^Agree!
Usually wait for the schedule to come out. After we decide on the must see acts then we "audition" for the remaining slots by a combination of means - check out CDs, youtube, websites, reviews, word-of-mouth and now thanks to plasticpepper a cool radio show - thanks & karma!
Got any suggestions on music theroy books for me to pick up. I just went out and bought a guitar and could play a few things but I find now I'm relearning and removing a fe mistakes I was making
Though you weren't asking me, I'll answerr anyway. I recommend Basics of Music: Opus 1 by Zinn and Hogenson. We used it in my intro music theory classic in college and it's very good. You have to go through it slowly, but it's easy to understand with lots of worksheets.

I understand what you're saying but at roo there are always going to be conflicts and I would much rather stumble upon a I band that I fall in love with than never know about them because they conflict with another band I like....I understand you don't want to be disappointed though, who does?! haha
