Pitchfork: My favorite song on the record is probably "House of Cards", largely because it sounds like the closest Radiohead have ever come to making an Al Green song-- it seems so easy and effortless.
CG: It's funny you say that because we had different versions of it. There was one where Jonny had this bass riff that made it sound more R.E.M.-y. But then Phil [Selway] and Thom [Yorke] reworked it and came up with this amazing rhythm. But then we had to wait a year to record it, which was difficult. I've been looking at footage from Bonnaroo in 2006 when we were playing that song in front of 80,000 people and it just sounds great. All the kids were throwing their glowsticks in the air. People were obviously out of their minds at midnight in Tennessee. To be able to be like that is hard-- to have that soulfulness, you know? But that's what everyone should aspire to in a way. That immediacy. But it's really fucking difficult.
so he's been looking at footage from bonnaroo?
hmmmm, obviously we know two things
a.) they recorded the show on video b.) Thom mentioned during an interview that they intended to release the performance on DVD
so why else would they be looking at the footage...two years later
I think they are working on it right now
a proper release would be awesome, but in the meantime the fanmade boot that's out there is top notch, I would recommend checking that out while we wait for the official release, whenever that might be
I also read that quote, and said to my wife the same thing. Why on earth would he be looking at the footage, unless they were watching it b/c they are planning a release?

exactly!
It's fairly obvious that most bands tape each of their shows, of all times right before their big tour, why else would they be watching the footage?
and I'm glad he remembers the glowstick war during house of cards...that was something else...I always joke with my friends that you've been accepted at Bonnaroo when the glowsticks come out
