Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
However, any crazies who wanna gamble with such a thing can come out to the Metro in Chicago next Thursday, March 30. We'll be holding a drawing that night for free festival tickets while Pitchfork faves Art Brut rock the place to its knees. Who knows, they might even have an announcement of their own...
I've read about these guys being the hit of SXSW and have kind of thought about trying to get to this show next week, but I assume it will sell out with all the buzz. I think that line above hints pretty strongly that they'll be added, no?
I also noticed today that The National will be at the Double Door tonight for $12. Thinking about heading down there.
I'd like to hear what you think about The National live. I think they're a great live act. The only problem I had was the vox balance was difficult for them to get right due to the lead singer's deep baritone.
You inspired me to try to take one more shot at getting somebody to go with me (its right down the street) and then I checked the site and found it sold out. Figures.
I just listened to the Alligator twice straight through (downloaded sooo cheap from emusic). At first I was like "Sounds nice enough, but not a big deal", then came "that drummer is pretty solid" and "the lyrics are good", and by the time Mr. November was on, I was entranced. Started it up again, and just got completely pulled in and wrapped up in it.
Alligator is the only thing on emusic, but I'll probably pick up some more of this soon. Pitchfork keeps getting better and better.
Art Brut are busy ravaging the Midwest right now on their current North American tour, which will take them to Coachella at the end of April. It will also take them to the Metro here in Chicago on Thursday night, where the band just might make a very special announcement, perhaps regarding a certain summer music festival that a certain website's staff members will be holding a raffle to win tickets for that night. If you catch my drift...
If it wasn't clear enough in their Friday announcement, I would say this confirms Art Brut at Pitchfork. Their Thursday Chicago show still isn't sold out, I should really get of my butt and grab some tickets or I will miss the boat as I did with the National this weekend. The Tyrades, who are announced for Intonation, are opening.
From near and far, they're flocking to the Pitchfork Music Festival, taking place July 29 and 30 in Chicago's Union Park. We're pleased to announce that British bands the Futureheads and Art Brut will make the Trans-Atlantic flight to play our summer shindig, while local Chicago favorites Chin Up Chin Up will simply hop the L to get their rock on.
(Yeah, that Art Brut announcement was reaaal surprising, wasn't it?)
Here's the updated lineup:
July 29:
• Silver Jews • The Futureheads • Ted Leo/Pharmacists • Art Brut • Destroyer • Mountain Goats • Band of Horses • Man Man • Hot Machines
July 30:
• Spoon • Yo La Tengo • Devendra Banhart Band • Mission of Burma • Aesop Rock • The National • Jens Lekman • Tapes 'n Tapes • Chin Up Chin Up
Of course, much, much more will be added in the coming weeks, including the lineup for a third stage featuring a diverse range of hip-hop, experimental, electronic, jazz, and dance acts. Stay tuned to Pitchfork for updates.
I think the division by day is new. I just got my ticket in the mail and chopped two days off of my trip to Italy to accomodate this on the calender, so I'm psyched.
School me on these new adds now (I've been reading about Art Brut, don't know the others).
EDIT: fancy new website too, with soundclips. Saturday is stacked with YLT, Devandra, Aesop Rock and Tapes n Tapes

I heard the futureheads album once. It was OK. I don't really remebmer most of it and didn't rip it or copy it so I guess I wasnt too impressed by it. Not a bad band by any means though. I have never heard of Chin up Chin up.
Art Brut's funny, if you leave in cleveland they will be at the Beachland tonight with the Pony's and Gil Mantra's Party Dream.
I'm not sure if listening to Art Brut beforehand's such a great idea. The album tends to draw the ire of people because it's just okay but nothing special. But then people see them live and seem to do a 180 on them. So I don't know. Not a huge fan of their album, but then, I can't say I'm a big Futureheads fan either.
Mr. Lif's a nice addition. They need more hip/hop. Wish I lived in Chicago so I could catch this, Intonation and the Manu Chao set at lollapalooza...

I hope the Ponys get added. I doubt it since Hot Machine is the lead singers other band but I love me the ponies. Any Chicago folks caught any of there shows?
Here's a little snippet in a Jim DeRegotis article that I haven't seen anywhere else:
Chicago-based BIZ 3 Publicity is sponsoring a secondary stage featuring DJs and electronic and experimental artists such as Diplo, Bonde Do Role, Ada, Matmos, Dominic Eulberg, Tyondai Braxton, Ghislain Poirier, 8 Bold Souls and Tarantula A.D.
Danielson and The Walkmen just added. The Pitchfork review didn't quite motivate me on its own but I'm downloading the Danielson now. Any recommendations on which Walkmen album to pick up or what to expect from them?
This lineup is just mind-bogglingly sick at this point. I've been listening to just about everything on the "main stage" lineup, and I really love a lot of it. Destroyer isn't really for me, but other than that I am falling in love with a lot of this music. Yo La Tango, Aesop Rock and (via Bonnaroo) Devandra Banhart were already favorites of mine and the Silver Jews shot to the top of my list the second I heard them. Since then, I've been listening to plenty of Man Man (I unfortunately won't catch their Wednesday Chicago date because I have Sox tickets), Band of Horses, Tapes n Tapes and I love it all. The new Mission of Burma is excellent as well.
Although its a totally different vibe and scene certainly doesn't compare, I'm pretty much as excited for this as I am for Bonnaroo on a purely musical level.

ka mai,
I'm with you man. Although I totally love Destroyer and am going to be psyched out of my mind to see that show. There's just too much great music to miss.
With the Walkmen, I'd go with Bows+Arrows. I mean, the other two albums are good, but that one's great.
Two other acts you might want to check out if you can: Art Brut and Jens Lekman. Both fall into the clever musically and lyrically acts category. Art Brut's cd is only so-so, but I've heard great things about their live show. And Jens Lekman is just pure pop genius.
And definitely hit up that Silver Jews set. They never, ever tour, so that's gonna be a rare live appearance with who knows who dropping in on the set (Will Oldham and Stephen Malkmus were among the many that appeared on the album.)

I need help from people who live in the city, where can I stay in Chicago for kinda cheap. It's cool if we need to drive out like 30 mins. The hotels right downtown are full and pricy. Any campgrounds???? Anyone want to meet up and let me and 4 others stay at there house? HELP!! THANKS!!!

I endorse all of these statements.
I might try to get into the city for this if I can find a way to pull it off. The lineup has just gotten too good for me to not make an effort to get in town for this. It figures that the summer I leave Chicago, they officially blow their load when it comes to music festivals and live events.
I actually just picked up a two day pass (after your post) so as far as I can tell they are still available. I got my own months ago and am trying to talk wife and friends into committing, so your post made me kind of nervous.
Anyways, I have a second two day pass now and know I won't have any trouble finding someone who wants to use it.

Right from pitchforks news section. Friday of Roo so you may have missed it. I didnt ready well enough. They sold out then put up a very limited amount. Better get um fast.
"Remember how we've been telling you for weeks and weeks that our two-day passes for the Pitchfork Music Festival, taking place July 29 and 30 at Chicago's Union Park, were limited and going fast? Well, we weren't lying, because we SOLD OUT of 'em!
There's a dwindling amount of single day tickets for Saturday and Sunday left, but since we sold out of two-day passes so quickly, we're putting another EXTREMELY LIMITED amount of them on sale now. Better grab 'em fast, because a lineup this amazing doesn't come around every day...or even every decade. "
hmm. I've already known about the Mr. Lif and Cage for a while, but I'll have to check out the Liars.
If anyone uses emusic (or doesn't), there's a free 24 track Pitchfork mix available (this is what tipped me off to Cage's presence). I dl'ed it and haven't listened yet, but the tracklist looks good.
The only thing better than Aesop Rock is Aesop Rock with Lif as his "backup" MC.
My weekend at Intonation just made me more excited for this than I already was. I am way more excited by this lineup than I was for Intonation, and I really enjoyed the setup and layout at the park.
I would imagine that they will use a similar setup, with alternating acts on the two main stages, only Pitchfork will have the "Biz3" stage going simultaneously. The only timeslot conflicts I am expecting would be between the "Biz3" lineup and the main lineup, so that's nice. I know Pitchfork will be considerably more crowded (this years intonation was estimated at 10,000-12,000 per day, last years was about 15,000 per day and not sold out), but I would really recommend getting there early in the day if you are up for the long haul. It was ridiculously uncrowded early in the day at Intonation and it was just a pleasure to be able to easily walk up to the front of the stage for the first 2/3 of the day.
Most excited for: Aesop Rock
Yo La Tango
Silver Jews Man Man Tapes n Tapes Band of Horses
I've checked out about 30 of the 41 artists and I'm intrigued by pretty much all of it, especially after so many Intonation bands that didn't interest me that much on record really impressed me live.

It is sold out but it isnt sold out, be sure to read all the posts DJ Donkey. So its not really sold out, Pitchfork's weird. They announce the 2 day passes sold out, but then say they have more to sell. No that my friends is some marketing. "This show is sold out, buy your tickets now!", hehe...
I am new, and astounded at the lack of mention of The Mountain Goats, has anyone else heard these lyrical whimfellows?! Oh yeah, and Yo La Tango will probably rule my soul.

The Mountain Goats were actually the main selling point for me. IMO, The Sunset Tree was the best album last year and the few tidbits I have heard off of their upcoming album have been great as well. John Darnielle has been writing the best and most poignant lyrics of anybody I have listened to in rock or folk/Americana over the past 10 years!
Besides The Mountain Goats, I cannot wait to see Art Brut again. Of the hundreds of live acts I have seen, these guys (and girl) put on one of the most fun and most entertaining acts I have ever seen (Coachella 2006) and I have been looking forward to seeing them live again to see if they can duplicate the experience.
So when are we going to get the Pitchfork schedule?
I'm ready.
I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't get anything more than we have already until the week of or so. Anyway, I'm expecting it to generally be in the order that they are billed, begining around noon or 1:00 and ending up around 10:00. As I posted above, I fully expect them to use the same alternating two stage setup as Intonation, with no overlap between the eleven artists they have listed for the "main" stages each day, and the Biz3 lineup going on simultaneously.
