Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
How safe is inhaling nitrous? This weekend some friends were talking about getting whip-cream cartridges and then using balloons to inhale the nitrous. I am curious about trying it, but don't want any thing bad to happen (especially since Bonnaroo is so close). What do y'all think the odds are of anything going wrong? Have any of you tried it and felt a loss of oxygen or something along those lines? Right now I am a bit weary of whether or not to try it.
My personal experience has mostly invloved people who've inhaled too much and then passed out or kept the nitrous too cold and have gotten frost bite. Either way I reccomend against it.
I should of been a math teacher. Wait a minute I suck at math.
Either way it's not good and the high isn't that long a few seconds at most I think. Stick with beer I heard from a little Beligum man that beer is better than water.
hmmm, never tried it myself.....i have a friend who claims "i would spend my entire pay check on this stuff if i could".....but i dunno about the rush/high personally......here is what the leading pharmacotherapy database says about nitrous oxide:
fyi....(=...) is to define some the medical terms encountered for those of you that dont know them
Lexi-Drugs- warnings/precautions=Should not be given to patients after a full meal; Nausea and vomitting occurs postoperatively in 15% of patients. Prolonged use may produce bone marrow suppression (=immune dysfunction and/or blood cell production dysfuncion) and/or neurologic dysfunction. May be addictive. (.....you think ) Headache, dizziness, confusion, respiratory apnea (=stop breathing breifly) Stabilizes axonal membranes to partially inhibit action potentials (=slows down nerve impulse conduction...like lidocaine) leading to sedation; may partially act on opiate receptor systems to cause mild analgesia; it does not depress the CO2 drive to breathe (=won't suffocate as with opiate/morphine/heroin OD); Increases cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure while decreasing renal and hepatic blood flow; has analgesic action similar to morphine.
not a lot of data, im sad to report.....that is most of what was listed......not enough data on pregnancy/fertility issues to comment about......the only thing i can add is that NO2 is a naturally occuring vasodilator (=relax blood vessels) in our body (in small amounts)..... this could theorhetically decrease blood pressure, causing an increase in heart rate (to compensate O2 supply due to lower BP)......which could lead to heart problems such as angina (heart pain due to lack of coronary artery perfusion (=supply O2 to tissue) since the heart muscle gets its blood when the heart is relaxed)......
haven't checked out hobbes site yet.....i will though and report back
short answer.....i wouldn't do it.....the potential for brain damage and random unconsciousness is enough to keep me away from it....
This guy, who may or may not be me, may or may not have reallllyyyy enjoyed some time with, what may or may not have been, nitrous oxide last year. That same guy, may or may not have, ended up regretful, regardless of how much he enjoyed it. It may or may not be reallllyyyy bad news.

Yes, i suppose its fun, possibly trying it, but then u think the only real reason u get high from it is because its killing a massive amount of braincells.....not quite so fun anymore.

that is awesome.....we may have or may have not just learned something.... ???
Hey Phish- I don't want to sound like your Mother-- (gosh I think I am almost old enough to be if your bio is accurate...YIKES!) but just wanted to share some words of advice. It is so easy to cave in to peer pressure and much harder to stand on your own feet and make your own decisions. I think it is AWESOME you get to come experience the Bonnaroo Culture at your age. You will have an amazing time.
There is so much great music to hear and you will meet a ton of new friends. Hopefully that will be the memory you want to hang on. Just use your head to make the most of your experience.
I saw a kid OD last year at 'Roo and it was the scariest thing I have seen in my 37 years and I am sure he certainly did not anticipate that experience from B'roo. Be wise, be safe and create some amazing memories to share with your friends when you get back home!
I tried it once like 7 years ago, and I have done alot of different kind of drugs since then, and I would not do it. It is not worth the price of the brain damage. The "high" last just a few seconds and it wasn't worth it. I agree with everyone else stick to beer and enjoy yourself.

over 80 people were caught with nitrous at Bonnaroo last year and evicted from the event. some didn't need to get evicted, they left with the medical personell, high heat, exhaustion, dehydration combined with nitrous oxide resulted in some falls on bleachers etc. It's a shame to got that far and then miss the event. Yea, i just went to hookahville and hippy crack would be the appropriate term, which i used coincidentally. Might i just say those were the angriest dealers and customers i saw throughout the whole thing. And not worth it.
My brother used the term "hippie crack" to describe the Nitrous last year to me.
ive heard that term too.....didn't realize that was the reference.....too funny.....however, i think i saw mostly prepy looking folks suckin' balloons last year.....
I've been hearing it called hippie crack since I was in college and have always thought it to be accurate. After scrapping my fourth or fifth person off a floor from passing out I really developed a dislike for the stuff.
Hippie crack would be right. My advice (i've done more than my fair share), is just to not do it. Especially at a festival like Bonnaroo when there's anything else you can imagine. If you get caught with it, they will kick you out. If someone is selling it, they didn't come to roo for the music... just to get your money and f*ck you over.
You can and may leave with the very nice medical staff. Watch yourself, be safe, make good choices.
All th inpurities that would be possible could make a great weekend a weekend that you would forget. Why run the risk of erasing memories of Roo, is that not the reason for it in the first place? Good people, good fun. Not saying you should not enhance the experience, but should the enhancement take priority over enjoyment?
"Chicago is known as the Windy City, and Montana is called the Big Sky State, so I think that we should somehow combine the two to create the ultimate kite-flying experience. "-Mitch Hedberg

when nitrous was first discovered it was used for entertainment at carnivals then dentists discovered its use as a painkiller and still use it today to sedate paitients it does not cause braindamage and the effects are from the nitrous not the lack of oxygen although just like anything it can be dangerous if abused
