Ahh sorry, anyway who cares if the board decided to sponsor the guy. I know roofan, and teine pretty well, and have heard the story first hand a couple of times. He sounds like he was a pretty good guy.
In 07 when it came to why I wanted to help Kramer, it was for one reason, because I wanted to. It was my money and I can spend it how I feel. If someone didn't agree with that, D-G-A-S!
If Kramer came back I'd do it again. He brought the board together like nothing else ever has. It's only money, you can't take it with you.

I think it's awesome what you did for Kramer, regardless of the circumstances. It was a beautiful random act of kindness and you deserve to be commended for that.
I remember this whole hippiekramer thing. I came in on the tail end. As I remember kramer posted on this board in 2007 that he had lost his dog on the farm and needed a ticket to get in Bonnaroo so a very generous Inforooster bought him a ticket.
He came back on these boards a month before the 2008 Bonnaroo with the same story that he had lost his dog and needed to get back to the farm. You know, expecting someone to buy him a ticket again.
Everyone smited him for apparently taking advantage of everyone's generosity. Then he disappeared.
This is so not true it aint even funny.
First of all, it was 06 when he first showed up, then again in 07.
Second, it NEVER had anything to do with his dog or him losing it. In 06, his dog stayed at my house the entire festival and in 07, Anna had the dog.
I totally have a best friend that lost his job, a pipe broke in his ceiling and flooded his place while he was out of state completely destroying most of his stuff, and his car was stolen less than a month after never to be found. He obviously had to bow out due to money. If anyone wants to buy him a ticket he will gladly accept it.

And this is just so awesome - if it was not for the kindness of Inforoo - Boz and I would not have been there last year. We had no plans to go due to lack of money - but - because of Ticktrix (who made it known that we were not giong) lots of people donated and we ended up with tickets.
Just remember - you get back what you give out in life. It comes around full circle most of the time.
why should anyone help someone who can't even bother to help themselves?
Because (a) we can and (b) we don't always know the circumstances behind why they're unable to help themselves; it may appear they aren't trying, but who really knows?

It doesn't sound like this guy got a crappy deal out of life. It sounds like he made his choices, and they were to be a mooching bum.
Uh, don't you people realize when you give people like them hand out's you are being taken advantage of. Tell them to get a job, make money to live like the rest of us.
You guys should really, really read the whole thread before you start in with this stuff. It just makes you look ignorant repeating the same simple-minded crap someone said YEARS ago. And what you are saying doesn't even apply to the situation, if you had read it in the first place you would know this. He wasn't (originally) a mooching bum, he was a dude traveling the country with his pal who INTENDED to work for his first Roo ticket, and got screwed by many various circumstances. Harassed by cops, kicked off his camping ground, pushed around by the man in charge of setting up Bonnaroo, NEVER asking anyone for help, he nonetheless received the kindhearted charity of the people of Inforoo and was grateful. He never once begged anyone that went to meet him or help him FOR the help. Now unfortunately it appears that he turned into somewhat of a begging mooch in the following years, but the focus of the story is really about that first year and besides, no one is going to help him now precisely because he broke the rules and became a mooch instead of giving back. When you post stupid shi.t like the lines quoted above, it really shows you were too lazy to read the thread and just decided to assert yourselves where you really weren't needed. Next time, try to be more considerate eh? At least make valid negative opinions if you are going to make them at all.

If I want to go outside and "make it rain" isnt it my choice to do what I want with my hard earned money. Know the story before you contribute opinion to it.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ so I remember this story from a few years ago and read most of it but have no real interest in going back through these pages...when was it that he turned into a mooch?
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ so I remember this story from a few years ago and read most of it but have no real interest in going back through these pages...when was it that he turned into a mooch?
He came back twice again basically asking for a ticket again, and then again the next year....
My thing with this whole situation is, if you're really trying to help the guy, someone without a place to call their own and without food, wouldn't you spend 250$ to help clean them up, get them some sort of education, help them get a job... a bonnaroo ticket just doesn't make sense to me when he seemed to have way bigger problems then that... i guess that's just me, but that's my two cents...

he came the first time - wait - he did not even come to us the first year - we found him - then he came back a second time asking for help - BigLou helped him - end of story
So - the first time he did not even ask and the second time - ONE individual took care of it because he wanted to.
At any rate - what the mosre recent posts have been about is this....
go read the whole thread before you pass judgment and decide to make snide comments about Kramer. If you don't read the thread - then you don't know the story - and it sounds really stupid to those of us that do know the story when you blather on about how the $250 should have gone to cleaning him up and finding him a job and such
You are missing the point here, autumnsredtears. He didn't want a permanent job, he was traveling across the country. He was surviving in one way or another, doing small jobs, without begging. He had a fair little setup with grill, torches, tent, water, etc. He wasn't huddled up against a wall in the middle of a city wrapped in boxes and dirty blankets. He wasn't looking for a place to settle down, he was looking to get into Bonnaroo by working for them setting up, but the whole social security card mess (and the dude in charge at the time) prevented that from happening.
So no, he probably would have been pretty bummed if you showed up with $250 worth of schoolbooks and survival gear when his ultimate goal was getting into Bonnaroo and then moving on across the country.
OK, this is the last time and I am going to try and explain and I'll try to make this as short as possible.
Kramer showed up in Manchester about a month before roo in 2006. Some of the local folks took care of them while they were here. Joel and I thought it would be a cool story to share with the board. He and Anthony were traveling together, and working along the way (They had both just gotten back from Coachella, working it). Kramer lost his wallet (with ID and ssn card) along the journey. When they got to Manchester they had every intention of working and them moving along their way. Anthony got work, Kramer didn’t. He made every attempt to straighten things out and get his ssn card including WALKING to the ssn office (15 miles one way).
When it became apparent that Kramer was not going to get in, inforoo members took a collection and bought him a ticket (Which we did not pay full price for) to get in.
We all enjoyed the Kramer incident and had fun with it. He came back the next year and things went sour. He DID take advantage of Manchester/Inforoo’s kindness and tried to pull it off again the following year. A couple of the member, and one in particular, offered to pay for his ticket in full and even went so far as to send the money for the ticket, but Kramer was not to be found again. He DID NOT show up the third year (08) that I am aware of.
He was not a bum looking for a hand out, they were two kids traveling the country, hitting festivals and working for their way, he just hit a snag in Manchester with the working thing. The negative nancy’s on here sure know how to twist a story to make their dissent even more appealing, but a lot of what people are saying one here is not true. And lot of it is coming from people that were not even members at the time.
I've read through the thread and if what you (and most others) have said is the truth.......then I'll agree for the most part. He originally showed up and didn't ask for someone to just hand over a ticket. He had a plan, asked for work, was unlucky, and even hit some rough patches with the law/administration.
But if what you say is true that he came back twice looking for a ticket - then isn't that asking for a hand out? Like the first year was fine....people wanted to be generous.......but after that he tried taking advantage of people's kindness. I just don't see how some can talk about him like he was a saint. Granted he had an awesome story and people wanted to feel good......but at the end of the day he saw an opportunity (after the first year) and attempted to capitalize on people's generosity.
I understand he hit problems the first year.....but did he have an excuse why he couldn't get/didn't have a ticket the next two years? I'm curious to know from the people who have been here for a few years (I joined inforoo a few years ago but didn't know about this whole Kramer story)
If anything I posted was factually incorrect just let me know. I hope everything was right lol.

This thread is great not only for the story of Kramer, but also to see how posters have either changed since they began here (Beau) or haven't changed.
I don't understand why this is still unclear, itrainsmonkeys. My problem with the things you and others are saying is that you refuse to differentiate between the first time and afterwards (until your last post, at least) and most of the negative statements have no bearing on the reality of the situation as it was in 2006. The Debbie Downers make these grand over-arching statements of "Get a job you worthless bum!" and "I have to pay for my ticket so he should as well!" without any real consideration of the problem at hand.
No one is saying that he didn't fall from grace to some extent when he returned and attempted to take advantage of the goodwill he received when he was actually in a bad spot. I don't think anyone really disagrees with you on that point. I don't think he was a saint by any means, but originally he was just a good guy down on his luck that the Inforoo community got behind and made an awesome situation out of a bad one. It was a neat story, that's all. It makes some of us feel good, and it's awesome how roofan and teine were so generous and really started a movement to help some random dude out. The events afterwards are a real shame, but as I said earlier, that doesn't lessen the coolness of the original events. That's all.

I've never posted in this thread before. My only post included my differentiating between the first time and after that.
Please don't claim to have a problem with me over something I never did or said. What did I say that was unclear?

Most of those comments were from people who didn't read the thread. I read it and posted my thoughts. I never said "Get a job you worthless bum" or claimed to make an overarching statement. I even claimed that the first year is fine - people were generous and he didn't ask for a handout. I pointed out a lot of positive. My issue was with him taking advantage of people's kindness (which I stated he didn't do until after the first year).
Why such a rant against my post when all I did was give my thoughts on the subject and ask a question for further clarification? Was my original post really that heinous? I even agreed for the most part that what he did was fine. Great story of a guy down on his luck that got people together for a good cause. No problem with it......until he tried to use people's kindness and generosity for his own personal gain the next year.
justmeg said:
^^ he actually only came back in 2007 asking for help
My mistake on that one Meg......I misunderstood the post below from Roofan......I took those two sentences to mean "He came back the next year and things went sour - and THEN he tried to pull the same thing the following year. I'd still like to know from someone who was around/involved if he had a reason for not having a ticket the following year.

lol, who the fuck gives a fuck if this dude gave another dude a bonnaroo ticket? regardless of anything else, why do you care if you didnt fork over the money? someone getting into roo and not paying a dime out of pocket doesnt make my experience worth any less than what i paid.
