I think it would be very fair to say that Jack White is one of the best guitarist of the decade. He is also a good song writer and what not, but his guitar skills put him near the top.
Thom Yorke and Jim James also have to be included in this 'musician of the decade' category. Both have amazing voices and incredible song writing capabilities.
I dont think jack white or jim james can even come close to Thom Yorke who I think will prob be my final choice gotta consider Tommy Guerrero also tho. but i don't think any one musician has really stood out in the past 10 years its been more of a steady trickle of amazing music from new and old bands, also I dont feel like in any of those bands one person sticks out, its the combined forces of the band that make the music influential, especially in the past few years I feel like there havent been many "front men" its more just all about the music which is fine by me.
now that I think about it tho I choose Kid Rock
edit: haha my morning has been offically awesome'd my karma went from 21 to 7 after my first post on this thread
after going on a Frank Black and the Catholic kick this afternoon, I am changing my vote to Frank Black. As much as The Pixies are my favourite of his bands, the work he did with the Catholics is by far his best, musically. I would also go so far as to say Frank Black and the Catholics put out the best music of the past 10 years. And lets not forget the fact that the man has put out 10 albums (with #11 on the way) since 2000. So yeah, Frank Black for musician of the decade.
yeah i'd say he is. He has had very succesful album sales (which is hard to accomplish this day...internet is killing the rock star..whoever said that earlier) both of his bands are huge. and yes there are a lot of people you can argue here...but jack white's career has been entirely in this decade. radiohead's success started in the 90s so i put them in another category.
the band of the decade? hmm i'd say its a tie between radiohead and the flaming lips. both bands constantly change their sound and both put on a unique hell of a show.
flaming lips....inspirational music that is really easy to smile to. their show is without a doubt the craziest, zaniest, most colorful show i've ever experienced. their success doesn't touch radiohead's though. hopefull the FLips next album will be amazing, and more people will be like OH MY GAWD THE FLAMING LIPS!!!! they get my personal vote for band of my GENERATION

If OK Computer had been this decade, I would have voted Thom Yorke as well. Really there wouldn't even be a valid arguement otherwise. He is the right choice if we're going by popularity and influence.
Looking back at the 90's vs. now is really amazing. Such a HUGE difference. I can't wait to see what the next decade brings.

Becca you had me seriously worried for a minute there.
And I will echo previous sentiments. Jack White is the musician of the decade; but if all of Radiohead's stuff had been in this millennium, I would have to think Thom Yorke just as good a candidate.

With albums like Kid A (2000), Amnesiac (2001), Hail to the Thief (2003), and In Rainbows (2008). I still say he is a great canidate. And if were talking about commercial and financial success, you definitly have to, atleast, mention Kanye West and Kenny Chesney (ewww!!). Along with Jack White and Warren Haynes.

I think we can up it here, and proclaim Jack Johnson Best Musician Ever. Dylan, Beatles, Hendrix, Zeppeling...all quite talented, but it wasn't till old JJ came along that we learned what rock'n'roll could really be.

With all the votes for thom yorke, I can't believe no one has suggested jonny greenwood...
...but I really can't argue with jack white...speaking of which, anyone hear him doing "loving cup" with the stones on that shine a light soundtrack? nothing too terribly exciting, but an interesting footnote to his resume none the less.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
